GhoulishFan · 29/10/2009 22:56

Not all teachers are like that, Bewitch.... thank fuck

It's amazing that the "whites" are so closed-minded.... ignorant, even

TheMummyonElkStreet · 29/10/2009 22:58

jane elliot's eyes are blue....so how can the blue eyed people listen to her lead an exercise that blue eyes are bad? does that make any sense? have i missed something?
(i think my brain is on thinking overload!)

JesusChristOtterStar · 29/10/2009 22:58

maybe her blood is blue

TheMummyonElkStreet · 29/10/2009 22:59

mumblecrumble · 29/10/2009 23:00

Hmmm. I don;t think any of you above have got this.

Have you read anything about =the milhram experiment?

mumblecrumble · 29/10/2009 23:00

milgram sorry

JesusChristOtterStar · 29/10/2009 23:01

errrr YES why?

mumblecrumble · 29/10/2009 23:02

The point is not a discussion on racism. It is that anybody can be conditioned to be racist.

Currently the brown eyed people are behaving badly to the others due to being told to be. That was what was supposed to happen but it didn;t becuase whiter people in this country are very desperate not be be racist.

mumblecrumble · 29/10/2009 23:03

As in the milgram when suposedly peace full pacifists were conditioned to inflict violence on other people.

TheMummyonElkStreet · 29/10/2009 23:04

er well NOW i have but i wasn't aware there was reading associated with the programme?

ginnny · 29/10/2009 23:06

Thanks mumblecrumble for setting us all straight

mumblecrumble · 29/10/2009 23:07

Interesting:

"It's amazing that the "whites" are so closed-minded.... ignorant, even"

How many 'whites' - very harsh terminology, actually spoke? Are you presuming that all the other folks with paler skin thought the same? Man she really got to you didi;t she?!

mumblecrumble · 29/10/2009 23:09

sorry, my quesiton about the milgram wasn't agresive, hard to get that across typing.

It was a program that reminded me of that article thats all.

alwayslookingforanswers · 29/10/2009 23:09

I hope to god that woman never comes to work in any of my DS's schools - as I'd have a bloody good go at her - how can she say she has nothing to learn when she uses the terms half-caste? I (personally) find it hard to get riled about coloured but half-caste.

I hope for her sake (only because I'm not a violent person) that her school is on half term - as if she taught one of my boys and I heard her describe them as half caste I would be at the school in the morning having a LOT to say/

mumblecrumble · 29/10/2009 23:09

I have never seen any colour skins cut so have no idea what the colour is underneath.

WHat a thick twat tacher I am too.

TheMummyonElkStreet · 29/10/2009 23:09

i think we all got that though mumblecrumble?
I just wondered, perhaps stupidly, that the brown eyed people are being told by a blue eyed person to behave badly toward blue eyed people. just seemed an odd choice, given her own eye colour

mumblecrumble · 29/10/2009 23:11

she used the term 'half caste' [yuck, horrid term, sorry] as a quote of the chap who didn;t take his kid to school, He said HC about himself.

GhoulishFan · 29/10/2009 23:11
  • very harsh terminology..... used in the programme, hence " "

The ones that spoke were ignorant - the blonde woman with her rugby player oh-so-hard-done-by husband having to wear a suit and that long haired woman saying she KNOWS how it is to be a black person; she doesn't KNOW - she simply can't, because she isn't black...

They didn't open mindedly listen to the other speakers - the blonde woman hardly let them speak at all without talking over them; she even said at the end she went in utterly closed minded because she knows she doesn't have to change! I think the comment about the child in her class falling over proves she DOES have areas to change and challenge in her own life.

That's what I meant.

mumblecrumble · 29/10/2009 23:12

Am I right in remembering that Hitler didn;t conform to his own racial cleansing? I wondered if thats why they'd done that. Not sure. ANy body know?

alwayslookingforanswers · 29/10/2009 23:12

well it's not rocket science is it - skin colour is all based on the colour of the pigments in the skin (hence you get albinos who have no pigments and have very white skin - and hair). Under skin is flesh, flesh is pink, blood is red,

DH said "it's like she see's it like chocolate - it's dark all the way through to the bone".

BrandNewIggi · 29/10/2009 23:12

I would have liked to hear some more comments from other people in the group, rather than that stupid woman. I've seen this experiment several times, v. interesting in our "pc backlash, no racists here" UK that it went a bit tits up. I know the facilitator is a bit scary but I think she's done an excellent job for years now. She's dealing with institutional rather than personal prejudice, and I can't really understand that without experiencing it - so that's what she does.

mumblecrumble · 29/10/2009 23:13

Thats why I didn;t like the program I think goulish. I agree with you that there's no way one colour of people could identify with the other.

Thats helped me understand why it annoyed me so much

alwayslookingforanswers · 29/10/2009 23:14

no - she used the half caste to talk about the mixed race child falling over.

Black people have in some areas "reclaimed" the "n" word - doesn't mean the rest of us can use it whereever we feel like.

Mixed race bloke described himself as coloured more than using HC (although I'll conceded he did use it at least once).

GhoulishFan · 29/10/2009 23:15

having said that, my African friends did find it funny when my sister said of their son " he has a black TUMMY too!!!"

she was 4 and had never seen a black person, other than this family and only up to that point had seen their faces and hands...

I think that age 4 it is acceptable to be surprised, but that woman's age?
