New six part drama on BBC One with episodes one and two on Monday and Tuesday and following weeks3&4 and 5&6

Starring Siobhán Cullen and Paapa Essiedu, Babies is a gripping, tender and urgent love story that explores the resilience of a couple navigating the heartbreak of pregnancy loss.

Starring Siobhán Cullen (Bodkin) and Paapa Essiedu (Black Mirror), Babies is a gripping, tender and urgent love story that explores the resilience of a couple navigating the heartbreak of pregnancy loss.

The series follows Lisa (Cullen) and Stephen (Essiedu), a couple in their 30s whose hope is tested as they endure multiple miscarriages.

While confronting unimaginable grief, their bond shines through with humour, warmth and unwavering love.

The series also stars Charlotte Riley and Jack Bannon as Amanda and Dave, a new couple navigating their own challenges and testing their compatibility.

Their complex relationship, set against Lisa and Stephen’s ongoing pregnancy journey, begins to expose cracks in Stephen and Dave’s long-standing friendship.

Golaszewski says: “Paapa, Siobhán, Jack and Charlotte are all incredible actors.

Their warmth, detail and deep humanity are essential to telling this crucial story that’s never told.”
Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, says: “Babies has everything we love about Golaszewski’s work – a tender, authentic, emotional and human look at couples navigating a time in their lives that is rarely covered on television.

It’s no surprise that this very special series has attracted such an outstanding cast, and it’s been an honour to see them bring Stefan’s scripts to life.”

He also wrote him and her (watching that now) mum (loved it) and marriage (sure I’ve seen but downloaded it)

I’d give up being single for a husband like Paapa 😫

I still think the other woman is just using him to get pregnant. Is the fiancé actually ill / dead / ex or just can’t make a baby?

Littlemisscapable · 31/03/2026 22:42

I dunno..it gets great reviews but im not loving it..its predictable and slow. Feels a bit forced. I must be missing something.....

Unnomdeplume · 31/03/2026 23:52

Dave makes my skin crawl.

Otherwise it's quite realistic

the80sweregreat · 01/04/2026 03:45

Dave is hard to like isn’t he.

VioletandMauve · 01/04/2026 07:06

I feel like I’m watching 2 different programmes.

One programme with the main characters which is so heartbreaking and true to life and the other with the unbelievable relationship with the awful Dave and his awful girlfriend.

It’s just real life. Real life is slow. We’re used to these mad dramas that actually don’t depict real life.

the80sweregreat · 01/04/2026 08:20

It’s Stefan Golaszewski though, he likes to have a few different stories going on around the main one with his dramas. They are kind of interwoven like a soap drama can be. Dave is an awful character though. Both him and Amanda are strange, he always likes to have a spiky woman character you don’t like much.
Ive come across a few Amanda’s before!

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/04/2026 08:27

Harry is dead. She was going to Marry him. And have 4 kids

I think it was very recent and she isn’t ready for a relationship bless her

Amanda was much happier with Harry. It is sad , but using Dave is equally bad too.

KylieKangaroo · 01/04/2026 09:23

That doctor was so awful to them. I hope that is not true to life 😔

That doctor was so awful to them. I hope that is not true to life 😔

The 3mc is normal and no help till then

which is very sad but so many do have mc

itmay be something as simple as Asprin and Intralipids - blood clotting and need to stop his sperm /her body rejecting baby

I can imagine that Doctors are generally a bit blaze and not that sympathetic really :(
I bet it’s true to life for many women , sadly.

Thesofathatwas · 01/04/2026 16:34

My GP ( two different male ones) were unbelievably kind and sympathetic. They were warm and listened to me.
They were the only HCPs that were.
So glad to say that it wasn’t the norm in my experience.

Watching this is bringing back so so many buried memories. It’s a very difficult watch.

The other couple are horrible, just awful.

Pettifogg · 01/04/2026 18:00

I am also finding it taking me right back. Everything Lisa is going through is exactly how it was. I too had three miscarriages, then some investigations, got put on aspirin and prescription strength folic acid, and now I have my precious child. But for a while back then, I don't really know how we got through it. I remember very clearly one night there had been a power cut and we just sat on the floor, in the dark, and cried.

With regard to the other characters in the programme, I hope it might make people think that you just never know what other people are going through. Things could be much tougher than you think.

Jennifer89 · 01/04/2026 20:48

I don't really get the point of this show focusing so much on Dave and Amanda. Amanda with Harry seemed likeable but with Dave the lights aren't on. Dave is strange and not really sure why Stephen and him are friends.

Jennifer89 · 01/04/2026 21:13

The judgey mums about Nicola having a baby after 6 years. So what? Not everyone wants 2 under 2

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/04/2026 18:19

E3 is on tonight 9pm

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/04/2026 22:39

Oh this was a tough to watch

the way Amanda just blurted out she was preg. Did she not know of the 3 losses ?

why is Dave telling him she asked him to go

he’s going to be dumped tomorrow /e4 I assume

and Dave seems to keen to go. What about his son ?

some couples can’t seem to carry girls - it’s happened to 2 of my friends that they only have boys and the mc/stillborns they have had all have been girls

yet the tests came back (like in tonight’s) that nothing was wrong

I have come to this late. I have watched 4 episodes and I think it is extremely clever.
I like how the men in particular spend a lot of time together are supposed to be best friends yet they say absolutely nothing serious or personal to each other. Everything has to be banter and light when underneath they are crying.
It's heartbreaking but so good and true to life for some people.

deeahgwitch · 07/04/2026 10:00

I watched Episode 1 but for some reason Episode 2 didn’t record and I don’t have access to the BBC iPlayer.
Could a kind poster on this thread give me a quick summary of what happened in Episode 2 so I can watch Episode 3 which did record.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you once again @Blondeshavemorefun 💐

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/04/2026 18:25

Pleasure

I do wonder why Dave and Stephen are friends and how they met - was it school as they don’t seem friendly

BlueEyedBogWitch · 07/04/2026 21:26

Dave is possibly the most irritating character I’ve ever seen on a TV programme.

the80sweregreat · 07/04/2026 21:27

Dave is just horrible isn’t he :(
The writer does love a toxic character.
