Thought it was good, if a bit grim. The actor who played the journalist was fab, apart from the fact that DH kept saying "it's Louis Theroux" every 5 mins.

LaDiDaDi · 06/03/2009 12:53

I'm pleased that the bits I was a bit too scared to watch have been clarified.

I agree, Andrew Garfield is brilliant, he was good in Boy A too.

ProfYaffle · 06/03/2009 12:57

Compelling but grim as grim can be. Enjoyed it in a funny way my only criticism it was a bit too self consciously arty in a few places (burning gypsy camp for example)

Looking forward to the next one.

themoon66 · 06/03/2009 14:16

Am I sad for noticing the Hillards carrier bag and feeling nostalgic?

Looking forward to next week's as it is more my teenage era... fear of going out clubbing in Bradford and Leeds 'in case the Ripper gets you'.

vjg13 · 07/03/2009 08:29

Help, really want to watch this but can't find out if it's repeated. Does anyone know?

hackneybird · 07/03/2009 12:41

I thought it was brilliant. Really intelligent and intense, if somewhat gruelling.

Looking forward to next week with Paddy Considine. He is one of my fave actors.

sfxmum · 07/03/2009 12:50

It was very very good but DH pointed out no one would have said F**K you in those days like two characters did

can't comment as not British

weebump · 07/03/2009 12:57

Yes, I was well impressed. And I loved the 'artiness'. The cinematography and editing were superb, and really made it feel different to a lot of other crime drama on the telly. Very grim, murky and smokey. Well done Channel 4.

Ninkynork · 07/03/2009 13:44

vjg13 I found it on the Channel 4 website. It's on the catch-up bit here:

www.channel4.com/watch_online/

P.S Did it ever explain why that terrible thing was done to her? (Trying not to post spoilers)

grouchyoscar · 07/03/2009 13:55

Moon66 DH and I noticed the Hillards bag! Dh used to work for them as a student so he got all goosepimpley nostalgic.

It was very good. I await the wonderful Mr Considine with bated breath. He is a genius actor

itchyandscratchy · 07/03/2009 15:38

they had a trailer for the whole series at the pics last night. seeing it on the big screen was electric.

agree that andrew garfield is comelling to watch. Love paddy C too. Has anyone seen him in that shane meadows film Dead Man's shoes? fantastic.

itchyandscratchy · 07/03/2009 15:39

comelling? compelling

donnie · 07/03/2009 15:42

I found it very very grim - which I suppose is appropriate for subject matter like that. Very well acted and gritty but a bit too grim for me!

hackneybird · 07/03/2009 16:21

Itchy - I thought Dead Man's Shoes was wonderful. I will watch anything with Paddy C in it.

themoon66 · 07/03/2009 18:20

sfxmum... I thought that about all the swearing too. People just never said 'Fuck you'. They didn't say 'fuck' very much at all really.

grouchyoscar · 08/03/2009 13:23

Re Paddy C, has anyone seen the Shane Meadows film 'A room for Romeo Brass?' Darn fine bit of British Independant Film making. Shane Meadows and Paddy Considine are a great combination

stainesmassif · 11/03/2009 22:16

i could appreciate the artiness, but couldn't see the point of the story iyswim - it was obvious from the beginning where we were going to end up - not enough mystery for me, and it was all so very grim! will definitely watch next week though, i luuuuuuuuurrrrrrve paddy considine
