bad hygiene on Come Dine With Me

I'm afraid I have to have a rant about bad hygiene on "Come Dine with Me". Some people taste whatever's cooking in the pan with a spoon, then put it straight back in the pan - yuck! Last week this guy took a big mouthful from the spoon, then licked it again and put it back in the pan!! And some of them can be right food snobs!! Rant over

err did you see the one where the man lined the plates up on the kitchen floor and put the food on them as he had no room to put them on the work surfaces?

It was rank.
you would put them on the table and take the pans to them wouldnt you.

it makes me gip when they dip the spoon back in after slobbering all over it...

bubblerock · 15/08/2009 16:04

I hate the sweaty men on the programme who wipe their brows on the tea towels - yuk!

TwoIfBySea · 15/08/2009 20:19

Cats always feature, there was that one last week when the cat was sitting on the plates. And of course the older guy in another episode who served his food after the kitty had a nibble and left some hairs on the plate.

The "eccentric" (read rich version of nuts) woman this week also put plates on the floor.

Bubblerock, are you talking about the big guy who wiped his sweat and then used the same teatowel to wipe up spills on his guests plates - (but being sick not blushing!)

bluebump · 15/08/2009 21:23

My sister was on this show as someone who works in a shop that they come into to prepare for their meal, although my sister works in a crystal shop not a food shop! The woman wanted to get each guest a crystal as a gift.

bigchris, that week of the show with the woman who fell asleep because she was drunk has to be one of my favourite ones! They were all totally random that bunch, I remember it being discussed on here at the time.

foxinsocks · 15/08/2009 21:25

the worst was the bloke who served sushi off the bare chest of his friend (he lay down on the table with just shorts on)

except the bloke was hairy so the food had his body hairs on it

foxinsocks · 15/08/2009 21:28

I hope someone else saw that one. I really was open mouthed.

Ponymum · 15/08/2009 21:52

That sounds priceless!

I think I am addicted to this show. I started out watching it because I am a foodie and dream of putting on THE perfect dinner party. But then you realise - this show is not about serving great food and being a wonderful host at all... it is so much more sinister and twisted than that! I hold my breath each time they reveal the weird mix of people - will it be a group of sophisticated like-minded foodies, or a bunch of misfit weirdos with bizarre ideas about food, life and the universe?

My favourite still has to be the woman who was convinced the others all had "bad energy" when she was a totally sour old cow who ruined every night.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 15/08/2009 21:57

The cheese warming

Didn't he warm it in his pants, and then told his guests why it was warm...

Hilarious.

TitsalinaBumsquash · 15/08/2009 22:00

I Sky+ Come Dine With Me to!

I love it, there is always one really awkward rude one isnt there?!

I was watching the celeb one the other day with Peter Stringfellow, i wouldn't want him in my house, he seemed really annoying.

I remember finding myself shouting at the TV when one lady got all her food in from the takeaway next door, she smuggles it in through the kitchen window and she won!

IOnlyReadtheDailyMailinCafes · 15/08/2009 22:01

I remember the crotch side cheese warming and the mad meringue lady. Oh and the lady who fell asleep who was all over the press up north for her drink driving conviction.

I love come dine with me, am sure I would win if I went on

IOnlyReadtheDailyMailinCafes · 15/08/2009 22:05

They were odd that bunch with the sleeping woman.

MrsMuddle · 15/08/2009 22:38

foxinsocks, that one makes me scream and cover my eyes when I see it. I have very low standards of food hygiene, and don't notice or care when people lick spoons or scoop food out the bin, but that hairy chest.....

NotPlayingAnyMore · 15/08/2009 23:08

Oh thank god - I thought I was alone in my love for CDWM!

I retched when they did the Isle of Wight this week and Mandy cooked her Papas Arrugadas in the very same seawater from Sandown Bay which had likely been licking the underside of a tanker in the Nab Anchorage shortly beforehand

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 16/08/2009 09:09

The one with the sea water potatoes, those four shows were great. I was hurting myself laughing at some of the stuff the radio presenter was saying; especially when he whispered "between you and me, I've wee'd in the sea..." which made me go ewwwww at the idea of sea salt and wee blackened potatoes.

hocuspontas · 16/08/2009 12:15

Without the commentary I don't think it would have half it's appeal. I love the bits where the guests are obviously trying to be polite and force something down then the camera cuts to the host in the kitchen saying 'I think everyone really enjoyed that'. Cue some sarcastic 'I don't think that's QUITE right Mary'

TwoIfBySea · 16/08/2009 20:59

No, the best bit with the sea water one was when she had to sieve out the floaters - euch!

hocuspontas · 17/08/2009 15:51

Anyone who missed the hairy chest boaker - coming up on C4 NOW!!!

ilovesprouts · 17/08/2009 15:56

i love cdwm ,but sometimes gip when they lick the spoon etc ,and use it again whithout washing it

ilovesprouts · 17/08/2009 15:57

putting it on now

Deemented · 17/08/2009 15:58

Oh grim!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hocuspontas · 17/08/2009 16:04

I bottled! As the camera zoomed into the hairy belly button I switched over. That wasn't what I wanted to see while scoffing a bag of mini Daim bars!

Lizzzombie · 17/08/2009 16:06

I LOVE this programme but, I think I have watched every episode now and am desperate for some new ones!

Have you seen "4 Weddings" on Living? Its like a weddingy version of Come Dine With Me, imo, just as addictive!

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 17/08/2009 16:13

I watch this when i get time, and saw the one last week witht the lady who didnt serve alchol or mat, her food looked great.

We are doing this as a team at work (small team of 6) and everyone has made wonderful food. My turn in Oct and Im am poohing myself

discoball · 18/08/2009 11:21

Hi, All - just going back to the celebrity one that was one recently. Stringfellow - what a prat! Guy from Blue (name escapes me right now) - very nice, good food. Michelle Heaton came across as very nice, too, but most of all I think that Linda Barker was very genuine and her food looked great. Who is the guy that does the commentary (keep meaning to catch the credits), he deserves an oscar!!!

bethoo · 18/08/2009 11:37
