Apologies if there is another thread on this. Couldn't see one.

Thoughts?

I’m assuming the fatty liver was caused by years of opioid use. Poor Meg. If it wasn’t for Joanne’s email about her death being suspicious, there wouldn’t have been a more detailed post mortem, and Jean would have got away with it.

I wonder what the One Direction men think about their role in it now? I remember the Cinderella Ball and Louis’s mum (sadly passed away from cancer herself) being so proud of her son.

Neddevine · 01/06/2026 20:35

I don't understand how the false brain tumour diagnosis went undiscovered, bearing in mind how high profile Meg's illness became and the media attention they attracted. I also don't understand why there were no criminal charges brought against Jean. The photos of them leaving the ship were damning. And what happened when Meg died.....wouldn't who she was have been apparent? So many questions.

Name change as don't want other posts linked.

Nick is a friend of mine son-in-law, and his son, Adam is my friend's grandmother.

In tears listening to him talking about Adam.

I’m sorry but I don’t understand your post. Can you explain who’s who again pls?

I think she means her friend was Adam’s grandmother and Nicks MIL

Starting episode 2 after Corrie. Its riveting

Nick. What a guy. A man of absolute steel. We need more guys like him. Just sad the way it had to all come about - him losing his son giving him a need to find a purpose/fight for a cause.

From what I can see on this programme, I like and respect him immensely. I wish him all the best for the future.

And Joanna! Paying for a private detective, constantly emailing drs etc.

ScrollofDoom · 01/06/2026 21:06

Yes! She certainly put her money where her mouth is!

ScrollofDoom · 01/06/2026 21:26

Christ! Joanna got the funeral stopped to get a post-mortem before she got cremated! Fucking get in there, woman!

And got it stopped almost at the last minute 😱

I don’t know how these things work but Meg dies of a fatty liver and has history for numerous invasive tests - mum is being investigated for prescription fraud and the doctor knew about this and the morphine. 🤯

ScrollofDoom · 01/06/2026 21:57

Makes you wonder just how many folk have got away with murder just because the person was already know to be ill so no post-mortem was done.

cramptramp · 01/06/2026 22:00

Did Joanna and Nick get apologies from the people who’d called them names when they tried to point out that Jean was using the charity money for herself, and that Meg didn’t have a brain tumour?

ScrollofDoom · 01/06/2026 22:05

@cramptramp doubt it. Am sure a lot of people will still make excuses for Jean rather than admit they themselves were taken in by it. Eg that weird bloke who insists they "must have missed" the brain tumour during the PM.

time4anothername · 01/06/2026 23:23

just watched and felt so sad and angry for Meg and that she has not got justice and it was accepted by authorities that she was the one masterminding all of this fraud. I thought her sister brave for going on record and admired the parents who stood up against the fraud.

I saw that she was on long term steroids (prednisolone) from the drugs list too. That would explain about hair falling out and it can cause fatty liver used long term. It can also damage the thyroid and cause diabetes so suppose that is why there was thyroid meds and metformin on the lists too. Presumably the opiates damaged her heart and it was frustrating to see that passed over in the inquest.

sunshine244 · 01/06/2026 23:29

It really showed the failings of professionals too. So many missed opportunities to help Meg - red flags from doctors, forged prescriptions, police involvement, charities commission taking yesrs to act etc. I wonder if it would have been easier to spot these days with more joined up record keeping etc.

I know there's been a lot of backlash about plans to monitor home schooling more carefully in England but I think this is a great example of why it's important. There didn't seem to be any attend to give her a proper education and perhaps picking up on this would have led to other issues also being discovered.

Some of the rest is frankly bizarre. I actually googled harrods having a pharmacy as that seemed so unlikely. Bizarelly it does 🤣 The flight stuff i just don't understand for so many reasons. The pilot sounded crazier than rhe mum. Who agrees to fly that far just above the sea during a storm with a child that might die?

I was left quite angry there were no real consequences, although perhaps after this there will be. I can't help wondering if a deliberate overdose of morphine was ruled out.

ScrollofDoom · 01/06/2026 23:48

I felt like there was an elephant in the room towards the end - the question of - was this a homicide? Nobody even suggested it. Maybe we haven't yet heard the end of this yet.

ScrollofDoom · 01/06/2026 23:49

@sunshine244 agree, the whole plane thing just sounded totally off. What sort of pilot makes compromises like that when flying - not to use instruments in case "her brain exploded" (!)

I think the pilot was starstruck. Didn't one of One Direction pay for the flight? Plus the White House and 10 Downing Street were involved in some capacity with the flight plan.

I am hoping that Jean is arrested for the damage she caused to her daughter over the years, resulting in her premature and unnecessary death. Also forging prescriptions for morphine - people have been jailed for less. It sounds like she purposefully gave her daughter an opiate addiction.

TitsInAbsentia · Yesterday 15:15

Binged this morning...shocking stuff...huge kudos for Nick and Johannah for raising the flag and maybe saving some people from being duped in the future. Anyone who is vague about their illness raises a flag for me, been taken for a fool before although nowhere near as serious as this.

It seems like Jean kept Meg off the scent/kept her playing along with all the Disney stuff...coming back on the queen mary tho wonder if they had the cheap room or a suite! 🤑🤯

daysofpearlyspencer · Yesterday 15:31

Meg was very child like, I am assuming this is due to lack of proper education and being mainly with Jean who kept her that way.
I kept thinking though that as soon as I was 16 I attended medical appointments alone. It is so bizarre but I have seen a similar documentary on an American mother and daughter. I think both served jsil time.

daysofpearlyspencer · Yesterday 15:35

Re my pp I think it's called Mommy Dead and Dearest on Apple about Dee Dee Blanchard.

CalmZebra · Yesterday 18:48

Teeheehee1579 · 01/06/2026 19:52

I actually think it was quite odd that the pilot and owners of the plane agreed to do it in the first place in very dangerous conditions - there is being charitable and there is being downright dangerous and idiotic and this seemed the latter to me. The whole documentary was bonkers but this was one of the strangest bits for me

Completely agree with this. Especially as the pilot thought Meg was a child

GoodOnPaper · Yesterday 21:34

So, so sad. Poor Meg. It does seem Jean has gotten away with so much criminality between the charity fraud and abuse of Meg.

There wasn't any mention in (the parts we heard of) the inquest about opioid abuse and what medical records they had looked at. To die of fatty liver disease alone at that age seemed really unlikely.

Also wonder if morphine withdrawal could have been part of the picture. as it can cause heart failure. Assume an overdose would have been picked up in a post mortem.

One of the pilots also said they thought her friend was somehow part of her medical team which seemed a real stretch. He seemed very young too. Amazed they didn't ask more questions and weren't more concerned at flying a sick child in such dangerous circumstances without a parent or 'proper adult' rather than a young friend. Perhaps another case of Jean being persuasive and inspiring them to think they could be the heroes in the story....Strange she chose not to fly with them given how she didn't like to be apart from Meg.

Victoriawould24 · Yesterday 22:44

@GoodOnPaperI was going to say the same re Will and the pilot thinking he was a medic.
I think Meg obviously thought it was going to be some luxury private jet, can you imagine the trauma of it all on Will and the pilots.

I accept that Meg was obviously a victim here but I do also think she was aware there were lies being told.
She obviously had constant access to social media and would have seen her mums lies about what was happening in America , I suppose she did know but was subjugated into playing along or turning a blind eye.

Her friends were all visibly damaged by the whole thing.

I thought it was suspicious her saying she had a brain tumour and all kinds of interventions but had a full head of hair with none shaved off.
But I’m guessing that weird drain on it with all her hair around it was from her shunt.
