A fresh faced John Carter has just arrived for his first shift and I’m about to lose about 200 hours to watching a 30 year old tv show.

Watched the first episode in my roommates room on her tv, second year of uni. Seen it several times since. Tried a few years ago but hated it on E4 because of the adverts and it kept glitching. Then my tablet got too old to run E4 so had to take a break until I could finish it.
i remember so much of the dialogue still.

I used to love ER - reminds me of sitting in my first flat I bought on a week day night watching it on Channel 4 at 9pm!

Loved Dr Greene - was quite surprised that early 30’s me could fancy a bald bloke with glasses when I had spent my 20’s lusting after floppy haired posh boys!

LethargeMarg · 22/02/2026 17:57

This was my favourite programme in the 90s and I rewarched when on maternity leave in the 00s when it was on c4. Have had it on in the background the last week until the ‘loves labour lost’ episode ….forgot how harrowing this episode is and am now totally gripped and watching 2 or 3 episodes a day. I love the early ones- Susan, Benton and carter, jeanie - does make me laugh how friends and family just casually come and hang out with the staff in the ER though !

I’ve watched this multiple times. Love it so much. Loved Mark Green and the Benton/Carter relationship. Even had a fondness for Rocket Romano in the end 🫣🤣
I was a newly qualified nurse when this first came out; sadly none of our Drs looked like George Clooney 🤣🥰

Might have to watch it again for old times’ sake….

Tootyfilou · 22/02/2026 18:12

I named my dog Noah after Noah Wyle. I was totally in lust with George Clooney, but the character I liked best was Carter. " You set the tone now John, you set the tone" 😰

Rocket Romano is one of my favourite characters.

FrothyCothy · 22/02/2026 18:41

Romano is laugh-out-loud awful in some of the things he says!

I don’t think Kovac has had much mention yet - he was very flawed but very, very hot 😆

HopefullyOneRandomDay · 22/02/2026 18:48

I never thought I would say this, but I quite fancy Romano and definitely would

harryhole · 22/02/2026 18:49

Is it as good as Greys Anatomy?

FrothyCothy · 22/02/2026 18:50

Jesus - I can’t think of anyone who would be a more selfish lover 🤣

SemmaLina · 22/02/2026 18:55

Loved ER
Only watched it once ( when it first came out )
I remember my waters breaking all over the bed ,( heavily , heavily pregnant , watching tv in bed,) went on to have DS ( 31 ) the next day
Will have to wait for me to finish The Good Dr and Bridgerton then will have agood binge watch

UnbeatenMum · 22/02/2026 18:57

Ooh I've just finished New Amsterdam so I might start rewatching ER. I loved Abby's story. Don't think I saw them all the first time round.

I watched Loves Labour Lost Ystd, really awful 😣 how unlucky was that woman though, pre-eclampsia, shoulder dystopia and uterine rupture 😱

It was horrific. I think the idea was to have a scenario where everything that potentially can go wrong does go wrong. Such a powerful episode.

I got to this one last night, I think I skipped it on my last rewatch as I'd just had a baby and couldn't handle it.

It was horrific on the first watch, but I found it worse on the this time as you just notice every mistake that leads to the end result and try not to scream at the TV to 'get that woman up to the labour ward immediately' 😥

The one thing I do enjoy about this is episode is a young Bradley Whitford.

What I don’t get it why ob gyn got no blame? Their attitude was basically we have no space you deal with it.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 25/02/2026 18:07

It reminds me of my own terrible birth and is reminder that giving birth is dangerous.

I thought Dr Greene did well when he talked about it to his peers as a case study afterwards and when asked what he would have done differently in hindsight said ‘I’d have wheeled her up to obs and gynie myself’.

I’ve just got to the end of series 1 😁

RancidRuby · 07/03/2026 20:43

I’m really enjoying watching this again, for the third time! I’m onto season 2 now and I’m finding Doug Ross infuriating, he’s totally selfish and hypocritical. Younger me definitely didn’t view him in that way. What I’m enjoying the most is watching the relationship between Benton and Carter evolve, and I’ve read that the actors are still really good friends which is lovely.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 07/03/2026 22:37

Im onto season 3 already 🙈 the amount of stigma and fear around HIV and AIDs is really shocking, even lovely Mark behaves terribly when he finds out about Jeanie. I’m glad things have moved on a bit from then.
