I haven't read it but can still remember all the gory details from the papers when her book came out 😨.

What I can never understand is that she's still proud of it. I mean, adultery aside you had sex with a human equivalent of a glove puppet, Edwina. Where's the glory it?!

News of these scandals went in the press because it was pre-Leveson inquiry. In those days the red top tabloids did regular kiss and tells on hapless members of the public - a way of getting soft porn in the papers, on celebrities like rock stars, and on any politician falling out of favour.

(You didn't get gay kiss and tells much - they didn't want to use gay sex to turn on their presumably straight readers, but I suppose stars could be outed, being gay was a source of perceived shame back then.)

That stuff still goes on but they have to have another factor to hang it on - for instance, breaking Covid regulations in the process (see Matt Hancock and one of the Covid boffins). Politicians still shag around but adultery gets a free pass.

Leveson 2 didn't get the go ahead presumably because it would have revealed how corrupt things are, how the police give tip-offs to the press for money and so on.
