New drama/thriller on for 6w

ITV's 6-part detective drama is a must-watch for Death in Paradise fans – see first look
A Taste For Murder stars Warren Brown as a detective who, after the death of his wife, embarks on a new crime-solving adventure in Capri, Italy

Daria (Gaia Scodellaro), DCI Joe Mottram (Warren Brown), Inspector Lara Sarrancino (Cristiana Dell'Anna), Elena Da Vinale (Phyllis Logan), Angelica (Beau Gadsdon), Chef Gennaro (Urbano Barberini)

Starring Warren Brown (The Responder, Trigger Point) and Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey), the drama is set in Capri, Italy, and uniquely blends crime-filled mysteries with mouth-watering local cuisine, which sits at the heart of each episode.

If you're a fan of crime dramas set against beautiful, sun-soaked backdrops, then you're in for a treat. With creator Matt Baker (Patience, Professor T, Hotel Portofino) at the helm and Whitstable Pearl's Jon Jones directing, it's set to fill that crime drama gap in your viewing schedule.

Much like Death in Paradise, which sees its lead detective relocate abroad for a fresh start, A Taste For Murder follows detective Joe Mottram as he retreats to Capri with his daughter after the tragic death of his wife.

There, they spend the summer living with his Italian in-laws.
The synopsis continues: "Unsure how to face his own grief, let alone help heal his daughter's broken heart, he quickly becomes immersed in the local murder cases on the island."

For Detective Chief Inspector Joe Mottram, a summer on the island of Capri was meant to be an opportunity to reconnect with his troubled teenage daughter, Angelica, and his Italian in-laws, after his wife’s Francesca’s death by a hit-and-run.

But when a British tourist is found dead and a member of his late wife’s family is accused of murder, Joe is pulled back into a world of police cells, crime scenes and local corruption.

As he discovers more about the island, he realises it holds the answers to Francesca’s death, which may not have been a tragic accident after all.

It’s a guess that it’s the mafia @the80sweregreat i just assumed that as he didn’t look very happy about it.

the80sweregreat · 07/05/2026 10:54

No, the fil did hand that man something dh said. I thought it was David Tennent at first!
No doubt that Joe will sort that out for him at a later date I suppose!

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/05/2026 12:43

I’m guessing a loan shark as he said business was bad so borrowed money

Really enjoying it interesting that a lot was filmed in Croatia.
If you’ve ever been to Capri you will get by - it’s rammed. Think they used it for some scenes and the elevated shots.
I want to learn to cook that!

TheignT · 07/05/2026 12:52

I thought it was dire. As if a foreign police force would involve a British holidaying police officer in an investigation.

Ooh hadn’t thought of loan shark. I just thought Italy - mafia. Which island is it Meant to be? I can’t remember if it’s been mentioned.

the80sweregreat · 07/05/2026 12:55

Some of the episodes were set in southern Italy , but most of it is in Croatia apparently.

ginasevern · 07/05/2026 13:21

I thought it was dire. Most of the actors were wooden or ill suited to their roles and there was very little of anything "Italian" about it. How on earth they thought they could pass Croatia off as Capri, god knows. They'd have been better off inventing an Italian Island. Capri is incredibly distinctive and Croatia looks absolutely nothing like it. So for that alone it lost all credibility.

diddl · 07/05/2026 14:13

So the FIL is paying off the mafia/camorra & the daughter's bf is dodgy.

Bit cliched!

I've go to the age where. I'll watch/read to a certain point and think do I care? If don't then I don't waste any more time and with this I got to about 40 minutes and didn't care.

Same here. I gave up on it.

Umanresources · 11/05/2026 17:32

I’m still watching, but it’s background at the moment as I’m painting and am listening more than watching. Warren Brown seemed really flat in his delivery.

I like the murders. The recipes. And the easy ness of it
