'He was self-congratulatory when Romesh said he couldn't believe he (Michael) was still in when he's so smart, when actually he's been kept in because he's always been wrong!'

I've quite enjoyed Michael and think he's played well, but I have been chuckling every time he says 'yeah I don't know why I'm still here'. Sounds like the subtext is 'coz I'm so brilliant and everything ' even though he has been totally clueless until last night 🤣

Yes, Leanne from season 3 was just awful and very nasty. So very nice to see Alexander on Uncloaked the other night 😉

Yes, but it gets said by literally everyone on every series — no one wants to say ‘Clearly I’m perceived as too dumb to be a threat!’

I don't remember people saying 'why are you still here' very much. Maybe to Stephen Fry? Who also got sucked up to something chronic, and liked to sit with a faux-modest face on while people told him how clever he was. And who was also, as far as I remember, confidently wrong about everything. And who is also a white male...

Mollie in S 2 constantly said " I have done really well to get to the end". Many others have too.

It’s usually people saying it about themselves. And the variant ‘Oh, I must have been kept in because a traitor is protecting me!’

That's her saying it though. I'm talking about people falling over themselves to congratulate certain players on how smart they are.
It is true Claudia pushes that narrative by telling faithfuls in the endgame how brilliant they've been to get there, when of course the sad truth is that it's the useful idiots who make it that far.

MellowSubmarine · Yesterday 12:54

Yes. Nothing ableist about that. Anyone fragile or with poor MH for whatever reason should not be cast.
It beggars belief that 2 out of 5 Traitors outed themselves!

It is ableist to suggest it as a blanket rule rather than considering invidious circumstances. As an example, you’re saying Stephen Fry (who has bipolar) should have been automatically disqualified from taking part, even though as far as we know there is no reason to suggest he had any issues with it?

He's recovered now. If he was in a bad way as in the past, of course he should be barred. Just like Ariana Grande should not be recruited now, though she could have been in the past. For her own good as well.

But certainly people who say clearly that they cannot and will not lie should be excluded. Everyone who goes on a show called Traitors should be prepared to lie and deceive. Just like anyone who goes on Strictly must be prepared to dance!

I felt for James A, I was actually getting frustrated with him for now speaking up, however he clearly looked like he was struggling with the process and being neurodiverse probably played a part in that. We can say he knew what he was getting into when he signed up but that doesn’t mean it will be easy. I actually really enjoyed this episode, from Romesh being unable to contain his giggles, Claudia struggling to stay composed and and ending with James we never saw coming. At the end of the day it’s a gameshow, it’s edited for entertainment but I really hope James is ok.

I agree. I said this last night but for me it was the best episode yet!! Seems we all either loved it or hated it 🤣 James A had no way of knowing that he wouldn’t cope - unless he’d been on the show before, impossible for him to predict. I love how different this series has been from the last. I also really like Michael now (wasn’t sure last week). I think it’s been a brilliantly different series. Especially loved Miranda and Romesh.

Re the editing - when Maya said at breakfast something about ‘let’s kill them’ and then said ‘banish them even’ - I think there was a long pause added in between and zooming in on people’s expressions to make it look like it had been noticed. Clearly no one noticed in reality.

happinessischocolate · Yesterday 13:01

I think Michael has immersed himself in it a bit too much and now believes that he really is a faithful and the traitors genuinely murder 😂

Maya’s comment of “see you on the other side” indicates to me he’s definitely going tonight.

i hope David Tennant is taking the piss out of him for getting it all so wrong for so long 😂

happinessischocolate · Yesterday 13:04

If love either Kenny to take the win or for Rom and James Blunt to split the pot. They may have been crap traitor hunters but they’ve been hilarious

Lottapianos · Yesterday 13:10

'James A had no way of knowing that he wouldn’t cope - unless he’d been on the show before, impossible for him to predict'

That's not true though. We could all have an educated guess at how we would cope in the castle. I would never go on the Traitors - I don't like games, I'm shit at strategy and I would go mad with stress after about 2 days whether I was a T or a F. Absolutely love watching it, couldn't play it. He should have known that becoming a Traitor was a possibility, and that he would have found that incredibly stressful, and given the show a miss

skylarkrise · Yesterday 13:11

Will there be a murder before next episode or are the faithfuls spared because they ousted a traitor (I know they didn’t really)

ithinkthereforeyouarewrong · Yesterday 13:12

What a mad episode. I don’t get why James confessed? He could have blundered his answers and left them thinking he was a traitor.
it’s been a poor show on the faithfuls side this year, 2 confessions and only 1 traitor actually found.
I do think it will still be a traitor win I think Kenny will keep them duped.

Yes. One last murder.

CaveMum · Yesterday 13:17

I said it on a previous thread, we need an All Stars Traitors, made up entirely of previous Traitors! Perhaps they should do it instead of Celeb Traitors next year for a break.

So that would be:

Alyssa
Amanda
Wilf
Kieron
Ash
Harry
Paul
Miles
Andrew
Ross
Armani
Linda
Minah
Charlotte
Freddie
Hugo
Rachel
Stephen
Fiona

I loved the ending with Maya and Michael.

“See you on the other side!”

He’s a dead man walking and she wanted him to know it!

I really dont get the Michael bashing from some posters on this thread. He has played a great game, quiet at the beginning and then gradually becoming more dominant. Ok so most of his theories have been wrong but so have most other people's as well. I dont see any of the misogyny or other accusations that people have been flinging around. I'd like Romesh or James B to win as they've been funny and entertaining, but I wouldn't mind if Michael won. Or Kenny for that matter.

I agree 100% with you

I agree, I think the contestants go into the castle assuming that they will only be chosen to be a Traitor if they've strongly declared that's what they want to be. In fact there was a whole programme on i player dedicated to it. Even Hannah said that she'd created spreadsheets, had a notebook with equations in it but the one situation she hadn't anticipated was being recruited.

James A was put in an awful position from the beginning, either he faced going out first or being recruited.

Ed Gamble said something early on about saying to James A 'see you tomorrow' as a joke but maybe that made James think that he had no choice but to try and stay. And then he was stuck really. I felt sorry for him and Hannah, they both wanted the challenge of tracking down Traitors and neither got to do that.

I think in future they'll get fewer people wanting to take part who purely want to be faithfuls which is maybe a good thing. As pps have said, former Traitors like Jonathan Ross and Alan Carr have said that it's not actually as enjoyable as they thought it would be.

GobbolinoAndSootica · Yesterday 13:25

According to the article I read about the "unnamed celebrity" who accused the producers of being like human traffickers, the cast have 24 hour access to a dedicated welfare team.

As he's an adult, I doubt they could intervene until James A requested it. Even if they could, how would they know - his whole comedic personality is him being stressed out and panicked.

I hope so - it’s crazy if they don’t kill off Michael!

Gloriia · Yesterday 13:27

What was Acaster thinking, fgs it's supposed to be entertainment. They've been a right hopeless bunch from REG to wet James A last night.

I cannot believe what a load of po faced ninnies they've been this series. What with the sad faced 'sorryyyy' when voting to banish to the mind numbing umming and ahhing based on absolutely nothing. Sheen and James Blunt the only ones worth watching.

The production team need to up their game re missions and they need to tell next celebs it's supposed to be fun, supposed to be a game and to get with it a bit!

This would be an amazing idea & I’d include the celeb traitors too (if they were up for it)!
