I couldn't bear it to begin with and now am a bit obsessed with it. It's the Henry effect.

But what's really important is the hot totty - Jonathan is lush as Henry!

missed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyone got a link?

cornsilk · 03/10/2008 22:55

Jodyray · 03/10/2008 22:56

gutted....... no smiley with tears ha!!

cornsilk · 03/10/2008 23:00

have you looked on i-player?

Oh I thought it was really sad and quite moving. Not the usual cheesefest.

Anne really did have her execution postponed as the French sworsdman was delayed. I thought they got that horrific situation across brilliantly.

Like your idea about the swans, cornsilk.

Can someone please tell me who was the accused lover who they let go last week that said "I am the only one who was guilty" or words to that effect?

cornsilk · 03/10/2008 23:29

yes I didn't get that bit either - he was watching the execution

TheOldestCat · 03/10/2008 23:33

Wasn't he the king's groom (or something) who she'd had a thing with before getting together with famously brunette Henry?

or was he William Wyatt the poet?

[confused emoticon]

cornsilk · 03/10/2008 23:34

Where is expat when you need her?

Swan pie was the traditional royal meal following execution of one's spouse. Absence of swan pie was a key piece of evidence during the inquest into the death of Princess Diana.

I don't like Henry's wussy light voice. Not macho enough but he is pretty. Preferred Ray Winstone's interpretation though. Thought pouty Anne was good when she got the chance to do a bit of acting other than...er...pouting. I shed a tear. Oh yes.

expatinscotland · 03/10/2008 23:38

is he finally going to get straight old and die then?

i'd be excited then!

cornsilk · 03/10/2008 23:39

Jonathan's Henry is fab - it's not the acting that's important, it's the black leather codpiece.

OP posts:
twinsetandpearls · 03/10/2008 23:39

I thought it was him watching the execution.

wessexgirl · 03/10/2008 23:40

Anne was brilliant, the only good best thing about the programme. She really choked me.

TheOldestCat · 03/10/2008 23:40

Was Thomas Wyatt according to a quick bit of internet research.

I mean in the programme; have no idea if he was about at the real execution.

cornsilk · 03/10/2008 23:41

expat - did the executioner make Anne look away like he did in the programme tonight?

OP posts:
wessexgirl · 03/10/2008 23:41

So it's a lie about two hyphens equalling strikethrough! Off with their heads!

MrsBates · 03/10/2008 23:41

Nice codpiece I grant you... still wish he wouldn't speak though. Very off putting - he'd take off the codpiece and you'd just be left with that twit voice. The bigger the codpiece...the smaller the fish - little know Tudor phrase.

MrsBates · 03/10/2008 23:41

Did she say 'I have but a little neck' ?

expatinscotland · 03/10/2008 23:41

henry was not at anne's execution.

he did, however, hire a French swordsman to get her head up. for some exorbitant sum like 20 quid or that.

a scaffold for her execution was erected before her room, and the workmen stayed up all night to finish it.

only for her to be told the executioner had been delayed coming into London by muddy roads, so she had to wait another day.

henry could not stand being around death. it freaked him out.

he couldn't stand to stay around when jane seymour was dying, even though her death was inevitable.

now did he witness katherine howard's demise.

after anne's death, he never mentioned her again as long as he lived.

cornsilk · 03/10/2008 23:43

I really liked this Anne

wessexgirl · 03/10/2008 23:43

"I have but a little neck" is well documented.

Poor cow .

twinsetandpearls · 03/10/2008 23:43
