there Was a question directed to bush - by a man who looks like a male jo brand - it doesn’t matter though

That was John Sargent, a BBC journalist. I was thinking 'I wonder what the Americans are thinking about this scruffy man with such a beautiful voice?'.

Arlanymor · 18/02/2026 23:00

FleurDeFleur · 18/02/2026 22:55

He certainly was. As Bill Clinton said, "he could charm the owls out of the trees".

And today the owls would be saying: "Don't bring us into this thanks!"

And I'm one of those lunatics that books the day off work after a GE and stays up to see the results. It's just so incredibly dispiriting now. I'm in Wales and we have Senedd elections coming up... thank god it's a Thursday as I don't work Fridays these days, so I can take it in my stride... or emigrate if necessary.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 18/02/2026 23:00

This woman would’ve swayed me. Wow - upthread it was mentioned that he’s hard

And this was before anyone had seen him dance to 'Firestarter'.

Thank you - I can never remember his name, just his face

The bar is so low with the advent of strong man leaders. We all took the proverbial out of Baby Bush - but he certainly didnt embarass his country on an international stage as Trump has.

Me too! I turned 18 in February 1997... and ever since! Rightly or wrongly!

SwedishEdith · 18/02/2026 23:03

There's a video that pops up on Instagram of Bush's handover of the presidency to Obama. He was so gracious. All of that has been trashed atm with that utterly classless adminstration there now. I suspect Bush was probably quite amusing company.

Sad but true eh? And the downfall of many a 'good' politician on the surface. I read his wife's book and seem to recall he had about 6 or 7 affairs. Lord knows how he found the time frankly!!

Sorry to go OT, but 6 or 7 women chose to sleep with the late Robin Cook?!

what a strange place the world is sometimes!

Yes, he came across as quite gracious. He was certainly sharp and articulate. How things have changed.

I mean - right?!

I think I am remembering correctly when they were mooting Parliament TV and wasn't it him who said something along the lines of: In which case my career will be over because who wants to watch a ginger garden gnome?

Was something along those lines anyway!

I struggle to understand - very unthreatening and giving?! Ugh, hate I even typed those words. I will eat some soap shortly!

Yes, I also book the day off after an election! What surprises me is that more people don't stay up to watch 😄

He got on really well with the late Queen because he was into horse racing and was a tipster.

It's the shape of the next four years - depressing or otherwise! I actually don't think I could sleep even if I tried without knowing the likely outcome.

That said, in bed by 10pm at New Year!
