Hooray!

This is back for another series, starting Thursday.

I just googled very quickly and they set off from Sicily and end the race in northern Mongolia - sounds interesting.

I don't know anything else about it at this point, but thought that we should have a thread ready and waiting.

Peraps it was just me, but I felt a bit sorry for Molly last night. I understand it might just be the editing and it's difficult when it's a parent / child relationship, as the parent tends to take the lead, but she doesn't seem to be enjoying the experience.

I think it's more because he is a teacher. Married to one and he is so used to micromanaging a class of teenagers that he automatically goes into that mode with his own dc even when they've reached their 20s. Hopefully, like my DC now, Molly will learn to call it out and get to show she is capable of making decisions and taking the lead.

beasmithwentworth · 24/04/2026 12:25

@SwedishEdith I keep thinking this. Totally!

I've never done that with mine! I'm happy to leave the teacher mode in the classroom 😊

I'm a retired teacher and I've never been like that. I have young adult grandchildren and I am very much aware that they know more about some things than me.

Same here. I think having been a teacher makes you a good listener to young people, as well.

Not his offspring though, it could just be him

Four teachers in the family (incl in-laws) and I agree. Teaching mode is never off. Makes conversations very dull.

In your family, perhaps. We have scintillating conversations! 😊

Hmmmmmm…… the teachers are saying how they don’t do it while those in (attempted) conversations with teachers say otherwise. 😃

It's almost as if....you can't generalise about one profession!
Seriously. RATW is a great programme, a good watch, we're enjoying it and chatting about it.
Maybe just lay off the criticism of teachers? Just for this thread?

Wow. You know how forums work? You are refuting your own points.

Yes, I know how forums work, thanks.

This is a really nice one about a enjoyable programme.
I didn't really expect someone on here to be so unpleasant and personal, starting an argument about teachers, but there we are. I don't want to get into an argument with you. It's already derailing the thread.
Enjoy the rest of the series.
I'm off.

I always think it’s mean to let the leaders out and then they can’t go anywhere as no transport so have to pay for a hotel.

I agree. That was really unfair.

I agree. Pointless and eats into their lead. And they have to fork out for a night in a hotel that the others didn’t. So almost penalised for being first

Silverbirchleaf · 24/04/2026 20:16

Just caught up. We don’t see so much of them living in this series. In one, there was much more emphasis on what they ate. One duo loved going 7-11 (?) stores and wanted to try a certain delicacy. Apart from eating with the families, there’s no info about good and how much it costs.

Dameputtingonabraveface · 24/04/2026 20:58

I am absolutely loving this series, I think it is back to its original form. Just enough back story without going down the old x-factor route (like the last series) and seeing far more of the race locations and likable contestants. On a personal note, so far they have travelled through places I know and love. Tbilisi is one of my favorite places is the world, and I will be back there in just over a week. Seeing it on screen reminded me how much I love it. The same with, Italy, Greece, Istanbul and Eastern Turkey.

Georgia is absolutely stunning with the friendliest people and very budget friendly. Margo having a great time by herself, sampling the wonderful food and wine was really special, as I travel there by myself and always feel so well looked after. It was £10! Hardly a budget buster. I think out of all the couples, she and Mark have had the best balance of race/budget and making sure they enjoy the experience.

I actually found myself feeling quite emotional a couple of times this episode- such as seeing Margo's beautiful interactions with locals and Mark relaxing. I also love the siblings, Katie and Harrison- they are lovely young people and when they get so much from their experiences it is quite life affirming. I now also want to go to that tea plantation in Hopa!

LindorDoubleChoc · 24/04/2026 21:11

Yes, that double-edged sword of being hours in the lead but having to set off when transport isn't available is a bit of a problem. I can't see a way round it though?

OP posts:
NCTDN · 24/04/2026 22:30

Thought I’d search for flights to Tbilisi but can’t find any in the north west that are direct.

Dameputtingonabraveface · 24/04/2026 23:35

@NCTDN, youcan only fly directly from London with BA or Easy jet. I tend to fly into Kutaisi with a connecting flight via Poland, as there are lots of flights to Poland from ny local airport. It is very easy to travel onwards from Kutaisi, although I love a thermal spa so stay in Tskaltubo for a few nights first.

But that's the game. Like snakes and ladders.

I think one group had to in either one of the South American or Canadian series, but you’re right that it doesn’t happen much. Or if it does we aren’t shown it.

They have had to hang about for ages for transport though and others have caught up with them. Not with such a big lead obviously. It's very unfortunate for the leaders but I don't think it's actually unfair within the rules just the fall of the dice.

Rictasmorticia · 25/04/2026 09:38

i love this series as the couples are so well chosen. The places they are visiting are wonderful. I am going back and watching from series 1 again.

Did I read somewhere that there is a spin off series to accompany it. Does any one know what it is
