nickytwotimes · 05/03/2009 13:50

Ooh, haven't seen Aitch's review
I am currently awaiting it with baited breath.
Wish I could have a nap this afternoon as I will be up past my bedtime.

Saltire · 05/03/2009 14:49

I've not read any review yet, and was going to start a thread asking if anyone had read the books it is based on.

LoisGriffin · 05/03/2009 19:08

I'm v excited about this.
From what I've read I'm hoping that at last we will be doing something as brave and interesting as the best of American tv.
IMHO we are way WAY behind

Saltire · 05/03/2009 19:20

Lois - have you read the books?

LoisGriffin · 05/03/2009 21:04

No - but I've just ordered them from Amazon.
I think I may love them

southeastastra · 05/03/2009 21:06

So far I think it's really good, they've got the period and setting just right imo. What a cast too.

Where's aitch's review?

LaDiDaDi · 05/03/2009 22:45

Just had to move away from the TV. Hard to watch this, I hate violence.

noonki · 05/03/2009 22:54

me too ladidadi

Threadworm · 05/03/2009 23:12

Blimey, that was good, wasn't it. I'm hopping into my Ford Cortina to move back down south, where the sun shines.

brimfull · 05/03/2009 23:18

god I lost interest half way through

SnowlightMcKenzie · 05/03/2009 23:19

gruesome!

LaDiDaDi · 05/03/2009 23:20

I kept watching, but from a safe distance from the TV .

I take it that John Dawson was the child killer?

Frizbe · 05/03/2009 23:24

yes he was! you can't beat a bit of grim northern drama eh?

Bonnycat · 06/03/2009 07:09

I had a total wimpout and couldnt watch the last bit after they dragged him off from the party-how did it end?wish id watched it all now!

noddyholder · 06/03/2009 08:26

Fantastic such a change to see a real drama instead of endless 'reality' drivel

southeastastra · 06/03/2009 08:54

excellent, gripping stuff, blimey wonder if it was really like that?!

OP posts:
itchyandscratchy · 06/03/2009 09:50

Fantastic - grim but fantastic.

but I have some questions (SPOILER ALERT if you've sky+ it and haven't watched it yet)

Did sean bean's wife sew the swan wings on? Are the bodies of the two earlier girls at ShangriLa (she kept saying "they're under the lovely lovely carpets")?
And did those two bent coppers give Edward the gun because they knew he'd kill sean bean and get him out of the police's hair (my theory) or did they hope Edward would kill himself (dh's theory)?

Saltire · 06/03/2009 10:02

I like Sean bean, but when i saw him in this , my first thought was "blimey he's aged".
I suppose we should make the most of dramas like this while we can, as it seems that ITV won't be making many more in an effort to save money!

nailpolish · 06/03/2009 10:05

i love d this
i love crime stuff though
i have loads of questions too though, same as itchyandscratchy

nailpolish · 06/03/2009 10:05

i do think the policemen gave him the gun knowing/hoping he would shoot sean bean though

southeastastra · 06/03/2009 10:06

i think she did sew them (drove her insane), they were under the carpets and the police knew he'd shoot sean bean so doing their dirty work for them.

I thought Andrew Garfield was superb - he is one quality actor.
I really enjoyed it but the violence was a tad harrowing
I did look away and mute it when he was hooded and trapped.
I could see it happening though
Had plot sussed

noddyholder · 06/03/2009 11:27

he is a great actor What else has he been in?
