I've been following Miss Trimble's progress keenly over the last few weeks. Now she is featured in both the Observer and the Mail on the same day.

Some of the blog articles mentioned in the article and linked to in the comments are not very nice.

What's the betting she turns up presenting a "Classical world for Beginners" type documentary? I'd watch!

Thanks for the heads up about the final tonight I'm looking forward to it.

I have to admit I have been referring to her as 'smug woman' in previous rounds, but I didn't mean to be horrid, I'm just jealous! At least she doesn't take a sip of water every time she answers a question, she'd be dying for a wee by the first picture round!

Fattipuffs - was he American sounding with a Herr Flick mean stare and glasses - possibly South East Asian in origin?

Yes that's odd isn't it. Why can't they look thrilled, or do a little goal celebration?

Nonickname - no, he was very English indeed, almost a caricature of a nerdy classicist, very endearing.

I will try and find out...

Btw I love your description: simultaneously american/german/SE asian

ScummyMummy · 23/02/2009 17:36

You're right, mrsbabookaloo. It is hard. I feel strongly that I am being unfair but just find their grimacing gurning so very hard to watch. It is definitely my problem and not theirs.

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 23/02/2009 17:37

Okay, I think it was Magdalen College, 2004. Can't find the team line-up yet though.

ScummyMummy · 23/02/2009 17:42

You are dead right, dittany. And I think frank pleasure would actually be better to watch. Probably the sense that they need to come across as simultaneously very pleased and as charmingly modest makes it almost impossible to summon a likable response.

Habbibu · 23/02/2009 20:01

Ok - here we go. Come ON Manchester.

ABetaDad · 23/02/2009 20:08

Come on Corpus.

They have not got off the ground yet.

Habbibu · 23/02/2009 20:09

Actually, Yeo from Manchester is pretty fucking brilliant too, yet he doesn't warrant a mention.

ABetaDad · 23/02/2009 20:14

As an ex Corpuscle I have to declare an interest.

I think that Corpus are just playing with Manchester and waiting to burst past them to leave them demoralised [I hope].

Ewe · 23/02/2009 20:18

Pigs in literature, they have such ridiculous subjects!

JacquelineBouvier · 23/02/2009 20:25

she's really beating herself up about losing that 5 points isn't she?

Meglet · 23/02/2009 20:26

oooooo, it's so close!!! I want corpus to win.

ABetaDad · 23/02/2009 20:26

Yes!!!!!

Ewe · 23/02/2009 20:28

She is amazing!

ABetaDad · 23/02/2009 20:31

Eased past em and pulled away.

Quality finishing there.

A tiny college of 450 people just beat one of the biggest Universities in the land.

Sorry but feeling just a tad triumphant.

edam · 23/02/2009 20:31

would it be really mean to suggest that it might not have been beyond the capabilities of the Beeb to fan the flames just a little bit in order to get some publicity for their show...?

harpsichordcarrier · 23/02/2009 20:32

fkn hell, that was a very impressive performance!

mollyroger · 23/02/2009 20:33

woo-hoo I was trembling for trimble...! Goooood girl!

DumbledoresGirl · 23/02/2009 20:33

Impressive end, I have to admit. I had to lol at the presentation of the trophy though. Ds1 (12) said "It's a piece of bent metal. You could find something like that on any old tip".

LOL

TheFallenMadonna · 23/02/2009 20:35

How do they choose the teams then do you reckon? Out of a university of thousands? The OU fields a team sometimes. Won a few years back in fact I think. How did they get a team together?

DumbledoresGirl · 23/02/2009 20:40

They audition teams. I dont know how the OU one came to be formed.
