ITV has picked up ‘The Rainmaker (https://www.geektown.co.uk/tvairdates/the-rainmaker/)’, the latest television adaptation of John Grisham’s bestselling legal thriller, with the ten-part drama coming to ITV1
The series follows Rudy Baylor, a freshly qualified lawyer who unexpectedly finds himself going head-to-head with courtroom heavyweight Leo Drummond.
Making matters even more complicated, Rudy’s law school girlfriend, Sarah, is working on the opposing side.
After joining forces with his unconventional new boss, Bruiser, and her rather dishevelled paralegal, Deck, Rudy begins investigating the mysterious death of a client’s son.
What initially appears to be a straightforward legal battle soon exposes two connected conspiracies, placing the inexperienced attorney against opponents with considerably more money, power and courtroom experience.
Milo Callaghan (Rivals, Dune: Prophecy) leads the cast as Rudy Baylor, alongside John Slattery(Mad Men, Spotlight) as Leo Drummond, Lana Parrilla (Once Upon a Time, Why Women Kill) as Bruiser Stone, Madison Iseman (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) as Sarah Plankmore and P.J. Byrne (The Boys, Big Little Lies) as Deck Shifflet.
The cast also includes Dan Fogler (The Walking Dead, Fantastic Beasts), Wade Briggs(Foundation, His Dark Materials) and Robyn Cara (Bodkin, Trying).
This is not the first time Grisham’s 1995 novel has made the leap to the screen. It was previously adapted into the 1997 film directed by Francis Ford Coppola, with Matt Damon playing Rudy alongside Danny DeVito, Claire Danes, Jon Voight and Mickey Rourke.
The television version gives the story considerably more room to breathe across ten episodes and was developed by Michael Seitzman (Code Black, Intelligence) and Jason Richman (Stumptown, Detroit 1-8-7). Seitzman also serves as showrunner.
