Previously led by the likes of Sheridan Smith and Kara Tointon (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-teacher-season-2-air-date-newsupdate/), it looks as though 5's The Teacher (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-teacher-season-2-ending-explained-newsupdate/) is not only returning for a third season but will also feature a brand new lead.

Known for her roles in Doctor Foster, COBRA and The Crown (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-crown-season-7-explained/), it has now been confirmed that Victoria Hamilton will be taking up the helm of The Teacher season 3 as respected drama teacher Helen.

According to her character synopsis, Helen is "struggling to keep up with modern social expectations in a reputable private school".

It continues: "Recently promoted to Head of Drama, Helen finds herself being challenged by outspoken pupil Cressida when she stumbles over student Dee's correct pronouns and insists that her class study Shakespeare as opposed to more modern progressive works.

A sinister grudge match quickly develops between teacher and pupil and, when Dee commits suicide following an argument with Helen, Cressida resorts to blackmail to make Helen pay for her 'outdated' views.

"As the war intensifies and her world comes crashing down around her, Helen must fight to hold on to both her family and her career before she loses everything."

For those familiar with Hamilton's most recent role in ITV's Unforgotten (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/unforgotten-cast-itv/), the character of Helen is not too dissimilar to the role she played as history lecturer and faculty head Juliet Cooper.

While there is, of course, no link to the two roles, Hamilton's role in Unforgotten saw her character similarly get into trouble with the student body after using derogatory language and was suspended from her role at a central London university.

The original series of The Teacher saw Sheridan Smith's protagonist teacher accused of sleeping with one of her students after a night out, with the second season focusing on Kara Tointon's Dani Osborne embroiled in a murder conspiracy which didn't only threaten her job as an art teacher, but also her marriage.

As of now, further casting is set to be announced, but something tells us that Hamilton will slot in nicely to the thriller, which is sure to pack in the twists and turns.

Many will likely recognise Hamilton for her role as neighbour Anna Baker in Doctor Foster, a role she reprised in BBC series Life which aired in 2020.

She has also more recently starred in the likes of Deep State and COBRA, having also had roles in Lark Rise to Candleford, The Time of Your Life and Babyfather.

I'm on episode 3. I hate all the 'theys' and 'thems' when talking about one person. Even the police were insisting on that, surely that isn't realistic.

Cressida is horrible.

Gloriia · 02/04/2026 08:14

It's descended into a farce. Absolutely crazy behaviour from all involved!

I wish Hamilton could find a role that doesn't portray her as an uptight pita. I've only ever seen her play this angry character that kind of hisses out her words in a little hissy voice.

The poor ds, traumatised for life being surrounded by such nutters.

Fatfreefatball · 02/04/2026 14:06

I've watched it all and it gets worse! So bad it's good🤣.

LBFseBrom · 02/04/2026 15:25

I'm on the last episode.

i am disappointed it has descended into typical channel 5 over-the-top-ness.

The acting is good, Victoria Hamilton is quite credible, Cressida is suitably horrible and damaged.

I absolutely hated the overuse of 'theys' and 'thems', that was so exaggerated and not like real life. Even the police were doing it - and most of the time people were talking about one person! It sounded like several.

Now I'm going to finish it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/04/2026 15:41

E4 and last one is tonight.

All the adults in this are absolutely ridiculous. Helen would have stopped all interaction with Cressida on the advice of the lawyer she would have realistically engaged. None of them would be speaking to her, and Helen would have blocked her. As soon as she got the sex photo she would have gone directly to the police. This is just silly now.

PrincessScarlett · 02/04/2026 21:11

At least Terry isn't dead.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 02/04/2026 21:51

So glad Helen is finally pulling rank and experience and ignoring Cressida's bleating.

PrincessScarlett · 02/04/2026 21:59

Wow! That was bonkers 😂

butterpuffed · 02/04/2026 22:04

Well that was a cheerful little drama 😮

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/04/2026 22:09

Wow that was a weird ending

but wondering if not Sam’s baby and why she was so desperate to shag him

cres was totally insane an def needed to be locked up

I did think why not get sam to call an ambulance rather to try and cover her throat - if she had died sam would have felt worse

I said Terry wouldn’t have been dead

so the other teacher was selling booze and drugs at the disco

OP posts:
BreakfastOfWaffles · 02/04/2026 22:12

Yeah the other teacher booze/drugs storyline seemed a bit irrelevant, I don't really know why it was there.

I thought this too. Helen should have shouted to Sam to call an ambulance.

I can't actually believe Cressida (1) slit her own throat and (2) managed to survive it 😳

Imagine if she would have died and then they found out she was pregnant afterwards. Or maybe it was too soon as she would have not long conceived and they might never have known 🤔

It would have been better for both Helen and Sam that way though!

PrincessScarlett · 02/04/2026 22:47

Let that be the lesson of affluent neglect. Wealthy parents ignore your kids at your peril!!

I physically gasped when Cressida stood up at the end and was pregnant. What a cliff hanger.

Exactly the same with me!

This whole drama proved to me that a lot of boarding school students have rich families who have more money than good sense 🤦‍♀️

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/04/2026 22:52

Unusual ending for th teacher series as usually they finish

OP posts:
Meredusoleil · 02/04/2026 22:53

I remember thinking why was she sat with her head on the table all sprawled out like that. Then it became clear. She was hiding her bump until the end, the manipulative little minx 😳

LBFseBrom · 02/04/2026 23:49

I was surprised Cressida was pregnant.

It had some good bits, I said earlier I was irritated by the constant 'theys' and 'thems' when talking about one person, and everyone seemed to buy into the zeitgist with that, even the police, which I do not think is realistic.

The acting was fine but it turned into typical Ch5 drama so I won't be rewatching.

Dontpretenditssuchamystery · 02/04/2026 23:54

Pauline behind the curtain will forever remain the best bit of all the series 🤣🤣🤣

It kept me watching silly though it was. I'm maybe a prude but I thought the bare bummed teen post sex scenes a bit unnecessary as were the self harming close ups Shock.

Thought the end reveal was quite good. Wiped the smile off Helen's 'I've fucked UP sorryyyy face' didn't it, realising they'd never be free of crazy Cressida!

I agree about the extra nudity. Also, I don't get how Cressida's self harm scars weren't showing from under those tiny shorts she was wearing!

Meredusoleil · 03/04/2026 15:02

The actor who played Sam likes to take on traumatised young boy roles like Billy in Waterloo Road!

daffodilandtulip · 03/04/2026 16:42

I normally enjoy and accept a bit of channel 5 nonsense but this was just over the top nonsense. None of it would have escalated like this.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 04/04/2026 20:32

What a load of old shite. Even by C5 standards.
