ITV has announced the release date for its highly-anticipated drama The Party, a five-part series based on Elizabeth Day's 2017 novel of the same name that boasts a starry cast.

Adapted for the screen by Chivalry's Sarah Solemani (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a70049607/streaming-guide/?route=modal&sid=pr1jEd), the show follows decades-long friends Ben, who is working class, and Martin, who is wealthy.

The Party is a glossy, five-part adaptation of Elizabeth Day’s bestselling novel. Produced by World Productions—the powerhouse team behind Line of Duty and Vigil—the series dives into the dark, intoxicating world of political ambition, old money, class hierarchy, and long-buried secrets.

WHAT IS THE PARTY ABOUT?
The series spans three decades, focusing on the intense, complicated bond between Martin (Luke Evans) and Ben (Tom Cullen).

Raised by his working-class single mother, Sylvia (Joanna Scanlan), Martin secures a scholarship to an elite public boarding school where he meets Ben.

Welcomed into Ben’s aristocratic family—the Fitzmaurices—Martin finds the sense of belonging he has always craved.

In return, Martin develops a fierce, unwavering devotion to Ben through life’s greatest crises.

Thirty years later, Martin attends a lavish birthday party hosted at the Fitzmaurice country estate.

The event is thrown into spin when news breaks that the Conservative Prime Minister has resigned, prompting Ben to consider launching his own leadership bid.

Fearing the intense spotlight of a high-profile political campaign, Martin panics that secrets from their past will be exposed—setting off a chain reaction with tragic consequences.

The narrative moves between the shocking events at the country estate, the tense police investigation that follows, and flashbacks to Martin and Ben’s school, university, and wild London party years.

STAR-STUDDED CAST: WHERE HAVE YOU SEEN THEM BEFORE?
The Party features an ensemble cast nblending Hollywood heavyweights with UK TV royalty:

Will there be a series 2 of The Party?

Although ITV has not confirmed a series 2 of The Party, it is possible. After all, Elizabeth Day has written a sequel to the book The Party.

In One of Us, the author once again revisits the lives of Martin and Ben. A synopsis for the 2026 book tells us: “In this compulsive story of betrayal, old bonds and buried scandals, one British establishment family comes face to face with the consequences of privilege and the true cost of power.

I thought it was pretty good with some excellent acting and interesting themes. Not sure how the CPS was confident enough for an attempted murder charge though.

Emmerdale did a similar story in 2003 where the seatbelt mark was missed by the authorities!

I think I even commented on the episode when it happened but cba to scroll back

and driver will have steering wheel marks usually esp if no airbag

and if air bag then have marks from that

With the obvious seat belt injury thing - I got the impression that the authorities were encouraged by the wealthy, influential family to accept Martin’s confession, and that not much investigating actually took place. So, another example of the rich family being corrupt, which was one of the themes of the drama.
