Previously led by the likes of Sheridan Smith and Kara Tointon (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-teacher-season-2-air-date-newsupdate/), it looks as though 5's The Teacher (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-teacher-season-2-ending-explained-newsupdate/) is not only returning for a third season but will also feature a brand new lead.

Known for her roles in Doctor Foster, COBRA and The Crown (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-crown-season-7-explained/), it has now been confirmed that Victoria Hamilton will be taking up the helm of The Teacher season 3 as respected drama teacher Helen.

According to her character synopsis, Helen is "struggling to keep up with modern social expectations in a reputable private school".

It continues: "Recently promoted to Head of Drama, Helen finds herself being challenged by outspoken pupil Cressida when she stumbles over student Dee's correct pronouns and insists that her class study Shakespeare as opposed to more modern progressive works.

A sinister grudge match quickly develops between teacher and pupil and, when Dee commits suicide following an argument with Helen, Cressida resorts to blackmail to make Helen pay for her 'outdated' views.

"As the war intensifies and her world comes crashing down around her, Helen must fight to hold on to both her family and her career before she loses everything."

For those familiar with Hamilton's most recent role in ITV's Unforgotten (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/unforgotten-cast-itv/), the character of Helen is not too dissimilar to the role she played as history lecturer and faculty head Juliet Cooper.

While there is, of course, no link to the two roles, Hamilton's role in Unforgotten saw her character similarly get into trouble with the student body after using derogatory language and was suspended from her role at a central London university.

The original series of The Teacher saw Sheridan Smith's protagonist teacher accused of sleeping with one of her students after a night out, with the second season focusing on Kara Tointon's Dani Osborne embroiled in a murder conspiracy which didn't only threaten her job as an art teacher, but also her marriage.

As of now, further casting is set to be announced, but something tells us that Hamilton will slot in nicely to the thriller, which is sure to pack in the twists and turns.

Many will likely recognise Hamilton for her role as neighbour Anna Baker in Doctor Foster, a role she reprised in BBC series Life which aired in 2020.

She has also more recently starred in the likes of Deep State and COBRA, having also had roles in Lark Rise to Candleford, The Time of Your Life and Babyfather.

Series 1 and 2 were much better

Alpacajigsaw · 05/04/2026 10:53

Totally silly but I still had to watch it all.

Realised early on I couldn’t be a teacher, I wouldn’t have made the comment to Dee but I’d have had the heavy eye rolls at all the gender shite.

I didn’t like the stereotyping of the black boy on a bursary being a drug dealer. Dee obviously had more turmoil going on than to kill herself over one comment. The police officer wanging on about misgendering whilst using the now out of date term “committed suicide” seemed incongruous too.

I thought that there was going to be more to the dodgy male teacher eg that he’d sexually abused Dee.

Totally stupid but entertaining enough

I thought that too about the other Drama teacher. But thought he might have been abusing the boy rather than Dee.

purpleme12 · 05/04/2026 11:23

I didn't think there'd be more about the other teacher

Ochtawa · 06/04/2026 00:04

I'm watching it now while doing some crosswords. What a load of old crap. Got half an hour to go and I'm only continuing in the hopes that it ends with them all getting wiped out by an asteroid.

It could have been a decent drama if they'd intelligently examined the issues and had the characters follow believable paths. Instead they're all annoying and extremely unlikely.

Ermmmm...where exactly did the illegally owned firearm come from? Its almost like the writers did no research at all...

It was in a cupboard in the abandoned house.

Piggywaspushed · 10/04/2026 16:18

Yes, I know where it came from but I mean thta you wouldn't have one of those in the UK. Been banned since Dunblane. Sloppy research.

Yes

Watched all 4 of these now. Won't say much as no spoilers. I did enjoy it, and found it quite gripping, but yeah it was a bit kind of daft, and you had to suspend reality a bit.

Found myself getting very annoyed by Cressida's mouth. 😆 She pulls her lips oddly when she speaks. Annoying, loathesome character too.

You can say anything as it's all been aired now. Only spoilers if not been on regular telly yet.

Ah ha, I didn't realise it had all been aired already. Thanks @Gloriia Smile

JustMum93 · 20/04/2026 00:09

Yes!! I thought the male dramas teacher had more involvement and that’s why Dee was struggling. Especially after they passed away the friend said something about no protected when they were alive.

EBearhug · 20/04/2026 01:42

The questions I was left with - did Cressida kill her mum, and had she been shagging anyone else? I'd want a DNA test, because she wasn't terribly trustworthy and honest...

purpleme12 · 20/04/2026 06:41

I don't think she killed her mum

Oh def. I don’t think it’s his baby

she seemed so intent to shag him that I assumed she was preg before and needed a scapegoat

I need to read this thread but I’m just tagging on the end now I’ve finished the series. As so often happens, it was preposterous but enjoyable. I’d watch another series

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/04/2026 14:35

Glad you find us an enjoy it eventually
