Hullo telly addicts I am very new to the party over here, but has the UK series of Ghosts got any fans ?
I watched the US version (Netflix) and was underwhelmed, tho' enjoyed the premise..then, through the magic of technology, discovered I could watch the Beeb original. I have been laughing out loud ! Love it ! So much funnier.
Been bingeing but aware I am running out of episodes ...and then I will doubtless be "sucked off" as the ghosts say...."moving on! " says Alison 😂
it's refreshing to watch something so well scripted and acted and so much fun (and often quite moving). I think it's going to be my new Schitt's Creek (ie watch on demand). Hope there are fellow Ghosties who agree !

We adore it and watch it over and over. The book is brilliant too, full of new material.

My favourite episode is About Last Night, when they're hungover. The slapstick catalogue of disaster at the very end is perfection!

Throat bass.

I love BBC Ghosts. I'm on about my fourth rewatch of the series. We've been to the house twice, and manage to quote something from the show almost every day.

Love Ghosts (UK - not so fussed about US).

I went to Alex Horne’s charity football match at Chesham United last year. Mat (Thomas) and Kiell (Mike) were on opposing teams. It was very silly and a brilliant day out.

Quite a few times, Mat playfully grabbed Kiell in some way to stop him getting the ball, and Kiell pretended to not see Mat - looking up in the air in a “who was that??” way.

So despite the show ending, they’re still keeping in character a bit 😁

Thats my favourite episode as well, followed by the first Christmas episode, the Thomas Thorn Affair and Redding Weddy.

Love Ghosts and am quite fond of the US version once you get past the first few episodes. The scout leader is my favourite, and the episode with his wife makes me sob.

You can have two pints so long as you wear a seatbelt.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 14/01/2026 13:49

I’ve remembered another favourite episode - when Fanny is having affair with Humphrey’s body.

It’s genius. The moment when Humphrey’s head shudders and he says, wonderingly, “That keeps happening!”

KittyHigham · 14/01/2026 14:10

There are many fans and as you can see from my name, I am one 😄
I have watched every episode several times - apart from the last one. I refuse to accept that would have been their future.
That aside, it is just a perfect sitcom. Characters you really care about even if they're not all entirely likeable! A fantastic balance of clever, absurd comedy and pure human emotions.
The writing is so intelligent and manages to tell a great story each episode, whilst building a complex history involving multiple characters across the 5 series. Every ghost's life story was poignant, beautifully told and made sense of things in the present. So clever.

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 14/01/2026 16:53

What do you wish had happened to Alison and Mike @KittyHigham ?

I was hoping there was going to be a clever way they came into enough money to make a business out of Button House (hotel) and that they would live in a separate property on the estate or maybe close by off the estate so the ghosts couldn't just walk in 😄. That way they'd have privacy but also Alison would see the ghosts regularly. Them being guests at Button House felt sad to me.
Obviously the ghosts would continue to send Alison crazy in my scenario , but I wouldn't have felt sad!

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 14/01/2026 19:09

That would have been perfect!

I didn't want it to end at all. Might check out Yonderland next

Treylime · 15/01/2026 19:34

I thought the ending didn't work because when Alison tried to move house before there were ghosts in all the houses they viewed.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 15/01/2026 21:27

I felt sorry for the ghosts when Alison and Mike left. And then when they eventually die-they'll have no one! I like to think various guests in the hotel could see them too.

Blinkingbother · 15/01/2026 21:58

Ohhhhh - we watched all the Ghosts series as a family, it was brilliant😊. The US version is not so great imo…. Didn’t know there were French and German ones, will check them out! Love that it was written by them all as a comedic troop as it were, they are so very brilliant!

Nincompoo · 15/01/2026 21:59

One of my favourite tv series ever! It is perfections. I enjoyed the US one too tbh m, but I can’t remember much about it now 🤣

There was one house that didn’t have ghosts so I assume they eventually found another,

HoppingPavlova · 16/01/2026 04:37

Have yet to watch the aussie version which is apparently very good

Nope. I’m Australian and can say my hopes were sadly dashed the first episode. I then watched the second episode thinking I’d gone mad as nothing could be that bad and I must have made it up in my head, nope, still bad. Then watched the third as it was by then car crash territory. Couldn’t waste a second more of my life in any further episodes.

I love the UK original. Watched the US version, thought it was nowhere near as good but was able to get through it.

mamabluestar · 17/01/2026 12:13

I'm a big fan of the UK version (not seen any others) after watching them all with my family. I love all of the characters but Robin is my favourite.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/01/2026 08:20

love it

Weatherwax · 11/01/2026 19:34

See if you can get hold of the film Bill by the same.gang, based on Shakespeare's life, and Yonderland too. All by and starring rhe "Ghosts"!

oh that does look good

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/01/2026 08:32

for those who have access Bill is currently on iplayer, for the next 6 months

LadyFannyButton · 18/01/2026 08:37

I LOVE U.K. ghosts, couldn’t get on board with the U.S version, although I gave it a good go and did watch the whole first series and part of the second.
The U.K. version regularly had me in stitches, I’ve watched them all a couple of times. I now might have to make it a third.

I’ve never watched Bill or Yonderland though, so might give them a go first before rewatching ghosts.

There was a poster on here who had the pleasure of bumping in to Jim Howick (Pat) when dog walking and had a chat, tipped us that they had (at that time) confirmed were indeed doing another series, which caused lots of excitement. I was so sad when it ended, wonderful series.

StabbyCat · 18/01/2026 08:39

One of the best things I’ve ever seen. Love it. My favourites are Pat and Mary. My son and I still quote from the show.

ETA the US version is dreadful.

StabbyCat · 18/01/2026 08:41

Yonderland is also worth a look. Marvellously silly at the same time as being very cleverly written.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/01/2026 08:42

It’s fab and something you can watch over and over again. Like friends
