First Place: Ms Greer
Second Place: Baroness
Third Place: Mr Dimbleby
Fourth Place: Jack Straw
Fifth Place: The Lib Dem man who's name I didn't catch

Ungraded: Mr Griffin, for poor grasp of history, religion, English (concept of), maths (particularly statistics), Science (especially genetics)

electra · 22/10/2009 23:44

Well......having watched him with my own eyes I am truly in disbelief that someone so bonkers has any support at all from anyone. The guy is a nut.

He is undoubtedly a thick nasty piece of work as sophable said.

Anyone else see where he tried to wriggle out of the fact that he colludes with the KKK??

LOL at Bonnie saying 'Nick, don't BS'

cherryblossoms · 22/10/2009 23:45

Aitch - yes, I'm thinking along those lines too.

theDeadPirateRoberts · 22/10/2009 23:45

Agree with wonderstuff - camera angles hurting my eyes, time to switch off all media - na night

Mamazonabroomstick · 22/10/2009 23:46

also don't think its fair that they have placed a very intelligent articulate reasonable asian lady - ie Barroness Warsi- up against griffin.

he is such a noboid that she looked fabulous and therefor the tories win a few fans despiote them doin no real work

OP posts:
Wonderstuff · 22/10/2009 23:46

God now I'm agreeing with Portillo
Definitly bedtime.

OnlyQuoteMeInTheTelegraph · 22/10/2009 23:46

Mamazon, I agree entirely. They effectively pandered to him by making the whole thing about him. I cannot think of another episode of Question Time which was devoted to one issues. We KNOW his views on race and immigration. So what does he think about the economy? The NHS? Green Issues?

Those are the things that politicians normally face on QT and he puts himself forward as a politician. He should have been shown up as someone who has only one platform.

Twit · 22/10/2009 23:47

I am torn between feeling really pleased that he is obviously an arse, and worried. You might joke that his supporters are watching Katie Price but I don't think they are.

Bumperlicioso · 22/10/2009 23:48

Goodness, it is way past my bedtime. Just had to explain biscuitgate to DH, including Justine's refutation

AitchTwoToTangOh · 22/10/2009 23:48

she did well, i thought. the whole thing made the tories look pretty solid on the issues. jack straw just takes too long to make his point.

agree with andrew neil. bummer.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 22/10/2009 23:48

Wonderstuff was just going to say the same thing!

Mamazonabroomstick · 22/10/2009 23:48

im watching too.
I think DG should appear on more of these shows. he should be made to engage in real legitimate polictical debate on real policies.

OP posts:
cherryblossoms · 22/10/2009 23:48

Wonderstuff - And I'm agreeing with Dianne. Blimey.

mrsruffallo · 22/10/2009 23:48

I agree with mamazon. No real debate on policy here, which is the part that I was looking forward to.
He was shouted down from the beginning, and that puts him in the position of censored victim yet again.

ronshar · 22/10/2009 23:48

Exactly. It was the Dick Griffin show.

Ewe · 22/10/2009 23:49

I agree Aitch, considering he is a racist arse he came across fairly well. The problem is that the other panellists were I think missing his point - especially Bonnie Greer, as fab as I think she is! - intentionally, I assume.

He was completely picked on, every question was aimed at him, no real discussion about 'issues'. It's up to the press from here as to how it is perceived to have happened to the rest of the population.

Would be interested to know viewing figures actually.

Mamazonabroomstick · 22/10/2009 23:49

Bumper - same here

SomeGuy · 22/10/2009 23:50

Mamazon? The Labour party prevaricated for ages before nominating Straw. The Tories chose Warsi.

If Labour wanted to put up an 'very intelligent articulate reasonable lady', they could have done so.

Labour chose their opponent, the Tories theirs. The Tories should be congratulated for opposing Griffin with a credible British Asian Conservative.

DuelingFANGo · 22/10/2009 23:50

When I got tickets for question time, Aitch, I don't remember if they asked me what party I supported. perhaps they did. Seeing as very few people actually support the BNP I imagine it would have been difficult for the BBC to get many BNP people there.

There are not that many undecideds who would even have the BNP on their radar as a party to possibly support. Yes there are some but not a huge amount.

Who is this disenfranchised white populeation you speak of?

I think you are only seeing what YOU want to see...

Sadly.

Ewe · 22/10/2009 23:51

I have stayed up way too late for all of this... Night ladies.

ronshar · 22/10/2009 23:51

Oh no my Micheal Portillo crush is coming back.
I had got over him when he left me the Times.

Mamazonabroomstick · 22/10/2009 23:51

Whilst i see why they have done so its a bit of a cliche though.

OP posts:
famishedass · 22/10/2009 23:52

I honestly think Nick Griffin is dangerous, and not to be taken lightly.

People can jeer and sneer at him till the cows come home but the fact is, there are thousands of disadvantaged people in this country who are not racist, but have voted BNP because the mainstream parties aren't listing to their concerns.

duffpancake · 22/10/2009 23:53

I'd say I was disappointed, but I really wasn't expecting too much from this, in reality. I thought it was a shame that the audience was so packed with people out for his head, because obviously he was prepared for most of what they might throw at him. I think if there had been a few sympathisers asking questions we might have seen more of Nick Griffin's true colours.

I was also disappointed to see the common line that gets trotted out, that the people who vote for the BNP aren't really racist and are only voting for them out of frustration, or as a protest, go unchallenged. The majority of the people who tick that box know exactly who they are aligning themselves with and that needs to be dealt with. Now.

forehead · 22/10/2009 23:53

What you may find is that after this program the BNP support will go increase, because of all the publicity, but the support will eventually subside.
I am watching This Week and Diane Abbot thinks that the NG will look like a victim.
