Hooray!

This is back for another series, starting Thursday.

I just googled very quickly and they set off from Sicily and end the race in northern Mongolia - sounds interesting.

I don't know anything else about it at this point, but thought that we should have a thread ready and waiting.

I was thinking when the boys were working out their budget how this way of travelling is so new for them. Also the siblings and the cousins. Looking at timetables, asking people for directions, having a finite amount of cash etc. Nowadays you just tap
it in the phone, and hey presto, you have the information all there. Not sure when the last time someone asked me for directions was.

Yes, I think we're used to such an "instant" life now. It's a challenge to work things out more.

Why did Joe and kush get a hotel then a taxi in the morning? They could have just got the taxi overnight?

I thought this. I wonder if they have a rule that they must get x hours rest?

Squirrelchops1 · 17/04/2026 08:54

I'd like to see more of where they end up staying overnight. I'm sure in the earlier series they did this and would often eat and sleep in return for work rather than just money.

Yes, they used to, it was interesting.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 17/04/2026 09:57

There seem to be less sob stories this series, fingers crossed it remains so

I presumed a taxi didn’t want to drive overnight.

HollyhockDays · 17/04/2026 13:27

I think some places are more set up towards home stays. Good episode. The cousins going west was a mistake.

MonstrousRegimentRocks · 17/04/2026 08:30

I agree. I really liked the journey and the people last year, but the sob stories dominated too much and became an irritation.

Agreed! This year has been brill as the balance is so much better!

Maybe, i suppose I'm thinking of travel I've done in Asia mainly where for cash you'll get any trip you want lol

TokyoSushi · 17/04/2026 14:43

Caught up, loved it again!

I really like Mark and Margo. Her joie de vivre and his knowledgeable interest in everything is just lovely.

I also like the father of the father and daughter team, he's just getting so much out of this, both in terms of travelling, and also spending quality time with his daughter.

I wish me and my mum had travelled together. 🥲

I love the father and daughter too.Its just Margo I find too much. Perhaps she will grow on me

Silverbirchleaf · 17/04/2026 15:01

The father/daughter team are growing on me. I thought the dad was going to be a bit pompous and know-it-all the beginning, but that hasn’t happened. Also, we didn’t see much of them at the beginning, but they’re being shown alot more now.

VividDeer · 17/04/2026 15:33

I think the cousins prioritised the turtle visit. Which was a big mistake on elimination leg.

Yeah i also think the urge to keep moving overtook common sense, there would have been as good connections out of Istanbul as Izmir. They should have had a plan B. A pity as they were my favourite team!

BeaLola · 17/04/2026 15:56

Can anyone recall what the Turkey hotel was called ? - the checkpoint was the viewing platform

I'm hoping the two young men will grow on me since we're stuck with them now!

😄

It is miles better this year!! Back to its old quality. I wasn't sure I'd want to watch it again after the overkill of personal non stories last year.

WonderfulSmith · 17/04/2026 16:32

I agree. Much less of a focus on sob stories, just background really.

Same here. It definitely was over kill.

Umbilicat · 17/04/2026 18:44

It’s improved massively in terms of just a touch of back story but far more travels

Sorry to see the cousins go but they were bonkers to go back to Izmir

I’m team Mark and Margo

I don't think it was linked to a hotel, but the viewing platform was overlooking Rumkale castle in Halfeti,

disappointed the cousins went. everybody else went faster.
although kate and harrison had a good trip with the caves and balloons and still coming in first
that was a stressful programme tonight, the boys/lads were getting on my nerves. i like all the rest of them

I like the boys. I'm glad they weren't eliminated.

I quite like Jo but can’t warm to Kush.

Gingercar · 17/04/2026 23:29

I don’t dislike any of the people this year. I’m sorry to see the cousins eliminated, but their choice of route was bad. Can’t blame them for wanting to do the turtle detour though!
Both sets of youngsters can irritate me a little. Surely the boys will run out of money soon? And the leaders are a strange pair. While I can’t deny they can pick a great route, they don’t seem the most deserving winners. She’s good - finds a balance of fun experiences and racing. He’s a bit uptight.

purpleme12 · 17/04/2026 23:30

He does seem quite uptight
