Previously led by the likes of Sheridan Smith and Kara Tointon (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-teacher-season-2-air-date-newsupdate/), it looks as though 5's The Teacher (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-teacher-season-2-ending-explained-newsupdate/) is not only returning for a third season but will also feature a brand new lead.

Known for her roles in Doctor Foster, COBRA and The Crown (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-crown-season-7-explained/), it has now been confirmed that Victoria Hamilton will be taking up the helm of The Teacher season 3 as respected drama teacher Helen.

According to her character synopsis, Helen is "struggling to keep up with modern social expectations in a reputable private school".

It continues: "Recently promoted to Head of Drama, Helen finds herself being challenged by outspoken pupil Cressida when she stumbles over student Dee's correct pronouns and insists that her class study Shakespeare as opposed to more modern progressive works.

A sinister grudge match quickly develops between teacher and pupil and, when Dee commits suicide following an argument with Helen, Cressida resorts to blackmail to make Helen pay for her 'outdated' views.

"As the war intensifies and her world comes crashing down around her, Helen must fight to hold on to both her family and her career before she loses everything."

For those familiar with Hamilton's most recent role in ITV's Unforgotten (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/unforgotten-cast-itv/), the character of Helen is not too dissimilar to the role she played as history lecturer and faculty head Juliet Cooper.

While there is, of course, no link to the two roles, Hamilton's role in Unforgotten saw her character similarly get into trouble with the student body after using derogatory language and was suspended from her role at a central London university.

The original series of The Teacher saw Sheridan Smith's protagonist teacher accused of sleeping with one of her students after a night out, with the second season focusing on Kara Tointon's Dani Osborne embroiled in a murder conspiracy which didn't only threaten her job as an art teacher, but also her marriage.

As of now, further casting is set to be announced, but something tells us that Hamilton will slot in nicely to the thriller, which is sure to pack in the twists and turns.

Many will likely recognise Hamilton for her role as neighbour Anna Baker in Doctor Foster, a role she reprised in BBC series Life which aired in 2020.

She has also more recently starred in the likes of Deep State and COBRA, having also had roles in Lark Rise to Candleford, The Time of Your Life and Babyfather.

I'm thinking Mr Blake has groomed several kids. Leo for drug dealing. Perhaps Cressida is one of them. She's a classic case. Ignored by her parents. Mr Blake could be the one wanting to destroy Helen as she got the head of drama job over him.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/03/2026 21:57

Yep. Revenge big time

tho would C have played the video regardless of being threatened

She played the video when she saw that Helen was going to get loads of praise by reading Leo's speech. Whoever is trying to destroy Helen would not want Helen to look good so Cressida was forced to play the video.

Oh God I can see it now. In the final episode Helen rescues Cressida from his evil clutches, hugs her in the rain in some muddy field and is reinstated. Final scene Cressida plays Titania brilliantly in the end of year show, having woken from the dream of thinking Mr Blake was the good guy.

Meredusoleil · 31/03/2026 22:05

The bullying of Helen's son Sam is off the scale nasty. What happened at his last school? Who is Jackson? Why are they calling him a nonce and a pikey?

I hate how the Head kept telling Helen to sort things and fix it herself. No wonder she tells the girls noone will fight their corner when her own boss won't stand up for her. He should be having her back and dealing with this, not her.

I think Cressida is an absolute spoilt brat, but Helen is also not in the right frame of mind to be teaching in a private boarding school like that one!

Need to add a curtain to that final scene as well 🤣

I get that

but the fact it was a slide show then the video

so she planned or before teacher got up

Also when Cressida overhead Helen and Sam talking about inviting Leo to dinner in the hope it might make him talk, I thought Cressida was going to use that to cause more grief for Helen. But I'm now thinking she's reported that to Mr Blake as he has been harassing Leo and said on more than one occasion that he had better not said anything.

I thought she was in charge of music so presumably could access the slideshow from her phone. I don't think she intended to use the video until she saw how great Helen would look in front of everyone.

blanketsnuggler · 31/03/2026 22:49

Anyone else think Cressida looks older than a school pupil? What age is she supposed to be?

Meredusoleil · 31/03/2026 22:50

They are supposed to be in Year 12, so 16/17 years old!

PrincessScarlett · 31/03/2026 22:58

Cressida definitely looks older than 17. But then again a lot of 16/17 year old girls look older than they are 🤷🏻‍♀️

LBFseBrom · 31/03/2026 23:12

Judging from posts on this thread, I think I must. re-watch, I wasn't really concentrating.

I like Victoria Hamilton very much. It was odd to see 'Gangster' Panesar from EE as head teacher and Paul, Billy's late husband in Corrie, who died of MND, as a fellow teacher.

Gloriia · 01/04/2026 07:17

This is so bad but I'll have to watch it now to see what the Leo and dodgy teacher secret is about but honestly, why did herself in deeper by nicking exam papers, why leave her ds at home with a pupil which is not allowed to go and meet another pupil for a drink in a public place!

Why on earth did her weird ex approach Cressida whom we know she always has her phone set to film?

It is so very clunky and silly but the cast are good. Is the other female teacher the baddie from LOD?

BreakfastOfWaffles · 01/04/2026 08:02

Yes, all the deviations from protocol are really piling up aren't they? It's getting somewhat OTT.

Oh yes you're right. Lisa McQueen from LOD! I recognised her face but couldn't place her.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/04/2026 10:20

@blanketsnuggler yes I said the same Monday evening a few mins into it

@PrincessScarlett ah possibly. Seemed very convienant timing

I couldn't watch ep 1 as My5 has changed to 5 and impossible to access.

Watched last night's on tv but couldn't find a recap for ep 1 . Is it just that Helen's bad teaching has caused a girl's suicide and that she's being blackmailed by another pupil who has the bullying on video ?

purpleme12 · 01/04/2026 12:04

I mean I'm watching it cos it's just a bit of entertainment but I have to say Cressida and Helen are BOTH really unlikeable and Cressida is really manipulative. It's dulling the enjoyment a bit. Series 1 and 2 were much better.

I can’t seem to find recaps at all. Which is annoying

have them for s1&2

Yes on the face of it Helen is getting the blame as she's a shit teacher that refuses to get on board with trans students and their pronouns and she shouted at a trans students who then killed herself.

However, as we've seen with series 1 and 2 there is always a much more sinister reality than the initial premises and the teachers from series 1 and 2 were deliberately targeted (Sheridan Smith) and used as a scapegoat for something more sinister (Kara Tointon).

butterpuffed · 01/04/2026 14:28

That's helpful , thanks .

Meredusoleil · 01/04/2026 14:36

I think I really do hate this Cressida character. She is seriously pissing me off!

Meredusoleil · 01/04/2026 14:38

Her teeth and mouth/face shape and voice are all contributing to her being the biggest b***h ever imho.
