And yes, the Mum does work, supporting pregnant teenagers, I believe

AbbaFan · 17/10/2008 14:26

I have been wondering where the younger sister is (cant remember her name) - she is hardly ever there.

I felt a bit sorry for Emily this week, when the Dad was moaning about the bath and removing her bedding. She just cant win sometimes!

NannyNanny · 17/10/2008 14:29

I can't believe how spoilt Emily is!! She is old enough to feed herself. She doesn't need someone to buy and make all her food for her. She is an adult, not a child. She really needs to grow up.

Gunnerbean · 19/10/2008 01:28

It all makes me sooooo glad I haven't got a daughter.

How can people say that their 10 and 13yr old daughters are already displaying the same tendencies as Emily. You must be shitting yourselve about what the future holds for you - and them. Far too many kids are allowed (and sometimes encouraged) to behave like adults at far too young an age with sometimes quite shocking consequeces and it seems to be a problem that afflicts girl more than boys.

How did they ever arrive at that stage so early? Why do some parents tolerate their children behaving so staggeringly obnoxiously in their homes? I think some parents can't say much because they're culpable for it.

When she was fussing about having her bedding removed to be washed after a month, I would have told Emily that it might very well be HER bed but it was her bed in MY house. If she didn't want to abide by my house rules then she could go and find herself another bed elsewhere and see how easy it was to fund her lifestyle (fags, booze and all) all on her own.

Maybe the 22 year old older sister would like to take her in...?

saffiw · 19/10/2008 02:35

I cringe whilst watching The Family, but rather like it ... well, except for Jane's awfully tacky clothes. But, I really do like her couch.
DD goes to school with Charlotte and apparently the first week it was on Charlotte had a hoard of kids round her at lunch time asking for an autograph,
One other thing, does anyone else think that maybe their house was two houses knocked into one? it is a really weird configuration.

AbbaFan · 19/10/2008 15:06

Yes - The house is a bit of an odd set up.

I love the show, and think they are just a really normal family.

My kids are still quite young, so it is quite interesting watching a family with teens.

lazymumofteenagesons · 19/10/2008 19:16

Who is funding Emily's nighttime entertainment? She never seems to go to work and has now lost her job. There is no way I would give a kid like that enough money to go out every night. She needs to grow up and take some reponsibility. They should not be making her meals etc and she should be kicked out of bed every morning.

filz · 20/10/2008 08:37

saffiw, you could always drive past and see for yourself

BookLuver · 22/10/2008 19:30

Up until last week Emily had a job selling shots in a club - I think she took the job as it meant her social life was included

jenk1 · 22/10/2008 21:18

well the mum certainly put effort in didnt she????????????

They'll wear that poor girl's name out...Emmerlyyy...

southeastastra · 22/10/2008 21:24

this is depressing tonight

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 22/10/2008 21:25

it's the same every week

jenk1 · 22/10/2008 21:25

i dont know why they dont give her an ultimatum, either pay up or leave, shes so rude to her parents.

OP posts:
poshbloodencrustedwellies · 22/10/2008 21:27

I'd kick her arse out ,end of. Stroppy rude lazy little shite.

scaryfucker · 22/10/2008 21:30

I agree she is a lazy gobshite.

But kick her out-where to?

She cannot support herself. Their relationship would break down if chuck her on the street, so they are kinda stuck.

They seem a loving family (even if the Dad is nobbish at times). I would have been furious with him if he took my DD's side against me like he did tonight.

Judd · 22/10/2008 21:33

Has anybody else noticed that 2 weeks ago, they suddenly started being more religious (for want of a better way of putting it?) Dad had a JCUK T shirt on, and then was clapping (arf!) to a Christian music CD later on. Then mum was asking him if he was going to church (on the HUGE row day) and he told Emily he'd like her to marry "a nice boy from the Baptist Church".
There was no obvious Christian leaning in the previous programmes, and I wondered why it suddenly snowballed....

luckylady74 · 22/10/2008 21:37

Hear hear Fio Fio
I cannot think of a single way I was different to Emily when I was 19 except I was doing no work at university - and I would put down my having got there to the fact I had middle class cultural capital/ good school as opposed to any particular effort of my own.

I think I'm now a quite responsible adult at 34.

I'm so pleased for Emily that she has parents who unconditionally love her as well as try to tell her what she should be doing.
I'm sure lots of you were hard working 19 yr olds with lots of responsibility, but it doesn't mean the rest of us who took a little longer to grow up were um 'prostitutes'.
I'm loving this programme by the way

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 22/10/2008 21:39

At last the Mum is standing up to her.

NotAnOtter · 22/10/2008 21:43

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 22/10/2008 21:44

I just think it's a wonderful wonderful thing that Emily has, at 19, got a dad who she can call when she's crying and who gives her a cuddle - I had friends for that when I was that age, but certainly not parents.

ahundredtimes · 22/10/2008 21:50

OMG is it on NOW?
