Beginning June 22nd. Anyone else watching?
It's been so long since S2 that I had to do a quick rewatch!
Can't wait for the Battle of the Gullet, but may also have to watch through my fingers. ( I read the book so am forewarned)

I watched it.
Anyone else? Am I really the only one?

We’ve been looking forward to it as well! Hopefully they have a recap at the start, don’t have time to rewatch the last two series!

ainsleysanob · 22/06/2026 16:15

Finished my rewatch of season 2 last night and will be watching S3 tonight!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 22/06/2026 16:20

Watching it later, possibly tomorrow but placemarking anyway

Lovewine1975 · 22/06/2026 17:12

I’m watching it in a bit, from what I’ve read the first episode is epic!

LobeliaBaggins · 22/06/2026 17:25

I will return to this thread later in the week and also add a spoiler warning.
There is much to discuss.

Really,I feel asleep watching, I was very tired though, is it worth a re watch? I thought it was quite meh.

Pabbel · 22/06/2026 22:27

Watched eps1 of series 3, good start.

Gizimajob · 23/06/2026 07:25

It was an excellent episode - although I can’t remember what’s happening!

LobeliaBaggins · 23/06/2026 07:33

I did not think it was excellent, and I will say why later.

Oh good, there’s a thread!

This is definitely a series that would benefit from binge watching - I enjoyed 3,1 but was distracted by constantly having to remind myself who people are and who they’re related / connected to.

Favourite bit was Rhaena Targaryen’s roast lamb feast. 😄

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 23/06/2026 09:16

The problem with series these days is there are so many of them and the gaps between them so long you forget who people are. The blonde antagonist on the boat for example, no idea!

Sharako Lohar, the captain of the triarchy fleet.
I did a rewatch of S 2. 😊

Cheers! But the name means absolutely nothing to me!

And I don’t think enough was said to explain who James Norton is, I do know who he is, but I think it’s not clearly presented

ScoutOfTheSoftHeartsClub · 23/06/2026 09:50

Don’t you just read every available review after you’ve watched an episode? (Google: House of the Dragon S3, Ep1 reviews.) Half a dozen of those tend to clarify everything for me.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 23/06/2026 12:50

@ScoutOfTheSoftHeartsClub I like Alt Shift X on YouTube for recap and reviews but his isn’t out yet

Lovewine1975 · 23/06/2026 13:31

I absolutely loved it, I haven't read the books so nothing to compare it to but it had me gripped, think this series is going to be wild!

Autoneutron · 23/06/2026 13:33

I really enjoyed this episode. Was nice to start with plenty of action. I liked Corlys and Alyn’s relationship building. Alicent was so stressed I actually felt sorry for her. Rhaenyra needs to go scorched earth now though. She’s been held back for too long.

Friendlygingercat · 23/06/2026 13:43

I just watched this episode. I lost track of the battles and who was supposed to be fighting who. But i liked the scene where the dragon shared its meal! Very civilised behaviour for a wild dragon.

ScoutOfTheSoftHeartsClub · 23/06/2026 13:47

That was what I meant, @Friendlygingercat! I hadn’t realised until the meal was ‘cooked’ that the cause of Rhaena’s wild desperation wasn’t just dragon training but actual starvation.

Wehaditsogood · 23/06/2026 20:28

I didn't expect Aemond and Alicent. 😲

James Norton is Alicent's cousin (I think), head of House Hightower. Alicent is originally a Hightower.

HollyGolightly4 · 23/06/2026 23:05

I thought it was not great. The acting from Allicent and Rahnera (sp) is wonderful, but it feels like there's too many characters and I don't care.

Wehaditsogood · 24/06/2026 11:57

I don't care about fight scenes, so it was pretty boring for me. I can't even remember the battles from the book.

latetothefisting · 25/06/2026 20:40

It suffered from the same issue as late seasons GOT - too much unnecessary deviation from the books (I know GOT couldn't exactly help that due to GRRM writing but they also said they added some things for shock value), and the creators of HOTD don't even have that excuse.

I don't get it - if you have something that is proven to be a winner why change it?
A very few things - Alicent and Rhaenyra being the same age and having a pre-existing relationship to raise the stakes - make slight sense but 99% of the changes just worsen the plot.

It's a pity because a lot of the actors are very good, but they are given some absolute dross to work with.

By contrast AKotSK stuck very faithfully to the source material and got rave reviews.

LobeliaBaggins · Today 10:46

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER. Read no further if you don't want to be spoiled.

I really hated this, especially as it took them two years to come up with! Deviates from the book in ways that make no sense.

Hated how Rhaenyra was reduced to a weak woman parroting Elizabeth the I, and being locked into her room by her mouthy teen son. WTF.
Just not concievable that Jace and Rhaena could be so stupid. The book has Jace dying but in a much more believable way, not essentially killed by rogue dragon Sheepstealer and his own cousin! ( Conflating two characters from the book has not worked).
That Alicent Aemond kiss completely unnecessary.
Battle scenes seemed blurry and confusing, with way too much of Lohar ( hammy pirate lady).

I really hope they stick to the book more.
