Loved slow horses, The Diplomat, The night agent and detective things like Trigger point, happy valley, Annika etc and first series of Red Eye and first series of Hijack but second series not appealing on watching the first bit!

Everwood is good, also if you like Virgin River, Sullivans Crossing

BastardtheCat · 27/01/2026 23:27

The Strike series.

I second this list and would add sweet magnolias on Netflix. Not sure where it is available but hart of dixie is also good.

Malice is very good on prime video, it's a psychological thriller & only 6 episodes . Stars Jack Whitehall who I'm not really a fan of as a rule but he's brilliant in this.

Dark winds, crimes on a Navajo /Dine reservation in the ‘70s on Netflix - really good characters

3 seasons and season 4 out soon

I saw this and wondered if it was good, it's also on U/Alibi, it is on my watchlist.

Steal on Prime with Jodie Comer is excellent.

HeadyLamarr · 28/01/2026 07:55

It's Sophie Turner, not Jodie Comer, @gerispringer , but I agree Steal is good.

Just joining in for tips really!

And, as it's been on my mind recently (tlaking to a friend about it), I recommend Ripper Street (if still available). Nineteenth-century London police procedural with Matthew McFadyen, set not long after the Ripper murders, with McFadyen as the police chief still haunted by it in a community still traumatised. It's totally immersive: brilliant costumes, production and set design, script (wonderful use of language), great performances.

I recommend Ponies. It’s nothing to do with horses. A Poni is a “person of no interest” to KGB in 1970s Moscow.

Those of you who like Virgin River, Sullivan’s Crossing & Everwood, have you seen Chesapeake Shores? If not, I think you’ll like it.

I can highly recommend 'Deadloch' - Australian black comedy crime mystery series on Amazon Prime Video. It follows two female detectives investigating a murder in a fictional Tasmanian town with secrets and conflicts. If you enjoyed Slow Horses, similar dark but humourous vibe.

Riot women, same producer as happy valley, really good. And blue lights if you haven’t watched it.

Thehorticuluralhussie · 28/01/2026 16:56

Kin
Peaky Blinders

Mr Mercedes

You haven’t mentioned liking history but just in case you do-

Steal

This.

BareBelliedSneetch · 28/01/2026 17:01

Old school, but did you watch spooks? The night manager is soooooo reminiscent of spooks. I’m not sure if it’s still on iPlayer.

has anyone recommended dept q yet? That was fab.

Pointlesssewing · 28/01/2026 17:07

I’d second Cemetery road, also written by Mick Herron as is Slow Horses. Also Patience on ch 4, a uk version of Astrid in Paris which is even better. (Walter presents and subtitled).
