Nothing on this programme from any Conservative talking head - I recall Ian Duncan Smith was leader of the opposition and wholly irrelevant at the time, allowing Blair to do his own thing without resistance. In a way, you had two Tory parties, as Labour had won being Tory-lite, or not wishing to be outflanked by them on defence, so the usual checks and balances weren't there.

They could have asked Blair, okay, on the basis you think it was the right idea at the time, what would you have done differently? Because there was no post-war planning at all. It was a shambles. You could argue the D-Day landings in 44 would have been wrong had they failed, it's not just whether it's the right thing to do, you have to do it well.

Blair lost the dressing room with Iraq, once you stake your reputation on there being WMDs and then there aren't any, you're a goner - although he got elected again because the Tories were just rubbish then.
