Profiling the final five

OP posts:
WinkyWinkola · 04/06/2009 10:46

If a man had said that rubbish about working with women, there'd be uproar.

She says silly things does Kate. Bet she wins though. She didn't strike me as massively capable in any of the tasks.

I thought Debra was great. Outspoken, bold, intelligent and a real character.

tonysoprano · 04/06/2009 10:58

I agree, I liked her until that comment. Obviously, a man's woman who has had men falling at ther feet and therefore able to get what she wants. Not so with a group of women.

I think she was trying to intimate that women are threatened of her because she is pretty.

Thanks god Debra went, she may have been mature and gracious in the end but she was a cow. So agressive and rude.

Anniek · 04/06/2009 11:46

NT, in my experience it is not acceptable or normal to be a misoginist.

Rubyruby... That is exactly my concern, that anyone thinks there is a difference in managing men or women.

I've had men cry infront of me because of stress,
I've had men screw up interviews because their girlfriend dumped them the night before,
I've had men gang up on and bully the new pretty man in the office,
I've had men call me at short notice because he needed to look after his kids, so couldn't get in the office that day (Single parent)
and I've had major gossipfests with male managers.

All attributes some would assume would only be done by women!

The ability to manage people is an important skill, managing men or women is not different! And in my expereince neither is more or less difficult just based on their sex.

Got to take DS to preschool now,

Bye

AitchTwoOh · 04/06/2009 12:20

the comment was noted at the time. albeit by a bunch of hysterical women watching a tv show.

Fruitbeard · 04/06/2009 12:33

Never really liked her for a rv. shallow reason (not only did she fancy the awful pantsman, she's got one of those weird jawlines lots of American women have where they have big muscly bits at the sides of their mouths cf. Denise Richards) but at that point last night I really, really started to dislike her!

IMHO, the sort of women who say that are either the Queen Bee type or the ones who get what they want from the blokes they work with by fluttering their eyelashes and they know damn well that that won't work with a bunch of women (probably a gross generalisation, but that's been my experience of 'mens' women' types.

Go Yasmina!

FabulousBakerGirl · 04/06/2009 12:33

I think Kate doesn't like working with women as she can't flirt with them to get what she wants.

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 04/06/2009 12:34

ach, leave her alone, she said it cos she thought it would turn suralan on.

spokette · 04/06/2009 13:35

DH and I have never liked Kate. She is one of those women who uses her prettiness to get what she wants and that is why she does not like working with women. She uses her pyschology training to wrap gullible, sappy men round her manipulative fingers.

I predicted from Yasmin's first task as PM (buffet task) that she would win and I really hope she does.

Tinker · 04/06/2009 13:44

I did laugh at Nick's comment that "perhaps she doesn't have a personality?" Kate is deeply dull but predictable. Agree that she's threatened by other women

spokette · 04/06/2009 14:00

I think the episode where her beau was fired sums up Kate accurately. Sat in the back of the car between Phil and Ben, not taking the task seriously and loving the male attention being bestowed upon her.

I have worked with women like Kate and when you remove the shine and polish, there is nothing beneath it. As they say, empty barrels make the most noise. Kate will use her pyschology training and prettiness to manipulate, obfuscate and deceive her way up the greasy pole. Just in the same way that Ben will use his bravado, poshness and loud mouth (and is Sandhurst scholarship)to worm his way up the corporate ladder.

BitOfFun · 04/06/2009 18:05

Hmm, I think it was a daft thing to say, but women like her get a rough deal from other women. If you are academically excellent and also extremely good-looking, people do seem to feel this is somehow unfair and try to pull you down, especially other women. Don't ask me how I know this

spokette · 04/06/2009 19:45

That has not been my experience tbh Bitoffun. I've known beautiful women who were popular with most people. If a woman is likeable, has a good sense of fun and is a good team player, then she will get on with most people. Only spiteful, inadequate jealous people, will give her a hard time.

I did not like Kate from episode one. Mona had elected to be PM and Kate started questioning her competency to the job but did not volunteer to be PM herself. She did the same thing the following week. She is one of those people who will snipe from sidelines, undermine someones credibility but make out that she is a great team player when ultimately she is only interested in being part of a team if she is the centre of attention.

BitOfFun · 04/06/2009 20:03

From some other women then- yes, the spiteful ones. But they are exactly the sort to make school or work very unpleasant.

But I see what you mean.

TheBolter · 04/06/2009 21:24

I'm so pleased to see I'm not alone in my feelings about Kate. My dsis (Team Kate) and I (Team Yasmina) discussed her earlier, I really can't figure out what the big deal is with her.

Kate is just like any other academically intelligent, attractive businesswoman. I have many friends like her. All would be more than capable of doing Siralan's job but in a very methodical way - Kate will never set the world alight. I haven't noticed her do anything outstanding in the last few weeks.

She doesn't like working with women because she can't manipulate them. Simple as.

Yasmina however has real raw talent and an unbelievable sense of motivation and drive.

But I fear Kate will win as all finals follow the same formula: dynamic vs 'safe' finalist who has just managed to get through as is popular and competent.

The safe bland finalist always wins.

TheBolter · 04/06/2009 21:25

On a lighter note, this is very funny!

NoTart · 04/06/2009 21:40

Hilarious!! Haven´t laughed so much in ages!

hf128219 · 04/06/2009 21:43

Well, well. Apparently there is some real gossip on Kate. What a shocker!

BitOfFun · 04/06/2009 21:48

Bloody bloody bloody brilliant, hahahahaha!

MaggieBee · 05/06/2009 08:53

anybody remember Kristina Grimes? she lost against that young guy that suralan loved. And the Badger or course. she lost against Nicola Dewberry (?).

When Suralan picks a woman, he always picks the wrong woman because he's an idiot, and then he later blames the woman because he made the wrong choice. ~There have been excellent women he could have picked over the years and he always looked over their shoulder and picked either a 22 yr old boy who sold aerials out of the back of a van, or a very maleable pretty young girl who'd be no trouble (like women should be)

Ok the badger was a bit in your face!, but I was a huge fan of Kristina Grimes and she definitely should have won the series she was in. She was in the same series as Katie Hopkins.

Kate is OK. Don't love don't hate her. Bit disappointed that she felt the need to go blonde. She would have come across better her natural hair colour. She wouldn't have appeared to be so focussed on her appearance. Not just appearance, but her 'sexiness' iykwim.

spokette · 05/06/2009 09:25

The Bolter

Absolutely agree with your assessment about Yasmina. From her first task as PM she stood out from the other candidates for her focus, drive, commitment and her inspiring leadership.

She is miles ahead of the other candidates in terms of business acumen and flair. It would be a travesty if she did not win it.

spokette · 05/06/2009 09:26

If she does not win it will be because Sralan is scared of taking on someone who is more than capable of giving him a good run for his money and that would be very small of him imho.

TheBolter · 05/06/2009 15:02

Spokette, yes you are right - he goes on about taking risks but AFAIC he's never taken any risks with his final selection. I have nearly always backed the loser because IMO they have always been more interesting, more 'out there' than the opposing, safe finalist that Siralan always choses.

I'm beginning to think the show's a bit of a farce anyway - clearly Siralan only wants a certain type - and the type he want is two-a-penny on your average graduate milkround.

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 05/06/2009 18:48

I don't understand why he needs a new apprentice every year anyway. What happened to the old one?

mummyplonk · 05/06/2009 19:01

TheBolter - sooo funny, feel like a wally sat here crying on my own, thanks 4 cheering me up.
