Watching at tv pace , it doesn’t end for ages , but as it’s all on I player obviously some may have watched it all.
I admit that I’ve been at a loose end and needed something to watch this week.
What do others think ? I did enjoy it. It was a strange drama and I can’t tell if it was satire or a black comedy or just the holiday from hell! Or all three.
The policeman made me laugh ( how lovely was he) and a few quips. Some really good acting too.
I feel guilty for binging it.

I’ve just finished binge watching to the end. I’ve really enjoyed it and would love a second series. It was like Cold Feet on an acid trip!

the80sweregreat · 29/05/2026 15:42

They were an odd bunch to say the least.
Nat and Jacob I understood , but she did need to let go of him and I’m glad she realized this.
Solomon they all liked, but I wonder if it was because he was semi famous more than his personality. I hope that Jess divorces him , but I can see her taking him back tbh or he’ll win her round?
Zoe is going to struggle I think. Mostly because bad behavior by a woman is more harshly judged than when men behave badly, but that is only my take on things going by past experiences where the woman decides to split up. I thought she may give it another go at one point.

It was like cold feet at times ( I didn’t see every cold feet episode, but dipped in and out of it )
It also reminded me of ‘ this life’ as well. 90s show which is also on I player.

Jacob kept on changing his job title. Did anyone else notice this ? I was a bit hmmm, what do you do?
I am sure the bank could have cancelled the house purchase as fraud?
Nat said it didn’t have a tap or toilet but they all stayed there and the beds were made up too I noticed.
Some good music ( apart from the violin stuff)
Crowded house , Shirley bassey. Some other songs I didn’t know.

No, he said he worked for a charity and in a later episode said he worked in human rights (for that charity).

Meredusoleil · 29/05/2026 21:32

I've just finished epsiode 6 and am getting more and more disgusted with Zoe. It's like she has had a complete personality transplant and turned into the pyscho bitch from hell 😳

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 30/05/2026 06:26

Watched the whole thing last week. It definitely is at least one episode too long - the final two should have been compressed into one. But eight episodes seems to be compulsory right now, whether needed or not.
Otherwise very well written and mostly beautifully acted. Satisfyingly rounded characters and many about turns - almost nothing was quite as it first appeared.

I was very pleased to see someone from Industry in a minor role. Poor man's White Lotus? Arguably. There was obviously more interconnection here - all the main characters knew each other so it's a very different dynamic.

I admired the costuming - Zoe's clothes are so much cheaper and more worn than any of her friends' outfits; impossible not to feel bad for her with regard to that, on top of everything else.

Absolutely loved the Greek mythology woven through the story.

DiamondRBD · 30/05/2026 07:12

I really enjoyed it. It felt a bit like "British white lotus" to me, especially the discordant music. All of them were ghastly - I read a Lucy Mangan review which was more sympathetic to Zoe than I felt by the end! Some of it was so on the money for me as social satire and I do know people who behave a bit like these characters at times! Agree with others I felt like something bad was going to happen to one of the children and Dan was awful.

DiamondRBD · 30/05/2026 07:14

Also on Greek Mythology, the actress playing Nat was in Kaos which I really enjoyed which got cancelled.

KnutsfordCityLimits · 30/05/2026 08:31

It got to the orgy part as I had Ocado pull up outside. I had to turn it off quickly in case they thought I was watching gay porn!

I thought it was fair enough that Zoe said she would always be more tired as she’d clearly been holding things together, as women tend to do, while he had his breakdown.

I didn’t understand the point of the nanny though.

lazymum99 · 30/05/2026 09:23

Finished the whole lot last night. Glad to have found this thread.

That policeman was hugely attractive. Not sure if it was the uniform and the bike tho 🤭

I was sure that something was going to happen to those neglected children.
They all went to stay in that broken down house with no running water or anything. That was unrealistic. And no food was consumed.
I was pleased they did not get back together. Dan was an awful drip.

The ending was ridiculous. Unless they rowed out to the bigger yacht where were they going to go.
Virtually impossible to climb onto a yacht unless the ladder is down which it shouldn’t be when left on its own. Also unless you know what you are doing then starting an engine on a big yacht like that is not easy. There would be buttons to press and probably 2 engines. Also just working out how to get the Anchor up is not straight forward.

But it was a different and entertaining series all in all.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 30/05/2026 09:43

Well, obviously they were rowing to the yacht! 😄

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 30/05/2026 09:45

It seemed odd though that Nat was able to get to and from the palatial villa - which was obviously quite safe. So why didn’t they all go there and wait until the fire risk was over?

mcmuffin22 · 30/05/2026 09:51

I commented on the non spoiler thread but have now completed the whole series and really enjoyed it. I too liked the Greek mythology running through. I feel quite sympathetic to all characters except for Jess and Dan ! Dan is annoying and such a victim. Zoe is best off without him. The Jess actor seemed a bit wooden. Maybe she was given a duff script - some of the stuff around her (over)parenting was amusing though. I feel like there could be a series two as Nat stayed on the island and the weird Brits are still there.

Re. The point of the nanny - I guess she played the observer role. Someone on the outside looking in at their weird group.

the80sweregreat · 30/05/2026 10:49

Probably Will knew how to navigate the yacht. He seemed the sort to know about ladders and steering it to shore, but probably not easy to figure out if you had no clue. They got up it, but with children and luggage ?
I guess you have to assume they managed it somehow, but it was all a nightmare. The rich couple didn’t bother with getting away !

OP posts:
Meredusoleil · 30/05/2026 11:11

Just came on to say I'm glad Jacob gave Will the boot. About time too.

Also, glad Jacob shouted at Zoe to tell the bloody truth about Jon/Yunis.

In fact, Yunis was right about one thing: "You are not good people". Totally agree! Shame he had to get mixed up with them in the first place.

the80sweregreat · 30/05/2026 11:35

The policeman was gorgeous. I am sure I’ve seen him in something else ? Have to look him up.

OP posts:
DiamondRBD · 30/05/2026 12:41

Agree with the fires I was trying to do some sort of map in my mind to work out why some places seemed safe! I kind of guessed that the fire was pushing one way towards the beach and the awful couple party house plus Nat's house were the other side?

To be honest it was a plot device, and would have been more satisfying if they all just went back to the airport seething after the drama but again that's very " White Lotus" and wouldn't have needed as many episodes so I suspect it just felt like the best plot device available to create drama on a Greek island!

I think Antonia Thomas is a good actress. The two things I've seen her in were a good while ago (misfits, and Lovesick) she was playing someone extremely beautiful who was slightly dismissed by others, so this felt like a logical leap for her!

The crap parenting and what neglect looks like from affluent parents felt pretty relatable tbh!

Agree Dan was just awful. I couldn't work out who was supposed to have been at University together - was it Zoe, Dan, Solomon and Nat and then Jacob was Zoe's friend from later on.

Where did all the other people in those parties come from, that was my other thought!

the80sweregreat · 30/05/2026 12:52

Some of them were a bit ambivalent about the fire. I would have been bricking it too and want to get off. You thought you would have seen the fire bridage at least.
I did like how Jacob went on about the ferry not leaving at 4 and the boatman not being interested ! Made me laugh , he had enough of that crowd for a lifetime. At least he got a nice watch out of it, but they were awful to him.

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 30/05/2026 12:56

Nat and Jacob were best friends and obviously saw each other a lot ( that’s the impression I got anyway!)
I did laugh at how Nat handed in her notice .. I bet many people would love to do it like that. Even if it wasn’t the best move really and never do it after rich people’s lethal punch.

OP posts:
SwedishEdith · 30/05/2026 13:06

Finished it last night.

I must have "enjoyed" it as I often don't finish things but I'm not sure why I enjoyed it 😄

No-one really likeable. There were never any scenes where they just seemed to be getting on with each other, chatting and laughing. Everything was tense and ready to go wrong.

Dan was whiney and needy so I would definitely have dumped him.

The Nat story was boring really - didn't care. Didn't really care about the W1A guy story either. Would have told the young hangers on to fuck off out of the house.

The policeman and Yunis were both hot. Zoe will look back on the moment in the church quite fondly when she's older.

No-one actually played with the kids. The direction was all that usual, but not remotely realistic stuff, of kids just running off at once. No whining.

I would have burst out laughing at the Greek speaking in tongues bit at the temple.

the80sweregreat · 30/05/2026 13:24

Jon was about the best one out of all of them , yet he got the blame for the alter sex and you know he’ll have a hard time getting another job.
:(
Flick was funny with the talking in tongues, I don’t know any Greek! Apparently it’s a famous Greek saying , but I did have to look it up myself. She lives there, you’d think she’d know a bit.
Was Zoe seeing her mum and herself as a little girl ?

OP posts:
lazymum99 · 30/05/2026 16:34

I think she was seeing her mum and herself as a little girl. She looked like she was holding the Greek myths book.
I would have been terrified of that approaching fire and got straight on the first tourist boat wherever it was going!
You didn’t see any firefighting going on. They usually send the small planes over that dump the water on the fires.

neverbeenskiing · 30/05/2026 19:15

It seems I'm in the minority but I felt quite sympathetic towards Zoe, although her behaviour was objectively pretty awful as the show went on.
I felt for her on the first night when she was trying to get the kids to sleep, then trying to placate her Mum on the phone, and you could hear all the others laughing and chatting outside the whole time. In the first episode she's so relentlessly positive, treading on eggshells around Dan, determined to rescue their shit dinner, putting on a polite smile when her wealthier friends are being inconsiderate about the kitty or making patronising comments about her job. I got the sense that she's been putting on a forced smile for years, looking after a needy and emotionally manipulative Husband and a needy and emotionally manipulative Mother on top of looking after two kids, then the added pressure of being the only earner when Dan's business went bust, but never allowing herself to express any hurt or resentment prior to this holiday. I can see why, after all that, seeing her Husband kiss her friend made something sort of snap inside of her.

FrostyMorn · 30/05/2026 21:07

Just finished it. Thought it was 2 episodes too long!
I couldn't understand why no one alerted the authorities or sent for the coastguard after Jess dived off the boat and went missing for hours. Even on a small island surely you'd try to get help?? Felt like a major plot hole to me! (Or maybe i got the wrong end of the stick?)

I did still feel sympathetic to Zoe through to the end even though she was reckless.

Also, sorry to be picky but Gozo doesn't look like Greece (probably because it isn't)! Must have been cost or logistical reasons to film there.

Nat's house was gorgeous!
