I think this woman needs her to realise her star has fallen like a lot of minor celebs. She has had a good run and everything has did was tired. New cookery blood should be allowed a chance.

I thinks it's undignified to start accusing her erstwhile employers of racism.

Nadiya Hussain launches another blistering attack on the BBC

Nadiya Hussain has launched another blistering attack on the BBC after previously claiming she'd been axed due to racism in the 'broken' TV industry.

As mentioned upthread Jamie Oliver owns his own production company so can produce his own programmes. He also has a global audience via his strong branding and ownership of 30+ international restaurants. He has successfully pivoted away from being just a TV chef and into various charity and awareness campaigns that also alow for varied and marketable TV shows. Marcus Waring trained under Gordon Ramsey and worked in various Michelin starred restaurants before gaining his own two stars and opening three restaurants. You would think he is pretty qualified to be a judge on masterchef? Tom Kerridge has won a couple of Michelin stars as well so also qualified to be on masterchef. He also lost a ton of weight which he was able to monetise into a TV show and book deal and people like his high end 'pub food' menus. Nadiya seems to stayed in a narrow lane that was always at risk of being superseded by the latest new thing.

I really enjoy Rick Stein’s programmes. Jamie Oliver’s 30 minute meals were the only recipes I have ever seen my husband use. I loved Hugh FW’s, The River Cottage Year. I like his recipes too. So, horses for courses, I suppose.

She quit as kept catching bugs off the kids apparently.

Agreed, all of these people are chefs first, who happen to also sometimes make TV shows/podcasts/write cookery books and that’s how most ‘tv chefs’ operate, working in the media is actually a sideline to their main career/businesses.

Nadia speaks up against the genocide in Gaza by the Israelis so the bbc had to silence her because you are not allowed to speak uo against genocidal apartheid Israel.
She's very personable in real life. Lovely warm character to meet.

Yes. That’s when it all started to go wrong for her.

Sounds a bit weak to say the least.

And don’t forget the rest - the bugs she was picking up played havoc with long term health conditions she has. I think she’s kept what they are private but they are auto-immune conditions that leave her bedridden at times.

eta - this was explained in the same article where she spoke of her reasons for resigning.

She can speak up as much as she likes but like Gary Lineker she cannot expect to take a fat salary from an employer with an absolute duty to remain impartial when that salary is paid by a mandatory fee on people who won't all agree with her and don't even watch the BBC.

She wasn't silenced by anybody, she made a choice.

Watch her interview to understand the racism she faced at the bbc also.

It’s a shame she doesn’t name and shame the brands who dropped her after publishing her book alongside the complaints at the BBC, they deserve to be known too, surely?

It’s also a shame she obviously doesn’t have good PR advice, I totally understand the statement saying ‘I’m pursuing other opportunities’ felt disingenuous to her, but if she’d gone with it and seen the bigger picture she’d have been able to approach other broadcasters with concepts for other TV shows off the back of it.

likelysuspect · 11/03/2026 17:57

Just coming back to the Rick Stein series, Im just starting it now and I could swear I have seen this, Ive seen him talking about his dad dying and buying pies and eating them with sauce?

Its pitched as a new series though?

Why take the job then? Obviously working in a school is going to result in catching lots of bugs.

Because its something she always wanted to do so she wanted to try?

ExBert80 · 11/03/2026 21:57

Nadiya seemed really humble at the start, amazed to have won Bake Off. But she didn’t stay particularly humble for long. That isn’t a crime, just as her confidence grew it came with a bit of an attitude. However she claims to have been let go by the BBC because she is a Muslim, but her religion was what gave her the opportunity in the first place. The media at that time wanted the plaudits for bringing forth a Muslim baker. She was no better than others who have won but who have never been given the opportunities she had after the show, she was favoured precisely because she was someone from an unusual background for that genre of tv. Her cake she made for the Queen was an embarrassment. She was overpromoted.

Tick box tv was a thing then, and still is now. Look at shows like Pottery Throw Down or Sewing Bee - it isn’t about the best sewers as contestants, it’s who is the best older lady sewer, the best stay at home dad sewer, the best drag artist sewer. Pottery TD used to have a pottery transwomen as the technician, they were not British, I think from the Netherlands, and I am sure they could have found someone from Britain, but it seemed like they wanted a tick box person, in this case a transwomen.

Nadiya had a good run. She has a couple of million in the bank, noteriety. She could take the opportunity to do something for herself, create content that she has total control of. The BBC letting her go wasn’t racist, just as SCD letting Karen Hauer go on SCD isn’t ageist (which is also getting a lot of traction) but making room for new talent. Loads of people get moved on from jobs. If she wants to change things she should take control and do her own thing. Can’t feel too sorry for her, her season in the sun has gone, but her millions in the bank should give her a warm fuzzy feeling.

CousinBette · 11/03/2026 22:37

@ExBert80 you know ‘notoriety’ means fame for a bad reason? Like Jeffrey Epstein or the Yorkshire Ripper?

ExBert80 · 12/03/2026 05:56

@CousinBetteNo I didn’t know that notoriety meant fame for a bad reason! I thought it just meant fame. I meant she had set herself up for life with money and fame which she could use to do her own thing.

Not everyone gets hit by all the bugs! Imagine if they did and all new staff had to have loads of time off 🤣

Yes but she knew that she was likely to due to her health problems so due to her entitlement she messed other people around to give it a go.

saveforthat · 12/03/2026 10:16

She has children, they probably got a lot of bugs when they were younger.

What do you mean by frugal?

I saw her as one of the lsat bastions of indulgence, which I enjoy but cant enjoy anymore unfortunately

I mean can you imagine the galloping gourmet still being around these days.

I think I said frugal because I vaguely remember a recipe of hers transforming baked beans, washing the sauce off but keeping it and it reminded of that tin can person.
Her sweet recipes were always indulgent.

Im pretty sure that is Jack Monroe. Awful woman. Not a cook or chef

Chiaseedling · 12/03/2026 11:10

I'I agree Nadiya had a good run of 10 years post-bake off. I'm not sure if any contestant has such a lucrative career after winning. Most fade in to obscurity. I liked her on Bake Off and was glad she won, but her dishes seem to be very high calorie/not particularly healthy so maybe that's why? Jamie Oliver focuses on the zeitgeist very well, even though he is a bit of a prat, plus he's a chef not an amateur baker.
I doubt it's anything to do with her being a woman - look at Nigella, Delia, Mary Berry et al. Could be her muslim background, but maybe not. It's her interpretation of it. There are many BAME presenters and newsreaders on the BBC so I am not sure of that tbh.
I did read she had some health issues, as she'd gone to work as a TA in a school and couldn't equate that with her fibromylagia I think it was, so she did go and get a regular job!
