I think what blonds means is the mum was young having Nicola and the others and maybe didn’t handle the situations that well with the dad. Not excusing her behavior now, but might be why she was like it when she was younger as well.

My siblings and other relatives are in their 70s and dress in jeans and tops and t shirts and shorts I’m a bit younger and my wardrobe is mostly jeans and skirts. Nothing that fashionable , but nothing like she had on either! Kathy doesn’t dress like a frump. I understand they like characters to have a ‘ uniform’ , but her one was very staid and old fashioned.
