ITV has announced the release date for its highly-anticipated drama The Party, a five-part series based on Elizabeth Day's 2017 novel of the same name that boasts a starry cast.

Adapted for the screen by Chivalry's Sarah Solemani (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr1jEd), the show follows decades-long friends Ben, who is working class, and Martin, who is wealthy.

The Party is a glossy, five-part adaptation of Elizabeth Day’s bestselling novel. Produced by World Productions—the powerhouse team behind Line of Duty and Vigil—the series dives into the dark, intoxicating world of political ambition, old money, class hierarchy, and long-buried secrets.

WHAT IS THE PARTY ABOUT?
The series spans three decades, focusing on the intense, complicated bond between Martin (Luke Evans) and Ben (Tom Cullen).

Raised by his working-class single mother, Sylvia (Joanna Scanlan), Martin secures a scholarship to an elite public boarding school where he meets Ben.

Welcomed into Ben’s aristocratic family—the Fitzmaurices—Martin finds the sense of belonging he has always craved.

In return, Martin develops a fierce, unwavering devotion to Ben through life’s greatest crises.

Thirty years later, Martin attends a lavish birthday party hosted at the Fitzmaurice country estate.

The event is thrown into spin when news breaks that the Conservative Prime Minister has resigned, prompting Ben to consider launching his own leadership bid.

Fearing the intense spotlight of a high-profile political campaign, Martin panics that secrets from their past will be exposed—setting off a chain reaction with tragic consequences.

The narrative moves between the shocking events at the country estate, the tense police investigation that follows, and flashbacks to Martin and Ben’s school, university, and wild London party years.

STAR-STUDDED CAST: WHERE HAVE YOU SEEN THEM BEFORE?
The Party features an ensemble cast nblending Hollywood heavyweights with UK TV royalty:

• Luke Evans as Martin Gilmour: The Welsh star leads the series as Martin. Evans is best known globally for his roles as Bard the Bowman in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, Gaston in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast, and Owen Shaw in the Fast & Furious franchise, alongside acclaimed TV roles in Nine Perfect Strangers, The Pembrokeshire Murders, and The Alienist.

• Tom Cullen as Ben Fitzmaurice: Playing the charismatic political candidate, Cullen famously starred as Viscount Gillingham in Downton Abbey and lead roles in The Gold, Knightfall, and the indie film Weekend.

• Joanna Scanlan as Sylvia Gilmour:Playing Martin’s mother, BAFTA-winner Scanlan is renowned for her performances in After Love, The Thick of It, No Offence, and Getting On.

• Sarah Solemani as Lucy Gilmour: The show’s creator and writer also stars as Martin’s pregnant wife. Viewers will recognize Solemani from Bridget Jones’s Baby, Him & Her, Bad Education, and Chivalry.

• Lydia Leonard as Serena Fitzmaurice:Playing Ben’s formidable wife, Leonard’s credits include Gentleman Jack, Wolf Hall, The Crown, and Ten Percent.

• Lindsay Duncan & Douglas Hodge as Lord George & Lady Katherine Fitzmaurice: Playing Ben’s aristocratic parents, Lindsay Duncan (The Morning Show, His Dark Materials, About Time) and Tony Award winner Douglas Hodge (The Night Manager, I Hate Suzie Too, Joker) bring serious weight to the matriarch and patriarch roles.

• Supporting Cast: The ensemble includes Sam Troughton (Chernobyl, Lockerbie), Sally Scott (Black Doves), Sinéad Matthews (Hullraisers), Bally Gill (Slow Horses), Amaka Okafor (Secret Service), and Rakie Ayola (The Pact).

WHERE WAS THE PARTY FILMED?
Principal photography took place across South Wales, doubling for elite boarding schools, grand English country estates, and urban London settings.

Martin invites Ben to his birthday party, where he outlines his intention to run for leader of the Conservative Party. Things soon get out of hand, there's a gunshot, and the police get involved. But what exactly went down?

The Party is going to kick off on Sunday, 11 October with the second and third episodes going out on Monday, 12 October and Tuesday, 13 October, respectively etc to Thur

Well I have no idea why he would go along with that?

Kipperandarthur · 12/10/2026 22:00

The best bit of the episode was the ending even though it had become obvious that he was going to be the fall guy.

It’s just so slow and plodding.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2026 22:28

Why on earth would he do that - or he did it as loved him

and that’s why their mum hates Martin as she thinks killed Phoebe in the car crash

wouldn’t it be obv who was driving by the seatbelt and steering wheel marks on Ben as the driver

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2026 22:33

or they covered that up with money and with pa pressuring Martin

so dad knew it was Ben but not mummies that right ?

they haven’t taken care of him tho have they

OP posts:
boxofcrap · 13/10/2026 06:44

The dad orchestrated it, the mum doesn’t know.

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2026 07:11

Why would they invite the man who was drink driving and think killed their daughter to the party ?
I know it wasn’t him , but the mum thinks it was

I know it wasn’t him , but the mum thinks it was

Because they were still friends

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2026 07:42

If someone did that to one of my children I wouldn’t want to see them around at all.
I know it’s more complicated than that here.

boxofcrap · 13/10/2026 07:57

Well yes but it was the sons 40th

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2026 08:18

I still wouldn’t want Martin anywhere near me if I thought he had killed my daughter and only got two years for drunk driving!

boxofcrap · 13/10/2026 08:21

I think we are meant to see that posh people are a different breed; the wife not waiting an ambulance out front, etc

Maybe the dad insisted tho thinking about it. Was dad at party or has dad died as well

yes the mum prob didn’t want him there but if her son insisted and maybe feels guilty and so he should

I'll try and catch up on this

NewAgeNewMe · 13/10/2026 16:27

I’ve just tried episode 2. I couldn’t concentrate on it. Not the program fault but me I think and medication. So have deleted it. Too much going back and forwarded and I’m not keen on the characters particularly. Though I do feel sorry for Martin as he’s been used.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/10/2026 17:11

Yes, it is obvious if not MARTIN

So was it JARVIS or maybe even then shot himself?

But the reason so far we don’t know is why he got shot

I've only watched the first episode so far, seems I've missed a lot !

It’s called shagging or fucking where I’m from, but OK.

Anyway I quite enjoyed the first episode but I’m getting annoyed with writers ripping off the Big Little Lies structure.

Not a Derry girls fan?!

Villagetoraiseachild · 13/10/2026 18:21

What an exciting thread, mnhq interventions and all!

I felt ep 2 was more of an improvement, more engaging.
When the lads had their play fight what did posh boy have in his pocket that was a gift for Martin that Martin didn't want? Was it some kind of trinket with Phoebe's s hair in it? Posh boy is obviously riddled with guilt about what happened.
I can't imagine what more there can be for another three eps! Tho it's looking like Martin has been set up/framed again.

The circus going on behind them all is fascinating me! How do people walk on stilts when I can’t even wear wedge heel shoes or any high heels ?
