Lovely bit of free advertising for that knitwear company on the BBC then Hmm it surprises me that that’s been allowed.

So is it the same for 32 year old man Stephen who describes himself in that embarrassingly twee way, "I'm just a wee boy from the Isle of Lewis, this kind of stuff doesn't happen to me," Hmm and his £860 jumpsuit?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c301jg2dlmdo

Really sorry but all this massively puts me off. It’s not the celebrity Traitors. Fine that ordinary people are extremely wealthy millionaires and then come on the show. Also fine that they try to be relatable by lying on the show to each other about needing the money.

But don’t stand around in a bought, loaned, gifted, whatever £860 jumpsuit or £400 jumper and speak directly to the public pretending that you think 40K will allow you to help your family financially and get you a deposit for a flat in London. We’re not stupid.

I really don’t want to watch professional contestants who are just using game shows as a vehicle to get other gigs. It’s supposed to be ordinary people pitting their wits against each other, which is interesting and fun to watch. Stop monetising it. It’s not Made in Chelsea.

Stephen said he would use the money to give back to his family, not that he desperately needed it himself. Maybe it really will make a big difference to his family.
Jade may have a rich dad (NB I'm only going on what I've read on here; not read any press about her) but we don't know if he has or hasn't given her a load of money or bought her a flat.
There's a lot of assumptions being made here.

Rachels crime, not being ditzy, not being emotional , not being bubbly

For me personally, her "crime" was reminding me of people I've worked with, who adopt the "senior adult" role in any situation, so everyone naturally defers to them, and take credit for everyone else's input. Stephen's analytical approach in the turret was impressive (his cybersecurity background helpful here), yet he is often seen as just a jolly little boy who pulls funny faces and wears silly clothes.

Yes and rachel
allowed space for Stephen to lead in the turret - didnt see her taking over there either - it was all compromise and discussion

so never saw her taking credit for anyone else - she was just proud of her own achievements

her reaction to Harriet isn’t in line with someone who thinks their it - she was scared and voiced it straight away - also Amanda came to her as she respected her not because Rachel commandeered it

beigeybeige · 26/01/2026 13:00

No, Stephen said he would help his family and then later added that he would use it to help him get on the London property ladder as well.

Jade said to the others at the dinner that if she won she would use it as a deposit for a flat and that fair enough. That’s game play. We don’t know in reality if she has a flat, doesn’t have a flat, and anyway that’s irrelevant because she didn’t win.

I haven’t criticised Rachel because she has never said the money would change her life and poor her, just that she wanted to spoil her mum and family with a nice holiday. Great.

Rachel and Jade wearing sponsored jumpers I do think is pretty gross though on the BBC. As I say I don’t want it to become Made In Chelsea, TV which is just a springboard to have a platform to promote your career. That’s not good TV to watch. it’s just the broadcast equivalent of people putting boastful statements about themselves on LinkedIn.

I want Traitors to be a fun game to watch. I don’t want everyone to have the same boring strategy that too many had in this series, of just say as little as possible so you aren’t noticed and you get to stay in because youre that boring and unmemorable. Fiona was great, Harriet was great, because they played big plays and took risks.

The sponsored jumpers went over my head.

I just thought Jade liked knitting.

beigeybeige · 26/01/2026 13:23

Same, until I read that BBC article. I’d love to be able to knit that well!

Beachtastic · 26/01/2026 13:28

Liquoriceallsortsmadear · 26/01/2026 12:41

i don’t think she adopted it rather than people put her in it by deferring to her because what she said was reasonable - I never saw her talking over anyone or demanding that they see her view - she was always open to discussion. Very different to those people your thinking of at work

Hmmm, looks like we must agree to disagree 😉 To me, it's definitely a style of behaviour - one that I am probably rather oversensitive to 😃

QueenOfThorns · 26/01/2026 12:42

Faraaz wouldn’t have made it through the final murder if he hadn’t accused Rachel when he did. There was no rationale for killing Roxy, he just forced their hand

I agree completely but he ballsed it up then by changing his vote from R to Jade imo and then Stephen.

Ha! In the end I managed to watch it very late on a VPN on Friday, I knew if I waited until the morning, let alone until I got back somethinf would spoil it for me. Well done you 👏

It’s not advertising though. They didn’t name the brand or draw any attention to it.

WonderfulSmith · 26/01/2026 14:59

It’s hardly sponsored jumpers. They didn’t sit there and say the brand or have it written on them. They were just some cardigans that the wardrobe department happened to have. If it hadn’t been for this thread I wouldn’t have a clue about the company.
Would people be saying the same if they were Primark hoodies?

OK, so maybe Stephen does need money towards a house deposit.
I'm not sure why someone would make up that they wanted their own place to live (Jade was specific about that) and not at all convinced that she just said it for game play Confused

I'm inclined to feel similar. In my long career, I've come across a number of calm and assertive managers & consultants (both male and female) who will give you an appraisal in the morning, say how excellent your work is, tell you what an asset you are to the company and even hint that a promotion is not entirely out of the question... and then close your department & put your name down on the list of redundancies in the afternoon.
She reminded me of people like that.

Product placement is a very effective form of advertising, especially on a show like Traitors!

BlueLimes · 26/01/2026 19:10

Rachel also reminds me very much of someone at work who’s a complete pain.

xsquared · 26/01/2026 19:10

It looks like Jade and Amanda are on better terms in real life.

They're coincidentally connected - Jade's boyfriend's dad was Amanda's work partner In the met back in the 90s.

I have to say as a total fan who enjoyed the hype, these threads, the other series etc etc, I am now getting fed up of the ‘cast’ (hate that) and their inane Instagram posts…Maybe I am showing my age but can nobody just be in a programme and then bugger off?!

In real terms, he’s not BU to be pissed

But also he should never have even made it to the final and he robbed Faraaz of his own please money with his naive vote. How court he think he deserve to win doing absolutely nothing😂

Yes he did come across as something of a “non playable character”, or at least did little of significance that made it to the edit.

But of course he has participated through the entire experience, tasks, dramas, stress much the same as all the others (even if he didn’t have the same amount of stress as people like Jade who were under constant suspicion). So as a viewer it seems like he has done nothing to earn it, but he might not entirely unreasonably not have felt that he did nothing - he just did little we were shown.
