Is it good? I have happened across a couple of episodes from Season 2 and it looks like something I might like, but I have no idea what is going on plot-wise. I thought it might be worth looking for the first Season on DVD if it's recommended here.

Also Joan. Oh god Joanie.

do I need to read the thread SEA?!

ahundredtimes · 29/04/2009 19:27

The sister is bringing up Peggy's baby.

I absolutely love MM. Last night's episode was really great. I loved the bit a couple of week's ago when Betty's friend talked to her about the end of her therapy sessions and said "I've got my diagnosis - I'm bored".

I didn't used to like Peggy but I'm warming to her, she is becoming much less brittle.

ahundredtimes · 29/04/2009 19:33

Oh god I like her so much, I always have right from her first day. She was so precise and staring and cool headed despite awkwardness. I think I was a bit like Peggy when younger.

Swedes. tell me about Betty and her friend and the guy from the riding stables please.

southeastastra · 29/04/2009 19:41

betty has some very odd ways. like the time didn't she shoot the neighbours pigeons in the first series?

i like her though, she's like a sindy doll

southeastastra · 29/04/2009 19:42

sorry must preview

Babbity · 29/04/2009 20:22

I reckon Betty is pregnant.

And the reason she set up her friend with the young guy - I think it's complicated - she wanted to do it herself but she couldn't because she's too perfect - this was a way of acting out her own fantasy vicariously that allowed her simultaneously to chastise herself/her friend for such a sin.

ahundredtimes · 30/04/2009 17:08

Oh yes very good Bab. Did she want to have sex with him do you think? She has interesting attitude to sex Betty.

Do you think it might also be that she wanted to encourage them to do it, because Don had been unfaithful to her, so she was encouraging everyone to behave in a way she considers base so she could be revolted by it, and excited by it too? Almost, he did this to me, you must do this now, so I can be horrid to you? It was an exercise in power, like how she tried out with the car mechanic.

Babbity · 30/04/2009 20:10

Yes, exactly that. She so controlled and so moral, that she is repulsed/attracted in equal measure by sex and desire. And yes, definitely a power thing, and to prove that she's immune to this sort of thing, but the whole of the rest of the world can't help themselves. Classic ice maiden behaviour...

ahundredtimes · 30/04/2009 20:45

Poor Betty. I don't think she's an ice maiden. She was an innocent, corrupted by a bad marriage - she's got it all screwed up. She was meant to be a pretty girl who married a handsome ad executive and live happily and beautifully in a bikini for ever after. She barely knows herself. She's dangerous now though, seeing as it didn't quite work out that way.

Is good innit.

Next: Joan and the Doctor.

oooh dear.

Babbity · 30/04/2009 21:00

I know, that was horrible wasn't it. Poor Joan.

southeastastra · 01/05/2009 13:02

he isn't joan's type at all!

was sort of shocked at don's relationship with the other mrs draper. ooooh it's so good. will be so sad when it ends.

bamboostalks · 01/05/2009 13:07

I think Peggy's sister is not bringing up the baby because when she went to see her in hospital (flashback) the sister was pregnant so taht is her baby. The other child is older still.

Swedes · 02/05/2009 16:31

Re Betty and the lunch date set-up for her friend and the young man. I think it was because Don had said that he took that Jimmy actor's wife out for lunch 'that's all'. So I think for her it was a test. And explains why she got cross.

Oh yes Joan and that revolting doctor. He clearly has issues with sex and control. I can see her back with the boss man and the young pretty thing being ditched, can you all?

I absolutely love Don Draper, he's so versatile.

Kimi · 02/05/2009 16:36

DP says it is fab

Babbity · 02/05/2009 17:26

aaah yes Swedes, I'd forgotten about that. Brilliant.

Starbear · 03/05/2009 10:58

I think Betty likes playing games with people. Stable man thought he was going to have lunch (sex) with her. She wanted to test her power over men and could get out of the situation by feeding him her friend. I think she has a evil streak.
Love Peggy. Still think it's her baby. Pete will adopt the baby before wife divorces him and FIL causes real career problems for him. Already lost an account.
Poor Joan I think she would love to do the same job as Peggy. I think she's Peggy's biggest allie. If they have any sense someone will come along and give her a decent job, just to please me the viewing female public, alright ME!
Love Don/Dick want him to get back into the boardroom and be dirty and nasty. Not really into nice Dick.

southeastastra · 03/05/2009 11:14

joan's chest is getting comically larger isn't it?

Starbear · 03/05/2009 11:18

Yes and I think the bum too!

Babbity · 05/05/2009 21:48

Is everybody ready for the season finale? I'm v excited but I'll be gutted when it's over.

littlepollyflinders · 05/05/2009 22:47

littlepollyflinders · 05/05/2009 22:48

mrsblanc · 06/05/2009 09:01
