But that was 7 months after the event. And none of them there were a doctor either.

At the time she was in the police station, ie within hours of it happening, thats the time a statement should have been taken. A police surgeon would have been called if there were any doubts over mother or daughters state of mind ( and there clearly were on both counts ) and then a shrink for further assesment.

The solicitor got it right on the mothers behalf as she pointed out she was likely unfit for interview but she should have pressed the point further. A good custody sergeant would have erred on the side of caution in a case like this and called a doctor. It would have been the custody sergeant call and not the officers in the case.

LMAO HeadlessLadyH!

HeadlessLadyH · 08/10/2009 14:59

Ineedmore hope you are LMAO at my DS flashing his willy and not my incisive critique of the police in this make believe televisiual programme!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 08/10/2009 15:06

Sorry, yes! My DS does the same as we're potty training (still ).....

HeadlessLadyH · 08/10/2009 15:08

Phew. Thought for one moment I was going to get in a ruck with a member of the filth or something.

DS1 was potty trained 18 months ago. He has removed his pants and trousers now because "his bottom is warm". WTF??

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 08/10/2009 15:20

LMAO again, HLH....! Aren't boys strange creatures sometimes?!

Wouldn't have a clue about police procedure as I was an English teacher in a past life before the DC turned my brain into mush.....

Now had it been set in a Comprehensive school.....

HeadlessLadyH · 08/10/2009 15:32

Are you a big fan of Waterloo Road then???

Right, off to activities now (nods to dandylioness). A swim may cool DS1s bottom down I fink.

TheDemonicButDandyLioness · 08/10/2009 16:49

LadyH I still haven't recovered from the time you took your sons ice skating and swimming in the same afternoon. Don't think I'd ever manage that in the same year, let alone day.

Anyway, here are my wild plot guesses -

Juliet was raped. By someone we haven't seen yet - possibly the actor Greyskull's friend knows. He could have been a stranger to Juliet. Joe blamed her for putting herself in a vulnerable position and getting raped. He then starts become (more) obssessive about her 'safety' and her movements and her hygiene. He also starts raping her anally, no longer having sex with her vaginally because she was 'contaminated' by the rapist. She goes on anti-depressants. She doesn't go out.

Juliet tells the doctor friend that she was raped, but he is sworn to secrecy. He knows that the baby isn't Joe's but the rapist. She has sworn him to secrecy which is why he's cagey about having seen her.

The watch is a red herring - doesn't she find at home anyway? It's plot purpose is to make us think she was having an affair with the doctor.

Not quite sure what the 'I was doing it for you' comment by Juliet to Ella is about, other than protecting her from an increasingly obssessive and abusive father. Joe would freak if he finds out she's pregnant and will know it's not his.

The life insurance is about the baby.

Whaddya think?

LaDiDaDi · 08/10/2009 17:13

I remember her finding a watch in a pocket.

I like the idea about the life insurance.

Not sure about the rest but the doctor's wife does seem to imply that something happened to the family at some point in the past and the godfather/chambers manager guy says "I know what's going on at home" maybe he knows something about the previous events?

TheDemonicButDandyLioness · 08/10/2009 17:14

I was half joking about it all. But I do think there is a Sinister Thing behind all the husband's sinster goings on.

SleepingLion · 08/10/2009 17:29

Am loving reading this thread.

But I don't think we are making enough of the weird photos on Joe's mobile. I don't know what we should be making of them but can we enter them into the evidence alongside:

Exhibit A: pot of vaseline
Exhibit B: the watch
Exhibit C: the life insurance
Exhibit D: the blood on the nightdress
Exhibit E: the drug dealer/gay sex man under the bridge
Exhibit F: the bumsex
Exhibit G: the anti-depressants
Exhibit H: the annoying kitchen

What have I missed??

SleepingLion · 08/10/2009 17:30

ps: I have never been a legal-type person in my life but it even struck me that the legal bits had holes you could drive a whole fleet of trucks through...

said · 08/10/2009 17:32

Have we decided who put the knife in? And how? From what angle? Still thinking it might be the daughter wot dun the stabbing.

cremolatorium · 08/10/2009 17:52

I think the photos are 'before' and after pics.like of shampoo - to see if she has used any: or the parked car- to see if it is parked in a diff place.
I think the daughter dunnit.
you can also add Joe's log books to the list sleepinglion

also is ther any significance to the drug smuggler girl in the mother and baby unit?

said · 08/10/2009 18:02

"Dr Rose was playing with a water hose in the garden with the girls - isn't that the usual sign of being a paedo?" I think that's just one of those red herring devices. Will be disappointed if not as too hackneyed.

TheDemonicButDandyLioness · 08/10/2009 18:25

Yes, I thought last night that the photos were 'before' and 'afters' to keep control of what the wife was up to.

There was a big focus on the water hose, we were clearly meant to notice it, but I also hope it's a red herring as too obvious.

NyeEve · 08/10/2009 18:30

shoudl we have a criminal jsutice name change?

HeadlessLadyH · 08/10/2009 19:09

Back from swimming so catching up with the theories...

I actually think its more straight forward and it is domestic abuse by Joe to his wife, but without the "walking into the door". Subtle manipulation to make her completely reliant on him, forced sex etc. And she sought solace with her doctor pal and maybe one thing led to another that afternoon. I'm sure right at the beginning she was seen in her underwear and dressing before driving away?

It was a bit strange last night when the doctor pal was more concerned about Ella's welfare than his own daughters though. So maybe something sinister there.

Oh I don't bloody know......roll on 9pm!

HerHonesty · 08/10/2009 19:13

i wondered last night... thinking that the whole controlling husband, scared wife was a bit of a cliched story and actually she is a cold blooded murderer ....

and the story is about crooked chief detective (there is something about the husband that he doesnt want to get out and the whole rapist/crime of passion covers a load of stuff up)

and duty solicitor who gets woman off on crime of passion because she is feminist left wing legal aid solicitor and cant possibly see that the woman might actually be a bit evil so creates a whole "she was raped" scenario with naive barrister... and woman eventually plays along with it all and gets off..

SleepingLion · 08/10/2009 19:45

[updates list with Exhibit I: Joe's log books]

HerHonesty: I like your theory!

HerHonesty · 08/10/2009 19:47

thanks sl...

still dont think its a patch on last years programme which was one of the best pieces of drame i have seen on uk tv in ages.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 08/10/2009 19:54

Just re-watched the opening of episode 1.. She sat on the edge of a bed, hastily gets dressed and leaves....

... think she bonked the doc...

HeadlessLadyH · 08/10/2009 20:01

You're doing your homework aren't you Ineedmorechoc?!!

Its unlikely she was getting an internal exam, isn't it?
