None of them do. Ok, almost none of them do. These celebrities are usually self-centred bellends. This show has highlighted it very well. I suppose they wouldn't do the job they do, if they weren't.

The prize money going to charity is only incidental, though! It’s to try to have the celebrity version relocate as far as possible the normal version, otherwise there would ve no reason to have missions to build a prize pot. It’s not a fundraising show, or a show for charity, it’s a light entertainment programme which casts people who by and large work in the entertainment industry, for whom it is another paying gig, albeit a bit different to the usual.

Well, quite. And I'd be very interested to know from the naysayers on this thread what proportion of their earnings they donate to charity, whether they are a trustee or a patron of a charity, whether they actively fundraise for their chosen charity, whether they volunteer to man fundraising stalls or in charity shops, and whether, if they decided to raise money by doing (for instance) the London Marathon, just how bad they'd feel if they had to pull out before the end.

In which case they shouldn't be 'using' charities at all. Or the 'winner/s - give money to a charity announced at the end.

Also, Hannah Fry (who is great) didn’t indulge in any false modesty when it was frequently suggested she’d have been quickly recruited as a Traitor on account of her intelligence. In fact she pretty much said the same herself and I don’t think there was much criticism on the thread about that.
I find it a refreshing change when a woman is upfront and unapologetic about her brains!

Me too!

I wasn’t criticising her, it was more an observation that this was acceptable to everyone whereas a man acknowledging his status has wound people up.

Jimsaidpeoplearestrange · Yesterday 16:10

I really want Romesh to win. I hope Maya doesn't as she has been such a boring traitor.
she did make me laugh yesterday, her face when MS was droning on about how he has single handily caught James A....

RoxieLoxy · Yesterday 16:13

Lottapianos · Yesterday 13:10

'James A had no way of knowing that he wouldn’t cope - unless he’d been on the show before, impossible for him to predict'

That's not true though. We could all have an educated guess at how we would cope in the castle. I would never go on the Traitors - I don't like games, I'm shit at strategy and I would go mad with stress after about 2 days whether I was a T or a F. Absolutely love watching it, couldn't play it. He should have known that becoming a Traitor was a possibility, and that he would have found that incredibly stressful, and given the show a miss

But unless he is extremely dishonest and just went on for the money (no evidence that was the case), he clearly didn’t know. No one would put themselves through panic attacks if they knew that was going to happen.

You may have known you wouldn’t cope, he didn’t.

Namechangewegovyjune26 · Yesterday 16:14

CaveMum · Yesterday 09:45

I wouldn’t read too much into James A not being on Uncloaked - Rob Beckett wasn’t either (they said he had a prior commitment).

The “sensible” way for this all to play out now is:

Murder Michael
Banish Maya
Then I suspect James B and Leigh-Anne will get banished, so it will come down to whether Bash and Romesh trust Kenny.

The spanner in the works would be if a Kenny decides to try and defend Maya as that will look suspicious when she has so much heat on her.

I maintain though that there is no good reason to end the game when three people are left - theres always a chance theres a Traitor left and besides, better to split the money between 2 than 3. To me it is Traitorous behaviour to vote to end when there are 3 players left. That’s why the ending of S2 annoyed me so much - Molly should have realised Jaz was Faithful simply because he voted to banish again!

Yep and Joe L was barely on it due to his pub show filming.

MerryAquaKoala · Yesterday 16:03

But all celebrity versions of tv game/quiz shows with a monetary prize get their contestants to each nominate a charity before it starts. Traitors is no different in that respect.

lettingthedaysgoby · Yesterday 16:43

The thing I like most about Celeb Traitors (and Taskmaster, for that matter) is that the celebs taking part reveal themselves as the people they really are - they cannot keep up a character or persona (see Richard Ayoade on the current Taskmaster slowly losing his adopted character, for instance).

I am sure James A thought he knew what he was getting into - he may have (slightly arrogantly) thought that he could say he would only be a faithful and that would be it.

Whatever, the thing is that no two series (of both shows) are the same - it would be boring if they were. It's seeing how it unravels (literally in this case) which is the entertainment.

bardabunga · Yesterday 16:48

@lettingthedaysgoby I agree, and it's one reason why people assume actors are going to be good at being a Traitor, when they invariably turn out to be rubbish. Actors are good at playing a character when they have a script to follow.

FalconHonour33 · Yesterday 16:53

Well, I didn't see James A going like that, but it might just have saved Maya. If she and Kenny murder Michael, then I'm not sure James Blunt has quite the stranglehold on the other faithfuls that he does. I could see Kenny managing to deflect enough heat away from him and Maya that at least one of them wins.

On balance, after this series, I think I prefer Celeb Traitors to normal Traitors. The fact that some of them know each other and no one is trying to hide who they are (other than the obvious) makes for more entertaining dynamics...

If an activity for charity like one of these involved me doing something I was fairly sure I couldn't do – let's say running a marathon – I would not sign up to it, get people on board/have people expecting me to turn up, and then quit early/underperform. Because I know I'd feel awful if I did have to pull out before the end and leave the charity up a gum tree.
James A, knowing he would not want/be able to be a traitor, nonetheless signed up for the show also knowing it wasn't 100% guaranteed that he wouldn't have to be one.

He didn't know he'd have a panic attack, but he DID know it was possible that he might have to play as a traitor.

I don't remember people saying 'why are you still here' very much. Maybe to Stephen Fry? Who also got sucked up to something chronic, and liked to sit with a faux-modest face on while people told him how clever he was. And who was also, as far as I remember, confidently wrong about everything. And who is also a white male...

White , middle/ upper class male and people automatically assume you are intelligent.
Really pisses me off

James A and Maya - If you are going to be a traitor , it would be great if they would both remember that there is a second T in the word traitor . Kenny is the only traitor who pronounced that second T

HeinousBeaker · Yesterday 17:07

I fell off the thread as we were away for half term. All caught up now. WTF James. Excited for tonight!

ithinkthereforeyouarewrong · Yesterday 17:14

CaveMum · Yesterday 13:17

I said it on a previous thread, we need an All Stars Traitors, made up entirely of previous Traitors! Perhaps they should do it instead of Celeb Traitors next year for a break.

So that would be:

Alyssa
Amanda
Wilf
Kieron
Ash
Harry
Paul
Miles
Andrew
Ross
Armani
Linda
Minah
Charlotte
Freddie
Hugo
Rachel
Stephen
Fiona

<evil laugh>

Please let this happen 🙏🏻

Missingducks · Yesterday 17:15

Is anyone else getting peeved at Maya saying 'Trai er' every 30 seconds with absolutely no sign of the second T? I mean occasionally it's fine but not every single time when her accent otherwise isn't pure mockney. I am going to banish her for that reason alone.

Not that any of the celebs have asked me for advice.

PuppyMonkey · Yesterday 17:19

Checking in now and Grin at everyone still frothing about James A. I know some think he ruined the show but I feel like the series would have been very unmemorable without him doing what he did last night. Crap Faithfuls this year and even crapper Traitors - and I’m talking about Maya and Kenny not James A. Kenny voting for Sharon when he has the double note. FFS. It was so stupid I think it must have been staged. And Maya was just so dull. I think on balance, I’ll be happy if Romesh wins and I don’t care one way or the other about anyone else.

GunnelVallquist · Yesterday 17:28

Been lurking on here since it started and just wanted to say that whatever happens tonight, I hope people lay off James A.

I honestly don’t think he meant to sabotage the game; he has looked quite uncomfortable for a while.

He is quoted in Radio Times as saying outing himself as a Traitor was always his plan. So I don't buy that. Sorry.

I take it more as her Bristol accent coming out!

Somebody had to go anyway so it might as well have been him. I don't see the problem. It makes no difference to the amount given to charity whether the Faithfuls choose a random to banish or a Traitor outs himself.
