She has come a long way but, shit, her kids suffered. Hopefully they are young enough to get over it.

Ahhh, I'm so pleased they are really getting there, makes me want to cry but in a nice way.

Milliways · 17/05/2005 22:01

That ending bought tears to my eyes

happymerryberries · 17/05/2005 22:01

And me, soft cow that I am

Gwenick · 17/05/2005 22:25

When it first started I though 'omg what is she doing with those kids' - but as more about her background came to light I felt more pity than anger at her.

She did so well to come so far with them, and in the process obviously dealt with some of her own issues.

Tears in my eyes at the end too

She deserves a huge medal and a decent fella who won't beat her up

Changing yourself like that is a monumental task and I admired her honesty. She put on nothing for the cameras, and was not afraid to show genuine shame and remorse. Those kids were loved, and once her behaviour started to change, we could see they loved her, too. Bless the little 11 year old who told his mum to come and eat something, and let her know he liked the chance to sit and chat...and the little girl whose eyes just shone at her mum doing something new ie reading a book with her....

That mum is a real trouper, and I reckon that intervention has probably saved her kids from perpetuating her own misery.

Brilliant telly.

bloomineck what an indictment of all the alleged 'support' that she's had before, when given a few weeks of daily encouraging and challenging support, she could turn her entire family around. not sure i could do the same.
maybe she was only really motivated to change recently though. Good on 'er.

tiktok · 18/05/2005 11:45

All she needs to do now is to stop the fags

Tinker · 18/05/2005 12:38

The lack of support she had was so noticeable, exactly the kind of person who would be just written off. Felt really proud of her by teh end.

i watched only the second half and sobbed my eyes out. how heart breaking when you look at you own kids and relise what awful things happed to others behind closed doors. shame on the social services, she done so well, with a little support and encouragment.our system sucks
