Fans of Line of Duty, Black Doves and Happy Valley will have their void soon filled with Secret Service, ITV’s latest espionage drama. Led by Gemma Arterton, the series comes from the Oscar-winning director James Marsh (The Theory of Everything) and is based on the best-selling novel (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/book-reviews/g28256073/best-books/) of the same name by Tom Bradby (which you might also recognise as ITV’s resident anchorman and friend of Prince William and Harry).

MI6 officer Kate Henderson (Arterton) is a mother to two teenage children and wife to civil servant Stuart (Spall). All seems pretty ordinary, but this is an espionage thriller, after all. Henderson’s concealed career is actually being the head of the Russia desk at the Secret Intelligence Service.

Just finished. And yes I had seen before, but strangely enough, had not seen the last episode.

I hope there is another series, whether with the same or different characters, a bit like Capture but not as stressful 🤣

I don't think hubby has been in it enough to suddenly be a massive part of the storyline.

Roger Allam has a small role for an actor whose fame and pay grade is significantly higher.

Who is Roger ?

Isn't he the deep-voiced foreign secretary (?), late 50s, was Endeavour's boss in the long-running TV series of that name, had a small role in The Queen.

But I struggle a bit with who is the foreign secretary cos we never seem to see them do foreign secretary things.

Does everyone have a large enough telly that they can read the texts or emails? I don't.

We don't have a massive TV, but it's large. I've given up even trying to read what text messages etc on screen say. Even if I pause and rewind and then slo mo, I've no idea what the words are
