I think he had to be quite blunt. Otherwise she wouldn't get it, as she didn't want to get it. Horrible all round, but he was put in a very bad position, and did the right thing, albeit clumsily. I think he was trying not to be cruel in the long term.

Probably, and I do agree with those who have been saying she didn't 'stage' it right, but for her to react that strongly I also wonder whether he had been giving her false hope. I mean, buying a fish together? I get the impression of two people who are somewhat socially awkward getting their wires crossed generally. I do think Rachel doesn't seem secure enough in her mental health to be able to handle something like MAFS, and it isn't in her best interests that she was allowed to appear.

I’m not sure that Steven is gay, although the bus stop story was odd, I think he’s very immature and confused.
He probably shied away from proper dating, in his early formative years and tinkered around on boats, with old boys sympathetically laughing at his humour.
Now he’s totally out of his depth and someone like Rachel is far too much for him (the licking of her lips when she was blindfolded, begging for a kiss 😔)
