Looking for a series to download new or old for a long journey.
Recently finished the runaway and have done most of Harlan cobens series
Enjoying the Night Manager
Loved slow horses, The Diplomat, The night agent and detective things like Trigger point, happy valley, Annika etc and first series of Red Eye and first series of Hijack but second series not appealing on watching the first bit!
Any ideas ?
Thanks !

Lucfier on Netflix is the devil meets CSI. Quite easy going but likeable characters.

Smallville is new on Netflix and I'm loving it at the moment - nice dose of 2000s nostalgia.

Not sure if it would be your style but Everwood has also recently been added to Netflix and is brilliant, very heart warming!

ThebigDees · 27/01/2026 14:02

Second series of red eye was really good, I recommend his and hers ( Netflix) the girlfriend ( prime), girl taken ( paramount) and run away ( Netflix)

TheGreyOrca · 27/01/2026 14:02

Definitely recommend Homeland if you haven't seen it already

I didn't love pluribus, what about His and Hers on Netflix? Gripping and a good twist

Finmory · 27/01/2026 14:18

Some good thriller type series I’ve watched recently:
Mare of Easttown
All Her Fault
The Beast in Me
Black Doves
The Jackal
The Hunting Wives (although this is far more soapy and fun than the others)

I was going to suggest Everwood . It’s charts the story of a family following a loss and is very easy and watchable , especially if you don’t want anything too challenging. Just kick back and enjoy .

Starlight1979 · 27/01/2026 14:27

Ooooh and if you can find it, Ripley (with Andrew Scott) was absolutely fantastic.

Sundayagain27 · 27/01/2026 14:27

thanks some great ideas - I loved Black dove and Bad sisters and Mare of East Town, thinking His and Hers is looking good and Everwood If i can download!

The Wire. If you haven't heard of it, it's an iconic Baltimore-set police procedural which gives equal screentime and depth to those on the other side of the investigations, too. It's where Idris Elba made his name. Truly one of the greatest series of all time, and you could do the first 1-2 seasons during a long journey. It helped me through the last weeks of pregnancy during a really cold and snowy winter.

MotherWol · 27/01/2026 14:39

If you like police procedurals, Walter Presents on Channel 4 has some great ones from around the world; we’ve really liked De Dag (The Day), The Team and Codename Annika.

noexcuses26 · 27/01/2026 14:48

Landman on paramount is the best thing I’ve watched in years. Billy bob thornton & rest of cast become like family & im so sad its finished for now.. roll on series 3!

HeadyLamarr · 27/01/2026 14:58

Did you watch Shōgun when it came out? If not, I'd definitely recommend that. It's incredible.

Moveyourbleedingarse · 27/01/2026 18:17

Deutschland 83, 86 & 89 are the best TV series I've ever seen.
Also loving the new Mormon police thing on Disney with Andrew Garfield.

Moveyourbleedingarse · 27/01/2026 18:19

Oh and Yellowstone if you haven't seen it already. I was devastated when we finished it

mamaduckbone · 27/01/2026 18:21

If you like Slow Horses, Down Cemetary Road on Apple TV is by the same writer and also good. What about Dept Q? Loved that!

mamaduckbone · 27/01/2026 18:21

Ozark is pretty old now but really good.

Foggytree · 27/01/2026 18:26

His and Hers- only watched one episode so far but seems like it'll be good.

The Beast in Me

Deadlock or maybe its Deadloch - sort of a comedy detective series, but also a proper detective story to it. Set in Tazmania.

Agree Dept Q v good and Down Cemetery Road
