Fellow Travelers is exceptional, Jonathan Bailey is staggeringly good. I found it an excellent distraction for a few days.

Is Fellow Travellers a bit sad though?

Read an article last night that I now can’t find looking at why women, particularly straight middle aged women, love Heated Rivalry. Aside from the handsome male leads and the spicy scenes, it simply reminds us how falling in love feels. Most of us straight middle aged women are settled, happy or unhappy, or looking for love in a limited pool of decent men. We often have kids, jobs, bills. This little TV programme reminds us we were once young and in love and it does it really well. It makes us melancholic a bit.

I realise that doesn’t apply to all viewers but looking at what many women are saying about the show, it certainly resonates.

@Fatrascal27 - that's why I started reading MM 6 years ago. I was fed with with the female characters in romances unless it's a crime/suspense one and the heroine is not too stupid to live.

It's about escaping but without the feeling of being a disappointment because you can't see yourself in the female character as they are becoming just too much, too perfect, too well put together. Or they are too much like you, burden by real life, single mums, starting over after divorce/death/life exploded around you.

In HR I can see the struggle these two have, the problems they face but I can see myself/sympathise without feeling I am coming up short compared to one of the leads.
The fact that it is spicy is second for me, it's done very well though.

There was someone on Threads this morning about since when romance has to have a HEA and most people agreed that a romance does, a love story not necessarirly and Wuthering Height is neither.

And reader she definitely did end up back on AO3…..🤦‍♀️

I'm not going to do it as middle aged woman but if someone wanted to start a fanfic recommendation thread then I'll be there.

I watched it again yesterday all the way through. I’m full of cold and mainly lying on the sofa. I am a bit in love with those characters and the actors tbh. It is no wonder Hudson and Connor are so bonded. The filming must have been so intense. They were naked a lot, acting out really intimate sex, not all of it pretty either. So good.

I laughed (it’s so funny at times) and I cried. Even though I know what’s coming. What. A.Show.

I think the fact that none of the retired players came out speaks volumes about the situation.
