What am I going to do without ER?!

NeedaNewName · 28/05/2009 20:30

Have sent DH out to the shops so I can watch in peace and quiet, though he'll be back in time to see me sobbing as I no doubt will be.

Is anyone else out there going to be sad at the last ever ER?

glittery - yes, yes and yes

it's so sad, that it is over now, i managed not to cry, but it was good. Maybe it will be like friends and they will repeat it endlessly over and over again (fingers crossed)

Sheeta · 28/05/2009 23:05

lifelong ER addict, real time WTF. Never knew it was Kem. Always thought it was Kim.

SNOWBall4girlz · 28/05/2009 23:09

well i am watching it on plus one and have a big box of tissues it is soo sad

SNOWBall4girlz · 28/05/2009 23:11

laughing though at mr fred and the fractured penis ;)

EightiesChick · 28/05/2009 23:25

I thought the end was a little flat too. There has been a big neon sign flashing 'SAM AND GATES WILL GET BACK TOGETHER' for weeks now so I wish they'd at least made a little more fuss about it. I'm all for understated but not in the last ever episode!

I also have never liked Kem. TBH I am hazy about what terms she and Carter are supposed to be on and how it all got that way. Not to underestimate the loss of a child, but the series just doesn't seem to have fully justified her being like she is - as shown I think by the fact that so many posts here have said they don't like her. She does seem cold, and doesn't seem to think of it being Carter's loss as well as hers. And she didn't even ask about his kidney op!

I'm 35 so the thirties theory holds...

There are always reruns going on on More4 and even on C4. I remember watching a lot of them in the middle of the night on C4 when I was in hospital for a long spell a few years ago, and couldn't sleep well. What you need is Sky+ so that they can be stored up from odd times of the day and then watched conveniently. I did start a run of watching them all again a while back, but only got as far as series 3.

SNOWBall4girlz · 28/05/2009 23:47

well loved it nice seeing reese and susan but previously on er had already got me (:

the mum dying reiterates the message that is it real iykwim not all happy endings will really miss it
glad dh on nights did not see me cry lol
btw i am 42

PleasinglyPointless · 29/05/2009 09:38

I didn't shed a tear. Feel very cheated. I'm 28 btw.

I found Rachel all a bit too cheesy.

Loved having the full start though.

BunnyLebowski · 29/05/2009 14:03

Yes it definitely went out with a whimper rather than a bang

They left too many stories unfinished and it was just a wee bit flat.

I still cried my blardy eyes out though! Those wee babies, the mum dying, the man with AIDS and cancer, Carter's speech about his baby

Kem is and always was a cold little witch, doesn't deserve our Carter.

I'm guessing the Rory Gilmore character was there to illustrate the new blood in the ER and that things would go on as always just with new people.

OhBling · 29/05/2009 14:07

But how mad must the actors who played the interns in this series have been? Suddenly the new girl comes in and gets all the lines?!

BunnyLebowski · 29/05/2009 14:15

I was thinking that OhBling! This last set of interns have been rubbish! Might as well not have been in it at all! Well apart from the pot brownie episode

I thought Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore) was actually very good. Quite a good career boost for a young actress to be in the finale of such an epic series!

FairLadyRantALot · 29/05/2009 19:02

what an amazingly fantastic final episode....fantastic storyline, I think....makes me want it back all the more though....

Still not that keen on Morris, however, yes, I think he has been working out a bit and they gave his character a bit more depth...I think....

when the mum died I just cried so much....and that old couple...awww....and the old guy with AIDS, what a character....oh, sigh....I think I will have to buy the whole box set at one point, and whilst it won't be the same....but well...

ramonaquimby · 29/05/2009 19:39

have always loved ER too but I thought last night's was a bit of a let down - did think that Carter and Susan were taking over the ER like they owned the place when they hadn't actually worked there for years - I would have been a bit huffy had I been the attending!

didn't really warm to any of the newer characters after Carter and Elizabeth and esp esp esp Dr Greene left the series

would love to get the box set

FairLadyRantALot · 29/05/2009 19:43

well, but carter had started working there again....

Kimi · 29/05/2009 20:06

coming Dr Green, classic

scrappydappydoo · 29/05/2009 20:21

The bloke in the documentary beforehand said they were trying to mirror the pilot episode hence why rory gilmore was there as the newbie being overwhelmed by it all. Personally I think rachel greene should have been the newbie intern instead and they should have promoted carter to chief...
I actually thought it was a good episode cos it didn't finish everything off neatly and wasn't too mawkish and reminiscent (just the right balance). Leaves it open to be be brought back in 10 years time

amireallythatsad · 29/05/2009 21:31

Ok. I fancy Archie Morris. And Simon Cowell (see other thread).

I started crying at the previously episode. I LOVE ER. I've watched it from the start, I remember watching when Carter got stabbed with my dad and that was years ago....

It's been there through everything So corny I know.

I need to get out more.

slayerette · 29/05/2009 21:58

Oddly enough I welled up when Rachel told Frank she was Mark Greene's daughter and the expression on his face was just so - Ah, you don't see his sort any more...

Did not see the point of bringing Kem back - what a cold character. Loved the reunion in the pub after the opening ceremony but did anyone else think it just wasn't the same without Doug Ross there?

Thought the newbie was fantastic! Liked the understated way they reunited Gates and Sam although thought having Neela on webcam was a bit - ooh, let's get her in the last episode.

Loved the final scene - the sense that it's all business as usual...

Have just added season 1 to my LoveFilm list - DH and I going to watch all 15 yrs from the beginning

Kimi · 29/05/2009 22:26

I watched the last episode weeks and weeks ago, And I must admit to having a little cry.

I loved ER and I liked the way some of the people grew on you, I hated Archie when he started but by the last episode I thought he was so well written and you saw depth to him.

I was even starting to like branner although I don't know why all the men went for nelia (she was made for Ray clear from the start)

I loved Frank he was so funny I loved the episode where he had a heart attack and it turned out his daughter had downs, it opened up so much of his character, I loved his send off for Nelia too.

I will miss this show, it was one of the very few things worth turning on the TV for

thegrowlygus · 29/05/2009 22:37

Just finished watching it.
Tears a plenty here mainly because of Carter's baby boy.

You see, I was a med student when Carter was. I watched from the start too (age 34 so yes - in my thirties!) and my first son was stillborn the year before Carter's was.

I watched that episode through so many tears. And I was pleased that they did it 'right'. And that they didn't just forget that the baby had died like they do in so many tv shows. And in the last episode, they still remembered.

I'll miss it.

Saddo that I am!

NeedaNewName · 29/05/2009 23:39

Yes it was fab that Reece was there, I also loved that the children weren't forgotten in ER.

I will definitely miss it, it was the only TV show I insisted in watching.

OMG on the previously on ER show when they showed Pratt with the tear running down his cheek, that was a horrendous episode, luckily I had been warned but even so....

FairLadyRantALot · 30/05/2009 09:47

It really was only 15 years, eh...for whatever reason I expected it to have run for years before we got to see it in Germany, but apparently not than ...which is highly unusual....

ronshar · 30/05/2009 09:59

I am going to miss it so much.
I am 34.
Sad.

NeedaNewName · 30/05/2009 15:22

Glad I'm not the only one!

Just to add to my review - how fantastic was it to have the opening credits back again?? That was practically my favourite moment!
