I also worry that Bethany and Nancy will be at a disadvantage as the competition progresses as without a male it is possible that there won’t be any stand-out lifts in the same way there is in the other couples where the men are literally just throwing the women around all over the place. Explosive show-stopping lifts do add something extra to the dance and I worry that it’s an ‘edge’ that Bethany and Nancy won’t be able to provide which may make their dances less memorable to the public. I hope they manage to find a way around this though and find their own way to provide that extra sparkle and wow-factor.

Possibly. But Rose and Giovanni (for one, off the top of my head) didn't always do loads of spectacular lifts; I remember thinking their show dance in the final was underwhelming (not only because of the lack of lifts, but it was one reason).
Personally I don't especially like lots of lifts, and I certainly don't think a dance is better just because it contains them. It also annoys me how the studio audience is clearly told to clap and whoop every time someone does one.

I think the wardrobe direction & fact they did Movies Week & Icons etc so soon is to try & appeal to a more social media format & :demographic. It’s about spectacle & how it might look not about the dancing now. (Although ofc it’s always been primarily an entertainment show). I may be wrong but have they always mentioned constantly where you can check more out on socials? Like the main presenters are including checking it out on blah more? I know it has to move with the times but it’s just looking a bit desperate. I wonder what the yoof do think of it - if any of them actually watch it?!

No, it's relatively new, I think.
I'm not sure it's about attracting the yoof as such; older people use social media too and, as you say, they're trying to make Strictly 'fit in' to a social media format, not just a demographic.

Sadfrog · 20/10/2026 14:53

@AlwaysExtraHot fair point & true socials aren’t solely the preserve of the yoof. And I thought I was up for the change & refresh!

Well, there's change and change! I don't love it – I miss Claudia – but I like Emma and I skip all the skits and gubbins.
I've railed for years about things like them having fewer pro ballroom dances, using too much modern shite music, mixing up the dances rather than everyone doing the same ones, score inflation, judges getting too carried away with being 'personalities' etc. But here I am still watching it! I guess it must still have some heart.

awaynboilyurheid · 20/10/2026 17:37

Just lacking something this year, maybe it’s Lewis Cope’s absence lol
I agree with others who say they wouldn’t have missed it in the past but while still watching I’m not so bothered now.
Sara right time to go, a bit stiff and Julian’s Choreography is a bit boring at times.
Katya and Lauren are my favs pros but Jowitas aeroplane lift was spectacular
If you look at Faye Tozer and Giovannis dances or with Georgia May Foote they were amazing! Just a bit bland for me this year.

The strange thing is , when you see the costumes on the mannequins with the costume lady on Thursday they look great , but once it gets to Saturday night it seems to change or not look as good!

Thanks for new thread @EineReiseDurchDieZeit

Anyone think they’re trying to make Shaun have the underdog narrative?

I wondered that.

Watched ITT tonight for the first time this series; I thought it was great, the new set is a huge improvement and Ellie seems very at home in the role. ITT used to be a must watch for me back in the day, but I lost interest a few seasons ago. Was good to see it on form again.

Yes feel the same. I tried not to miss it in the past. No big deal to miss it now. Kind of sad really, but true.

the80sweregreat · 20/10/2026 19:48

Ellie is like Emma , a natural.

News that Bethany and Nancy are dancing - Argentine Tango - to Harrison’s All the things she said (from Heated Rivalry) is amazing news. Amber and Pasha danced to this in DWTS is Sept and it got a massive public vote - the Heated Rivalry fandom is very passionate about this song / same sex couple - I can’t wait.

Onmysecondcoffeealready · 20/10/2026 20:03

Instead of a Halloween episode I just want Lewis and Katya to do their dance again. Nothing will be as good.

And also if the judges can stop rummaging for a scoring paddle out of a lucky dip bag, and actually link the scores to the performances, that would be nice 🙃

the80sweregreat · 20/10/2026 20:06

Lewis and Katya’s Halloween one was fab wasn’t it.
So good.
