Hooray!

This is back for another series, starting Thursday.

I just googled very quickly and they set off from Sicily and end the race in northern Mongolia - sounds interesting.

I don't know anything else about it at this point, but thought that we should have a thread ready and waiting.

Agree that some of the jobs are a little out of the way. It does seem like they have to either work or do something touristy most legs of the journey though? It would be pretty boring to watch otherwise. Would be nice to know what the “rules” were!

Love Margot. I'd definitely want to be friends with her.
Re jobs, you probably have to go out of your way to get to them. Wasting time. The cousins were trying to fill their gaps so a bit different.

Katie is so mature. I missed any mention to them being in care.

In the first episode they said they'd had 14 different homes but always had each other. I took this to mean they had been in care and so did friends who are social workers.

Edit|: I could be quite wrong and there is some other explanation:
Why did Katie and Harrison sign up for Race Across the World?
Harrison has always been a huge fan of Race Across the World and after being sent the link to applications by their mum, all he needed to do was convince Katie.
"I was excited for the race but it was the TV aspect I was nervous for," Katie told Radio Times. "It was just something very different."
But Katie's nerves soon subsided, and it was being on the race that helped her self confidence grow.
She explained: "I learned to be a bit more confident in myself and just the fact you can talk to strangers and get on a train and nothing bad is going to happen. It made me view the world in a better perspective."
While Harrison told Radio Times: "I live quite a strictly, regimented life so I think I learned a different side to me that maybe I didn’t know existed or I didn’t want to explore. I need to get back to him as soon as possible."

I lived in 12 houses as a child. My parents obsessively moved house and my dad relocated a few times. I don't recommend it, though.

The other possibility is that they are military. But I think care is more likely.

His strict and regimented life was to me (and dh), likely autism. But most of our family is, so always on my radar. Katie deals with him very well.

WonderfulSmith · 12/04/2026 16:11

It could be that they are from a forces family. Lots of moving about and changes which will explain Harrison’s need to be ordered with everything changing frequently. Also it means a change of school and friends all the time. But they have each other for consistency.

TokyoSushi · 12/04/2026 16:32

Caught up now! If anybody has to go I’d probably want it to be the cousins or the Dr and her Dad.

Decorhate · 12/04/2026 20:17

The hotel where Katie and Harrison got a free stay on the 2nd leg looked beautiful - anyone know where it might be?

Umbilicat · 12/04/2026 20:35

Earlier PP who knew K and H said their Mum was chaotic - hence constant upheaval

i I don’t want anyone to go but if it has to be a pair would choose dad and daughter as they haven’t engaged me. Seem nice though!

FrankieMcGrath · 12/04/2026 21:14

Caught up today! Really enjoying it & love all the couples, so don’t want anyone to go but I do think it’s right that there is an elimination to ensure it remains a race! The celebrity version should also have one though!

Piggywaspushed · 12/04/2026 21:20

It was in Vasiliki in Lefkada. I think I found it on Google maps. While looking , I resolved something they never told us on the programme. I couldn't understand how people got a lift / bus from Lefkada to the mainland. There's a bridge...

I would like to see the Dad and daughter stay long enough for him to acknowledge that she is not a child any more and may know more than him about some things.

i fear the boys may not last
it also showed their stupidity in over sleeping and being very late

Decorhate · 13/04/2026 17:58

Thanks @Piggywaspushed !

i think that’s it. The prize money is not to be sniffed at but not a life changing amount. I wonder if people would not worry about winning but get to enjoy the experience.

HolidayHattie · 15/04/2026 12:44

@853ax
Wonder where they will be next week presume avoiding Russia maybe they will end up getting a flight presumably Iran not a place they would go via either
I'm sure I saw somewhere that from Turkey they go through Georgia, although I can't remember after that. I wonder if they can cross the Caspian sea from Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan or Kazakhstan?

HolidayHattie · 15/04/2026 12:47

Just checked and there are ferries from Azerbaijan to both those countries. So I reckon they won't need to touch Russia or Iran.

Treylime · 15/04/2026 12:53

Im following some guy on Twitter who is walking from UK to Vietnam. I think he has just crossed the border from Turkey to Uzbekistan so there must be a safe route somewhere.

They don't share a border.

Treylime · 15/04/2026 13:08

Yes you are right. I thought that was what he said. I'll have another look

That would be some feat!

They've just finished Turkiye, and I think they're going to somewhere like Kazakhstan (which they started then had to stop because of the cold) because they'd already walked part of Turkiye a while ago, then their visas ran out so they had to leave.

It's confusing because they've done bits and pieces!

I'm amazed they're still going tbh, they're the most inept travellers I've seen! How they thought they could walk across Kazakhstan in winter with a glorified shopping trolley, I don't know!!!!

RaraRachael · 15/04/2026 13:18

Just caught up with both episodes. Thought the lads had a cheek accepting a share of the van when they wouldn't do the money exchange.

I'm not finding anyone really annoying like I did in the last series although Mark is a bit intense in his interests.

Looking forward to Georgia and Mongolia - 2 beautiful countries that I'm not brave enough to visit.

BoxingHare · 15/04/2026 13:19

Sophietangtravels and chubbytrekka on Instagram if anyone's interested in following their exploits!

I can recommend Georgia - Tbilisi is really interesting.
