Hello again!!

OP posts:
bran · 14/12/2008 10:21

I actually came on here to tell you about the dream I had last night which was highly influenced by Tess's interview with Austin and Matt Dawson. I don't remotely fancy either of them but in the dream they were fighting on a pontoon or dock over a cold lake (wrestling style fighting rather than punching). Every so often they over-balanced and fell in and each time they came back out they had lost an item of clothing. It was very erotic.

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 14/12/2008 10:22

I think that's the best plan, bran.
The only realistic alternative I can think of would be to have a 'free' week if someone dropped out ... so the week after an unexpected departure, no-one gets voted out. They'd have to make the scores 'roll-over' to the following week tho, to stop it being flat.
My mum suggested letting the last person voted out come back in ... but that wouldn't be fair as they wouldn't necessarily have prepared anything, especially if someone pulled out (due to injury or something) late in the week.

They can't guarantee that no-one will drop out ... they can't guarantee that 2 or more people will drop out - what if someone breaks a leg?

annaje · 14/12/2008 11:24

If the votes weren't going to count - then they should have all been in the dance off and let the judges decide. I do feel sorry for the girls now - who pulled off excellent dances and deserved a chance at the final, but we all know Tom gets the most votes so now he's gonna win regardless - I'd be really pissed if I were them! Don't get me wrong, I like Tom, seems like a decent chap - but it's not fair that he gets excluded from the dance off and know one else does!!!!!

When they are down to 3 people - surely there must have been some protocol for this in advance to save the public voting in the first place.

compo · 14/12/2008 11:47

I just hope Tom goes out first on Saturday night
I thought Camilla's choreography was shite and all designed to get his cheeky chapiness to win votes, and then all the celebrity guests going 'oh it's so much harder for a bloke' blah blah blah, they seem desperate for him to win

bran · 14/12/2008 11:59

I'm not sure that a jive is that much harder for a man than a woman though, it seems about equal to me. I can see that the ballroom is a steeper learning curve for the male celebs because they have to lead.

I think the guest were mentioning that it's harder for men because they were trying to be kind about his performance.

This has really buggered up my betting strategy - I was making a tidy profit on Betfair but I've been slightly caught out by this latest development.

Saker · 14/12/2008 14:10

I still think Tom might be at a disadvantage next week because some people might not have voted for him this week realising he was already in the dance-off. I bet Austin was sick as a dog when he saw all three sailing through this week .

I am torn between being disappointed at the clumsy way it was all handled and also the hope that Tom was going out since I felt that he was the least good of the three and the fact that the final will be better with 3 in it.

squeaver · 14/12/2008 14:22

The truth is, if you look at it completely objectively, Tom should have gone last night because he was - by a long way - the worst dancer.

I'm certain that the BBC panicked because he was clearly the most popular with the public and were terrified of it looking like it had been fixed for him to be in the dance-off by the judges' scoring. Then the Daily Mail hordes would have been all over them.

As I said last night, they fixed it to counter any accusations of a fix. Ironic.

In the cold light of day, all of the following will be pissed off:

  • the judges
  • Lisa and Brendan
  • Rachel and Vincent
  • anyone who voted for either of the girls.
squeaver · 14/12/2008 14:24

Oh and Tom's bound to be a shoo-in to win now.

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 14/12/2008 14:50

That's a good point, Bran, what did happen about people who bet on someone leaving this week??

bran · 14/12/2008 14:57

I got my bet cancelled and refunded, I think that's what betting shops would have done too. (I use a betting exchange rather than a company.)

jenk1 · 14/12/2008 15:06

thought brendan looked mightily peeved last night when it was announced they were all going through.

cyLENTeeNIGHT · 14/12/2008 15:28

I'm all intrigued now. Will definitely be watching the results show on iPlayer once Flash Gordon's finished

pinkteddy · 14/12/2008 16:13

I don't think either Lisa or Rachel should be pissed off because after all one of them was definitely going to be in the dance off and could technically have gone out. The other alternative is had it been the traditional method of voting - and one of them had scored 2 and one 3 - then I am almost certain that Tom would have been voted through and they would have both been in dance off with Rachel probably saved. They both looked genuinely delighted last night I have to say.

tribpot · 14/12/2008 17:09

I still can't understand the basis of cancelling the vote on the grounds Tom couldn't avoid the dance-off? Glad in one way though, would much rather have a 3-person final.

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 14/12/2008 17:17

I think that they were worried that it wasn't spelled out to people that there was no point in voting for Tom.

I didn't watch the main program so don't know if I would have worked it out or not ... but clearly a lot of people (including the producers) didn't realise the problem until much later. By which time there will have been lots of votes for Tom.

You know what people are like ... As it was not made very clear that a vote for Tom was a wasted vote, a lot of people would claim to have been cheated.
As it is, a whole lot of other people are now claiming to have been cheated

It's all a mess which would have been solved by the Beeb working out that it was a possible problem and getting a plan in place to deal with it ... but isn't hindsight a wonderful thing?

tribpot · 14/12/2008 18:10

Right, I'm with you. I was so dazed by seeing the lovely Ramprakash in the audience that I lost track of everything else Oh that was the Argentine tango for me.

Saker · 14/12/2008 20:27

Oh I've only just realised that only the public vote is carried forward to next week, not the judges' scores. Sorry obviously being a bit dim . I don't think that's fair, it makes this week's dances a waste of time.

lunamoon2 · 14/12/2008 22:26

I agree about the show dance but had tried to put it to the back of my mind until now. Now I feel sick to the core at myself for just troughing a ham and crisp sandwich followed by a kitkat chunky!!!
I can't get the image of that very lithe thin, flexy, beny doll woman, sneering at me pityingly, knowing that I will never be able to do the legs behind my ears whilst spinning on my ar and gyrating up and down the pecs of a gorilla man routine to such perfection as she can.

Oh well back to the biscuit tin to consol myself

BettyTurnip · 14/12/2008 23:37

Lol luna, if it's any consolation I thought they looked like they should be performing a live sex show in Amsterdam.

Saker · 15/12/2008 09:35

I agree about the showdance, glad it's not just me. I know the BBC dancers' dresses get some stick on here, but don't you think they are generally much more classy than the stuff worn by dancers brought in from outside.

RamblingRosa · 15/12/2008 09:55

I thought R and V's Argentine Tango was beautiful but didn't expect anything less from Vincent as that's his speciality. I think R and V make a lovely couple actually...maybe she should reconsider her engagement to her fiance...?!

I was a bit gutted that no one left on Sunday night but I can see why Beeb had to do it. Odd that they didn't foresee the situation though. Surely they have people who think through all of these possibilities when they draw up the rules for competitions .

OK, I'm going to bang my sisterly drum again here. I've noticed quite a few comments about Camilla being too thin. Last week there were lots of comments about Tess being fat/pg. Can't us women give ourselves a break? Isn't there enough misogynistic shite in the media making women feel bad about being too fat, too thin, etc without us joining in the act. Camilla is very thin but she has been in every series and, like all of the dancers, she gets thinner as the series goes on because she's training/dancing every hour of the day! And Tess has got a lovely figure full stop IMO. 'Tis the season of goodwill to all women you know

RamblingRosa · 15/12/2008 09:56

PS. did anyone see the article with Arlene in the Observer yesterday? I didn't know she had a baby when she was in her forties. Also didn't know she's 65. I think she looks good for her age. I still find her deeply irritating though!

carrotsandpeasifyouplease · 15/12/2008 11:38

I don't think anyone said Tess was fat that would just be ridiculous, I think it was just speculation on whether she was pregnant or not at least thats all I thought it was.

Camilla does look too thin (IMO) for the latin dances, just as she looks extremely graceful in the ballroom dances.

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 15/12/2008 12:31

They could have done it all without the dance off - instead of a dance off, just tot up the judges+audience scores, and send home the lowest, then the audience actually have MORE say in what happens. Although they would have to have announced that when the phone lines opened, so that people didn't imagine they were wasting votes on Tom.

Rachel 3 + 1 = 4
Lisa 3 + 2 = 5
Tom 1 + 3 = 4 (but higher than Rachel's with audience vote priority), so Rachel would go

So then all three potentially could be saved or sent home.

OllieWollieWoo · 15/12/2008 18:51

Changing the subject a tad - but just watching ITT and is it me or has Arlene had a bit of botox since Saturday - either that or she has toothache!
Most strange!
