Just watching now. The haircut is interesting

Piggywaspushed · 10/10/2026 16:19

That is very much an in vogue haircut for Gen Z currently.

I'm not clear what's wrong with a civil partnership?

The graveyard thing was a bit precious but he did seem genuinely perturbed.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/10/2026 16:38

Not so much what's wrong with a civil partnership, but what the point is. It was brought in for gay couples before they were able to marry, giving the same rights as if married. It was superseded by gay marriage and is no different for a straight couple than just getting married.

The only differences according to Google are that there are no vows / prescribed words and it isn't recognised in some countries.

The haircut is certainly an interesting choice, regardless as to whether it's popular with Gen Z! I doubt it flatters anyone.

I think they were LLL's version of the couples who go on A Place in the Sun with no intention of buying.

Piggywaspushed · 10/10/2026 18:16

It was challenged in the High Court if I remember rightly under the Equality Act so that straight people could also access it. Many gay people do still go for CPs.

It may not be very MN viewpoint but some couples are opposed to marriage viewing it as a dated institution.

we have a civil partnership- no idea people thought they were odd! It felt more equal and less burdened with history for me.

What do you mean by less burdened with history?

You can write your own 'vows' in a civil wedding, so there's no need to have the traditional ones which I imagine is what is considered patriarchal?

I didn't think that deeply about getting married, to be honest!

Piggywaspushed · 10/10/2026 18:36

Guess some people do! Marriage is in terminal decline in the UK.

devonshireduke · 10/10/2026 19:20

NoWordForFluffy · 10/10/2026 18:29

What do you mean by less burdened with history?

Well itโ€™s an institution that traditionally made women subordinate to men and treated women as property to give away for a start!

I don't think that's due to deep thought, to be honest. More that men can get what they want more easily without getting married these days! Spend a while on the relationship board and that much is very obvious.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2026 20:13

Tbh I find it weird to have a civil and not a marriage if not same sex

you wonโ€™t ever be husband and wife

so seems people do it for tax reasons rather then love

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 10/10/2026 20:15

Oh now come on blondes - plenty of people who have civil partnerships love each other deeply and plenty of people get married for practical reasons.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2026 20:37

But why choose a civil if not in same sex

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 10/10/2026 20:41

Same sex people can get married now !

This is really quite insulting and ignorant, I donโ€™t really know why youโ€™d be so rude.

circe94 · 11/10/2026 07:10

Can we get back to talking about houses? ๐Ÿ˜‚

Yes I know this. Thats why a civil marriage came about

It wasnโ€™t meant to be. I was reading the differences and why people choose it and it said in a civil you donโ€™t /cant call yourself husband and wife

Donโ€™t fret Blondes, you werenโ€™t rude.

Banjas · 11/10/2026 10:13

You are allowed have an opinion @Blondeshavemorefun

Piggywaspushed · 11/10/2026 10:18

I have no beef with blondes generally ever but someone on the thread said they were in a CP. Blondes then called a straight CP 'weird'. Maybe not rude but tone deaf. Anyhow, moving on!

devonshireduke · 11/10/2026 10:31

Banjas · 11/10/2026 10:13

Indeed

but donโ€™t belittle othersโ€™ choices by calling them weird and inferring they are only doing it for money

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/10/2026 11:59

Def didnโ€™t mean to be rude. After what I read when I googled - Iโ€™m intrigued why a diff sex couple would have a civil instead of a wedding

do they not want to be husband and wife and also some countries donโ€™t recognise it as a commitment

and the article said they do it for legal reasons often

Apologies, I didnโ€™t mean to derail the thread by mentioning the Civil Partnership angle ๐Ÿ˜

I found it unusual as CP were initially for same sex couples before the law changed in 2014 and we were given an equal footing in marriage. I married my wife after the law changed and would not have had a CP, quite clunky to call somebody a partner rather than wife in my opinion.

JacknDiane · 11/10/2026 22:38

I dont know why @Blondeshavemorefunis getting an arse kicking here. I called a cp bollocks and I stick by it. Either get married or dont, stop with the fannying about.
