I didn't know it was set in the 80s.

Looks promising.

Crikey, I am so surprised to see the love for DD on the thread. Like others I've avoided watching Rivals because he's in it. I might have to give it a try.

I'd never heard of Danny Dyer so had no preconceptions. He must be a good actor and he's not getting any pulses racing but he plays quite a complicated character who is a successful business man but gentle and vulnerable.

I'm so excited! Loved the first series.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/05/2026 19:44

I was looking for a thread om Rivals2

I read the books in my late teens/early 20s , started with Lisa&Co , Octavia and all the 'name' ones , Riders probably early 20s .

I watched the TV adaptation of Riders and TMWMHJ

I haven't watched Rivals -though DD did and loved it ( FredFred is her favourite) she hasn't read the books though '

This is my choice for Rupert - yes he's dark , but in GoT he had blonde hair and could ride a horse , thoroughly amoral and arrogant

Season 2 starts on Friday!

This and Eurovision are getting me through the week! Can’t flipping wait for Friday

gingercat02 · 13/05/2026 14:17

I'm nearly caught up.
I have surprised myself how much I have enjoyed it. DD is great as Freddie but I liked him in Eastenders too.
I watched the S2 trailer, definitely looks like it rolls into Polo, and from the hint in the fire.

Madcats · 13/05/2026 14:24

In no way connected, but Season 3 Good Omens (a single 90min+ episode) is now available on Prime. Probably no horses or bonking, though.

Scorchio84 · 13/05/2026 20:32

I finished my rewatch last night.. I was meant to watch one or two episodes last week & then wait so I could fill the gap after the first couple of new episodes but I got carried away 😂

NotWavingButReading · 13/05/2026 21:41

I'm loving my rewatch but I won't rush to finish. A few things I missed first time round including "Perdita" in the fire. Polo is my favourite book so I hope they make a series of it. I'm not sure how it would work though because while RCB and co feature, they are small parts in Polo and it would require some new lead actors.

So I decided to give it a try tonight and have binged 3 episodes. It's so good! Danny Dyer is a lovely character and I loved it when he said to Lizzie "that's a nice question" with a little smile. You've all won me over 🐪🐎

Glad you're a convert @NedsAtomicWheelieBin !

Is this the thread for Series 2 or is one going to be started?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/05/2026 15:45

Thanks @Notonthestairs

gingercat02 · 15/05/2026 16:07

I'm on episode 7 of S1, be with you shortly @Notonthestairs

I'm disappointed but not surprised that the money grabbers at Disney + are releasing it in batches. Think I'll wait until all twelve eps are on there.

I mean, I'm hardly defending Disney here as some charitable enterprise but.. money grabbers for releasing it not all in one go - so slightly more akin to how TV has always been released until fairly recently...? I mean they do need to actually PAY the people who make TV programmes you know....

gingercat02 · 15/05/2026 16:27

There are lots of streaming shows dropped weekly, so it's not vastly different.

Sure. I know they’re not a charity and profit is their first priority. But they didn’t do this with the first season, and they don’t usually do this with other shows. Prime and Netflix drop all episodes at once. So it feels churlish they’re releasing this in batches. But business is business, I guess.

nothingtoseehereatall · 15/05/2026 16:33

Actually both Netflix and Prime are starting to drop things in batches too (Stranger Things for instance) for big hitters.

I thought the first season was split in two as well (of Rivals) but I am probably misremembering that.

WhatHoJeeves · 15/05/2026 16:42

I was so surprised that I loved Rivals as I hated the books - can't wait to start on series 2 after rewatching the last couple of episodes of the first series.

Even more surprised that I loved Danny Dyer in it as normally I can't stand him! His character is lovely and kind - underrated qualities very often - so he's a great antidote to the baddies in it!

ihearyoucalling · 15/05/2026 19:20

Nuttycoffee · 30/04/2026 21:00

I wont be watching it now lol cant stand him.

Oh he's great in this. Complete opposite of his usual persona.
