ITV has announced the release date for its highly-anticipated drama The Party, a five-part series based on Elizabeth Day's 2017 novel of the same name that boasts a starry cast.

Adapted for the screen by Chivalry's Sarah Solemani (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr1jEd), the show follows decades-long friends Ben, who is working class, and Martin, who is wealthy.

The Party is a glossy, five-part adaptation of Elizabeth Day’s bestselling novel. Produced by World Productions—the powerhouse team behind Line of Duty and Vigil—the series dives into the dark, intoxicating world of political ambition, old money, class hierarchy, and long-buried secrets.

WHAT IS THE PARTY ABOUT?
The series spans three decades, focusing on the intense, complicated bond between Martin (Luke Evans) and Ben (Tom Cullen).

Raised by his working-class single mother, Sylvia (Joanna Scanlan), Martin secures a scholarship to an elite public boarding school where he meets Ben.

Welcomed into Ben’s aristocratic family—the Fitzmaurices—Martin finds the sense of belonging he has always craved.

In return, Martin develops a fierce, unwavering devotion to Ben through life’s greatest crises.

Thirty years later, Martin attends a lavish birthday party hosted at the Fitzmaurice country estate.

The event is thrown into spin when news breaks that the Conservative Prime Minister has resigned, prompting Ben to consider launching his own leadership bid.

Fearing the intense spotlight of a high-profile political campaign, Martin panics that secrets from their past will be exposed—setting off a chain reaction with tragic consequences.

The narrative moves between the shocking events at the country estate, the tense police investigation that follows, and flashbacks to Martin and Ben’s school, university, and wild London party years.

STAR-STUDDED CAST: WHERE HAVE YOU SEEN THEM BEFORE?
The Party features an ensemble cast nblending Hollywood heavyweights with UK TV royalty:

• Luke Evans as Martin Gilmour: The Welsh star leads the series as Martin. Evans is best known globally for his roles as Bard the Bowman in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, Gaston in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast, and Owen Shaw in the Fast & Furious franchise, alongside acclaimed TV roles in Nine Perfect Strangers, The Pembrokeshire Murders, and The Alienist.

• Tom Cullen as Ben Fitzmaurice: Playing the charismatic political candidate, Cullen famously starred as Viscount Gillingham in Downton Abbey and lead roles in The Gold, Knightfall, and the indie film Weekend.

• Joanna Scanlan as Sylvia Gilmour:Playing Martin’s mother, BAFTA-winner Scanlan is renowned for her performances in After Love, The Thick of It, No Offence, and Getting On.

• Sarah Solemani as Lucy Gilmour: The show’s creator and writer also stars as Martin’s pregnant wife. Viewers will recognize Solemani from Bridget Jones’s Baby, Him & Her, Bad Education, and Chivalry.

• Lydia Leonard as Serena Fitzmaurice:Playing Ben’s formidable wife, Leonard’s credits include Gentleman Jack, Wolf Hall, The Crown, and Ten Percent.

• Lindsay Duncan & Douglas Hodge as Lord George & Lady Katherine Fitzmaurice: Playing Ben’s aristocratic parents, Lindsay Duncan (The Morning Show, His Dark Materials, About Time) and Tony Award winner Douglas Hodge (The Night Manager, I Hate Suzie Too, Joker) bring serious weight to the matriarch and patriarch roles.

• Supporting Cast: The ensemble includes Sam Troughton (Chernobyl, Lockerbie), Sally Scott (Black Doves), Sinéad Matthews (Hullraisers), Bally Gill (Slow Horses), Amaka Okafor (Secret Service), and Rakie Ayola (The Pact).

WHERE WAS THE PARTY FILMED?
Principal photography took place across South Wales, doubling for elite boarding schools, grand English country estates, and urban London settings.

Martin invites Ben to his birthday party, where he outlines his intention to run for leader of the Conservative Party. Things soon get out of hand, there's a gunshot, and the police get involved. But what exactly went down?

The Party is going to kick off on Sunday, 11 October with the second and third episodes going out on Monday, 12 October and Tuesday, 13 October, respectively etc to Thur

I'm loving this it's such a good story with so many twists and turns!

Banjas · 19/10/2026 09:05

I’m catching up on this so just watched Episode 1.
Unfortunately the subtitles and speech didn’t match so I found it very difficult to follow.🙄
Hopefully Episode 2 will have matching speech and subtitles.

Oh. You never know. She may shoot him tomorow and blame his friend

😆

Maybe the dad does it somehow, despite his current condition, because he’s raging that all his political ambitions for his son won’t become a reality now after all his scheming and manipulation and big payouts.

I would hate to live in the world these people inhabit!

Villagetoraiseachild · 19/10/2026 17:20

The wheels have truly come off the 🚌.
Any more murky secrets to come out?

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2026 19:15

I will be watching, but I really do feel this has been stretch out so much.
It would have had more impact if it hadn't plodded along at such a slow pace.

There have been sooooo many unnecessary dragged out segments of the ruddy party itself.

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 19/10/2026 19:43

Last episode at 9pm tonight!

JaneJeffer · 19/10/2026 21:14

Where did Martin get the gun?

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2026 21:14

Ha. Knew it. I was right

Rarely happens so I can be smug when it does 😂

They need to get Winter on the case

JaneJeffer · 19/10/2026 21:21

Wow Serena

JaneJeffer · 19/10/2026 21:35

I hope Lucy has got some decent support while all this is going on

the80sweregreat · 19/10/2026 21:39

Poor Lucy.
That’s a long list of caring duties , round the clock.
So daunting.

JaneJeffer · 19/10/2026 21:47

I don’t think Serena is the caring type Grin

JenniferBooth · 19/10/2026 21:50

I don’t think Serena is the caring type Grin

Shes not but the nurse basically saying to her that she would need to be awake 24/7 is unrealistic and stupid. People have had it said to them IRL though You only need to read the elderly parents board.

JaneJeffer · 19/10/2026 22:04

There’s nothing like an ITV drama to make you feel you’ve wasted hours of your life. Still at least the acting was good.

Kipperandarthur · 19/10/2026 22:08

It was poor.

I lost interest , caught up a bit and then zoned out for the last part. Still hours wasted, but hey Ho!

the80sweregreat · 19/10/2026 22:10

I ended up looking up the cast as Lucy looked familiar and she was in ‘ him and her ‘ as her ! With the lovely Russell Tovey .

JaneJeffer · 19/10/2026 22:17

The Serena actress really reminds me of Gabby from Emmerdale especially when she’s brunette

Wow. So if he had died they would have tried to pin it on Richard due to the clause in Will

TimeforaGandT · 19/10/2026 22:41

Late to the comments - surely the police could have cleared Martin straightaway as he wouldn't have had any residue on his hands from when the gun fired and Ben would have?

the80sweregreat · 20/10/2026 01:40

What happened to the circus crowd ? Paid off and told to go home! Bet they were relived the party seemed to go on for days.

Villagetoraiseachild · 20/10/2026 17:04

I thought it was well made and the main characters credible. Glad I saw it. A good ending for Martin, he needed to have some well earned space from that family.
