Psychological thriller The Stolen Girl had Disney+ (https://www.disneyplus.com/en-gb) users captivated in 2025, and now, thanks to Disney+'s partnership with ITV, the popular drama is arriving on ITV next Wed

Starring Denise Gough and Jim Sturgess as Mrs and Mr Blix, the couple live out every parent's worst nightmare when their nine-year-old daughter is kidnapped after a sleepover, leading to some secrets from the past to come to light.

What is The Stolen Girl about?
The Stolen Girl is a physiological thriller adapted for TV from Alex Dahl's 2020 novel Playdate.

The official synopsis says: 'Elisa Blix, an air hostess on private jets and busy mum of two, allows her nine-year-old daughter, Lucia, to go on a playdate with her new best friend Josephine.

Elisa briefly meets with Josephine’s warm and friendly mother, Rebecca, and the playdate evolves into a sleepover.

But when Elisa and her husband Fred arrive to collect Lucia the next day, their worst fears are realised.

'The house is an empty luxury rental and Lucia has vanished, along with Rebecca and Josephine.

The police say everything Rebecca told Elisa may have been lies.

As events escalate into an international manhunt for Lucia, pursued doggedly by Selma, an ambitious and determined investigative journalist following the story, long-buried secrets come to light that may hold the key to Lucia’s seemingly motiveless abduction.'

The Stolen Girl is made up of a strong cast, including The Capture's (http://hellorayo.co.uk/greatest-hits-radio-70s//entertainment/television/the-capture/) Holliday Grainger, Who Is Erin Carter? (http://hellorayo.co.uk/greatest-hits-radio-70s//entertainment/television/who-is-erin-carter/) actress Denise Gough, and One Day's (http://hellorayo.co.uk/greatest-hits-radio-70s//entertainment/television/one-day/) Ambika Mod.

This sounds similar to what I’ve seen recently called all her fault

child goes missing after a play date

I hope it’s not the same storyline/plot as though all her fault was good - also rather far fetched the ending of why and how and who 😂😂

Of course Virgin Media 1 haven’t got it for us in Ireland.
We used to be able to get most ITV programmes via Ulster television (UTV) but no longer. 🙄

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2026 13:54

This starts tonight, a usual clashing with Channel 4 so I will watch one earlier if I can

So she lets her daughter go to a woman’s house she had never ever met before

no one on Mumsnet would do that 😂

So true! This is going to send the mumsnetters into an absolute crazed panic about sleepovers!

Move22 · 25/02/2026 21:31

And she tried to take a photo of the girls playing and hostess mummy disallowed her to do so! Even though they’d already agreed to sleep over.

PrincessScarlett · 25/02/2026 21:32

Rebecca made a point of mentioning Fred's job so perhaps it is some kind of payback for Fred going after organised crime?

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2026 21:35

Yes I wondered that. He’s a lawyer

This seems really familiar, but I've never watched DisneyPlus so no idea where I could have seen it.

PrincessScarlett · 25/02/2026 22:33

Fred was an absolute shit to Elisa at the end BUT who the hell does leave their child with someone they've never met before?! He does unfortunately have a point.

Clawdy · 26/02/2026 08:26

I read the book but can't remember the end, luckily! Quite enjoying it so far.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2026 09:35

Yes enjoying and glad it’s not the same as - it’s her fault - tho that was good

but yes as I said who on earth lets a total stranger take your child back to theirs - in some way she was Lucky she got the address off her

mn def up in arms !! 😂

let along a sleepover the first night
but guessing that the plot so kidnapper had another 17/18hrs to vanish

Fred was an arse esp as been unfaithful

Ah, that could be it. I definitely recognised the scene where the mums first met outside the school (with the girls in the background playing that clapping game that no kids ever stand and play in rl!).
