Ok so it's coming to an end tonight on FX and no one knows where that is BUT have been merrily one-clicking on Amazon and boxed sets arriving on door mat (sorry no xmas prezzies for anyone this year).
Finished series 3 last night and due to various plans dp and me not in front of TV together till Thursday.
How will I get through?
It is SO unbelievably brilliant I urge all of you to bankrupt yourselves immediately and watch it.
Then can we talk?

Major Colvin

Aitch · 22/09/2008 21:21

ah, major colvin. love him. you know his moustachioed sergeant was teh chief of baltimore pohleece in rl?

noonki · 22/09/2008 21:23

sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit I'm glad to here that scummy!

oh major colvin is so fantastic, by the end of series four I loved him

I think they way they play out possible suggestions to help the problem is such an interesting take for a tv programme to take.

and they think 'outside the box!'

Habbibu · 22/09/2008 21:28

Aitch, have you seen Engrenages? Not in the same league as the Wire, but v v good.

Aitch · 22/09/2008 21:33

ah no, not the dvd extras. we rip em off t'internet so they look tivo'd. my boss interviewed david simon, he got all the weirdy casting goss.

Aitch · 22/09/2008 21:33

is it from abroad, habbibu?

Habbibu · 22/09/2008 21:36

Aye, it be 'forrin. French, they do say. second series on BBC 4 this autumn. It's really quite splendid. It's been so long since the first series they ought to do a catch-up, mind.

Habbibu · 22/09/2008 21:38

And if I was being less of a ponce I'd have called it Spiral - friend tells me that's a rubbish and inappropriate translation, however. I guess you can blame the BBC for that. Like the David Simon connection - ver' swish. No chance of you lining up any interviews with Wire cast? Obv not in the near future...

Clayhead · 22/09/2008 22:25

Carver is my all time favourite. Soooooo attractive and great character development over all five series.

He was on Radio 5 recently and sounded as good as he looks.

Mercedes · 23/09/2008 09:36

Series 5 arrived last night from Amazon - we are wire fanatics in our household. My poor dd asked us at the week-end why we always tlak about the wire
we're now in the throes of organising our life so we watch it undisturbed.

cyteen · 23/09/2008 11:03

where is the love for drunk Bunk, people? surely one of the greatest characters of all time

I love Cedric Daniels as well, the way he always looks like there's a short-fused rocket up his arse. His "Dope...on the table?" incredulous face is priceless.

noonki · 23/09/2008 18:07

Ohh I too love Bunk

and mercedes I am going off in a sulk through jealousy! ( though guess you won't notice as you will have eyes glued to a different screen!)

Combustiblelemon · 23/09/2008 18:21

I've already watched series five on DVD because I chose not to sleep I had some spare time. I'm that there's no more.

bossykate · 23/09/2008 18:29

ooh we have just started with the wire - dh ordered s1&2 from amazon. dominic west is absolutely my ideal looks wise. his american accent is a bit ropey though! so far i am liking daniels, lester and d'.

Combustiblelemon · 23/09/2008 18:49

Does anyone else find it weird that the actor playing the councilman in the later series is the man who played Stuart Allen Jones in Queer As Folk (Russel T. Davies thing from 1990's)

OMaLittle · 23/09/2008 18:56

In answer to the OP, just look at my name...

About to buy season 5 but am hesitating because I know it will then be over [sob]. We did start watching it on FX but having done first four on DVD it was just too much having to tolerate ads (and not being able to rewind).

ladystardust · 23/09/2008 19:04

Have grown to adore Bunk
Don't want to give anything away but did anyone notice a certain character drinking and laughing in the background at the gay bar..?? (series 3)
(This may crop up later or it may be a throw away - I don't know yet...)

Combustiblelemon · 23/09/2008 19:07

Yes ladystardust.

ladystardust · 23/09/2008 19:08

Oh but Bubbles is my absolute favourite!

OP posts:
ladystardust · 23/09/2008 19:08

Yes as in noticed or yes as in crops up later?
no don't tell me!

OP posts:
littlerach · 23/09/2008 19:09

Ladystardust, yes, but notjing ever came of it.

I tell you, watch The Corner next.
Think the Wire was based on it, it is good, but harrowing.

And The Shield. Brilliant.

bossykate · 23/09/2008 19:09

oh who who?

ladystardust · 23/09/2008 19:11

Series 3
that's all I'm saying.
It's SOOOO good.
