Period drama recommendations please!

Any suggestions for good period dramas? I'm just getting into the genre, recent watches I have loved are Downton Abbey, Home Fires and have nearly finished Cranford.

I have Lark Rise to Candleford on dvd, just wondering if it is a better spring/summer type watch?

I have Netflix, Now TV, Prime and usual UK terrestrial channels apps.

The Forsyte Saga (2002/3 - not the recent version) is on Netflix and is excellent.

My absolute favourite is North And South staring a young Richard Armitage. It’s brilliant and I watch it at least twice a year.

It was a BBC production but I think it is currently available on U.

The BBC has made loads and loads. We enjoyed all of these:

1995 Pride and Prejudice, Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth
Persuasion (later 1990s) - Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds
Our Mutual Friend - Keeley Hawes, Steven Mackintosh etc - cracking cast
Martin Chuzzlewit - Paul Schofield, Tom Wilkinson
The Barchester Chronicles, 1982 - another fabulous cast (well, they all do). Alan Rickman absolutely magnificent in one of his first big roles.

There's also a really excellent feature film version of Little Dorrit, split into two parts. 1987, stars Derek Jacobi and Alec Guinness.

Middlemarch - the version with Robert Hardy, Rufus Sewell. Daniel Deronda. Wuthering Heights with Kay Adshead ( the best adaptation I've seen - covers the whole book, not just the first half). All BBC serials and were on iPlayer recently

All4 has the serpent queen, white queen, white princess and the spanish princess - I'm partway through the serpent queen but haven't seen the others. It might still have The Tudors too.

A few more have come to mind. The Count of Monte Cristo, the one starring Gerard Depardieu. The Story of Adele H which is about the daughter of Victor Hugo starring Isabelle Adjani and is very atmospheric.
